progressive is the same req as heavy metal
Man, it feels weird to see anime support in print for Royal Rebel after over 2 years (not Royal Rebel’s Funkified, though)
– Royal Rebel’s Progressive gives a field cleanup that the Deck needed, especially Backrow. However, it is weak to many Trap Cards and has no protection against Destruction.
– Royal Rebel’s Grunge came unchanged from the Anime version: a tool for drawing power and not necessarily for LIGHT Fiend.
– Royal Rebel’s Guardian came a small, but valuable Buff for Royal Rebel’s: also, if your opponent controls 2 or more monsters, then, this card’s Level is increased by 1 until the end of the turn.
– King’s Greed came with a more versatile Requirement that helps free up bricks in your Hand, in addition to good draw power.
– King’s Authority came severely buffed in both Requirement and Effect: Requirement no longer requires Level and can affect Special Summon Monsters. Furthermore, in addition to preventing them from activating Effects, Monsters affected by that Trap Card cannot also be Tributed.
With this revelation, I think it’s safe to say that the Demon on the cover of the pack is a Blaze Fiend (Royal Rebel’s Progressive has nothing to do with that Demon on the cover)
Progressive cost is lv5 or higher (same with heavy metal)
Most of Roa’s anime cards have been significantly buffed.
Grunge is the only one that has been nerfed – now having the standard “10 cards in your Deck” like all other draw 1 monsters to prevent abuse, and requiring the face-up Level 7 Defense Position monster you control to be Fiend. Not a big deal as Grunge still combines well with Blues, Phaser, and Silent Doom (on No Wave) that Special Summon Level 7 Fiends in face up Defense Position, and Command to switch your monster back to Attack.
Guardian now has an optional effect of increasing its Level by 1 if your opponent has the right set up. On its own, Guardian can fulfill Progressive, Invasion, and Heavy Metal’s requirements. With Armaments of Ascension or Pelion, Guardian can also meet Hard Rock and Death Doom’s requirements. Also makes using the Star Knights a bit easier. Setting up your GY for follow up and being useful in multiple Fiend Decks (especially when we get more non-LIGHT Level 7+ Fiends) are nice bonuses.
King’s Authority has a much easier requirement (no longer needing the opponent to Normal Summon Level 7 or higher while you control a face up Level 7 or higher Fiend). While it now only works on Level 4 or higher rather than any Effect monster, you can shut down multiple monsters at once with the right board and prevent them from being Tributed. Versatile activation window, good counterplay against many meta Decks by stopping their boards mid-combo, and sets follow up on your next turn. Probably the best card in here as the Deck had awful interruption until now.
Progressive solves 2 issues for the Deck – lack of consistent backrow removal and overcoming high DEF Defense Position bodies with their mediocre ATK. Potentially removing up to 2 cards at once off an easy to Tribute Summon monster gives the Deck much more power.
King’s Greed has a much more flexible requirement and you can easily use it on turn 1, giving the theme much needed draw power while potentially setting up for Grunge’s additional draw and setting up your GY.
