Swear An Oath To “Fortress Whale”! [RD/KP24]

    NeoArkadiaBy NeoArkadiaJanuary 31, 202610 Comments

Now when do we get the cyborg Fortress Whale and Shrine Fortress Whale?

RD/KP24-JP023 サイボーグ・ドルフィン Cyborg Dolphin [Mech Dolphin]
Level 2 WATER Fish Effect Monster
    ATK 500
    DEF 400
【REQUIREMENT】 If there is a face-up Level 7 or lower WATER Fish Ritual Monster on your field.
【EFFECT】 Choose 1 card on your opponent’s field and return it to the hand. You cannot attack with monsters for the rest of the turn, except Fish monsters.

Note: This is White Dolphin remade with mechanical parts, possibly inspired by Mech Bass.

RD/KP24-JP024 サイボーグ・ナイル Cyborg Nile [Mech Misairuzame]
Level 5 WATER Fish Effect Monster
    ATK 1400
    DEF 1600
    【REQUIREMENT】 None
【CONTINUOUS EFFECT】 During the Battle Phase, face-up Fish monsters on your field gain 400 ATK x [The number of monsters on your field]. Your “Fortress Whale” can attack directly.

Note: This is Misairuzame (Nile in Japan) remade with mechanical parts. Likely to go with Mech Dolphin, both possibly inspired by Mech Bass.

    As a wider note:

    • the Japanese name of “Mech Bass” is サイボーグ・バス, which translates to “Cyborg Bass”. These are both Cyborg monsters.
    • One of these monsters is wearing the armor of “Mech Bass”

Therefore with that in mind, both these monsters are being translated as “Mech [X]”

    RD/KP24-JP027 シュライン・リンコス Shrine Rhynchus
Level 4 WATER Fish Effect Monster
    ATK 1000
    DEF 1300
【REQUIREMENT】 During the turn this card was Normal Summoned.
【EFFECT】 Send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard. Then, you can choose 1 Ritual Spell in your Graveyard and Set it to your Spell & Trap Zone. You cannot attack with monsters for the rest of the turn, except Fish monsters.

Note: This card most likely takes its name from its name from the rhynchus in Oxyrhynchus (Greek for Sharp-nosed), a city in Egypt that worshiped the Medjed, a type of Elephant Fish that in Egyptian Mythology ate the genitals of Osiris, preventing his full resurrection, resulting in him becoming the God of the Dead.

RD/KP24-JP041 要塞クジラ Yousai Kujira (Fortress Whale)
Level 7 WATER Fish Ritual Monster
    ATK 2400
    DEF 2200

RD/KP24-JP057 要塞クジラの誓い Yousai Kujira no Chikai (Fortress Whale Oath)
    Ritual Spell Card
    【REQUIREMENT】 None
【EFFECT】 Ritual Summon “Fortress Whale” by sending monsters in your hand and/or on your field to the Graveyard whose combined levels total 7 or more as material. (You cannot use more monsters than necessary as material.)

I’m glad that Shrine Rhynchus can retrieve any Ritual Spell Card, which means you can use Tide-Ride Bluefin with Fortress Whale in the same Deck. That makes Mech Dolphin even better since Tide-Ride Bluefin is a very easy Ritual Monster to bring to the field.

Is anyone else bothered by how much Ritual and Fusion decks have been supported in comparison to Maximum decks? It predates both other mechanics and is the premier new Summoning Type for Rush Duel, and yet it languishes set after set with no support. It’s objectively worse than Fusion/Ritual, but it’s not going to suddenly get better if it keeps getting sidelined. This is a dumb moment to bring this up but at this rate every DM Ritual Monster is going to get an archetype before they even try to do something interesting with Maximum.

Maximums are very clunky. You need 3 specifically named monsters in your hand and ways to access them.

And they actually tried with Maximum – creating Maximum Decks from the start (Sea Serpent and Chemistry), but eventually they evolved into alternate win cons. And alternate pieces that can be treated as the original side pieces in hand. With Chemistry they even had a Fusion of a Maximum.

They even made low Level Maximums like Harpie Lady and Gadgets that could be used outside Maximum Mode.

Maximums were introduced within the first year for a reason. They were the equivalent to a boss monster in a format where 2500 ATK was the ceiling and anything above that was a Legend. But they couldn’t introduce a monster with 3000+ ATK without having it as a single zone. Hell, the original Maximums only had limited protection and removal.

Rituals and Fusions are in the ED. Fusion Decks could get new Fusions, substitutes, and extenders. Rituals could get new Rituals, Spells, and name clones in the hand or GY. Fusions can fuse from the GY.

What did Maximums get? Alternate win cons. Fusions and high Level Tributes.

And it kinda works. The top Decks right now are Fusion and Ritual. Harpie Lady and RE but they’re not exactly playing the Maximum, just the Fusions.

@N Honestly, I want Konami to make an exception for Maximums. They need Advanced format design & reasoning in order to be consistently playable again ’cause I don’t see how they can improve the mechanic without actually searching and/or foolishing from Deck. Of course, they can let you look at more of the top excavated cards from Deck & add 3 pieces from them with a possible restriction if necessary, but I rather have them support Main Deck strategies more & give them the Advanced Format design & reasoning treatment. This is the only game for Konami to learn & grow from the mistakes of the Advanced Format as well as innovate & create gimmicks. strategies, mechanics, etc that is playable & effective or impactful enough to see successful results that otherwise wouldn’t in the Advanced Format. They need to use it as an opportunity to experiment, balance, & diversify the gameplay.

Since it’s a new game it wouldn’t hurt remaking Fortress Whale into an effect monster.

There’s no point in having normal monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh.

It quickly didn’t make sense in OCG and it won’t make sense in Rush. We just drag them because of Dark Magician, BEWD and co…

It makes more sense in Rush since there’s specific Normal monster support cards (and not just “mix with BEWD or run a single normal monster” Primite) but those don’t work here and some of these rituals don’t seem worth the investment without Zera levels of cards

      • Bruno Santo on February 1, 2026 1:36 pm

@Naransolongo_BB. Not to mention that the best Trap Cards in Rush Duels, ironically, don’t affect Monsters with no Effect (like Normal Monsters) or Maximum Monsters.

This gives Monsters with no Effect and Maximum Monsters (or Decks that use them) an additional niche.

        Its not a normal monster

      • JL-Kun on February 3, 2026 6:25 pm

Guys, Fusions & Rituals with no effect aren’t treated as Normal Monsters. These are non-Effect Monsters just like in the Advanced Format. They would need to specify that in order for them to be supported, but Konami made their support be a little more broad or open that’ll compete with other cards in their pools so.

Without Fortress Whale having flying what are we even doing here? Though you could argue Cyborg Nile grants it flying.
