Uminotaurus is an actual card in TCG and OCG. It’s just not really good there.
In RD it’s… an interesting option? 1700 ATK is not too shabby for level 4 and it helps your bigger monsters get through opponent’s defenses.

Then you realised both the boss monster don’t really need piercing, since both the bluefin mostly gonna hit ya directly. Also, kunituna (the fusion one) can even dealt piercing and even provide protection on the whole board…

@tron5060
Then don’t use it for Fish? Fish clearly have better Legend options, but the card also works w/ Aqua & Sea Serpent whose Legend options are more open-ended.
At worst it can be a side deck card for those types (given Dark Matter’s playstyle).

Duel Links has this card too. Does not see play though. Mostly because there are better cards in water attributes you would rather burn normal summon on: Deep Sea Diva for instance?

nope! Legend card are base on the existing card from the OCG/TGC back then implemented into the Rush Duel format as 1 copy only per cardtype

Clearly Pack filler. You’re way better off with Abyss Soldier.

There has not been any Sea Serpent decks in Rush so this card is OK in Aqua and Fish decks. I feel this Legend is not going to see any play because for Aqua you could just run Abyss Solider and for Fish I don’t think that deck needs a monster that deals your other Fish pricing

… there are several sea serpent decks in rush currently. namely sea serpent max and abysskite.

Although the card itself is bad even for Rush, Umnotaurus tells us one important thing. Even though Level 4 vanillas can now reach up to 1700 ATK without being treated as Legends, the same cannot be said for Level 4 Effect monsters. Konami is a bit more hesitant on letting players access powerful Level 4s in this format even though they have practically been power crept for all intents and purposes.
For the two Decks that want to play this – Aqua and Fish (Sea Serpents would rather use LIGHT/DARK Maximums) – Abyss Soldier and Raiza are still the optimal Legends. Piercing isn’t a big deal when removal is so much better.

I suspect the issue of Normal Monsters with high stats that are not Legend Monsters is a result of the overuse of Legend Strike in the format.
Legend Strike (+ Legend Magician) gave the perfect excuse for almost all Decks to carry Legend Normal Monsters. The Meta Decks of that time had their Legend Normal Monster to abuse Legend Strike as an option.
Now, in the current Meta, Legend Strike has lost strength due to the arrival of cards that prevent backrow’s destruction (Ryozai) or substitute options better than Legend Strike came (Over Rush Storm and Jest of the Cosmos Princess)

Legend Magician is about to become her own theme soon so Strike may see a potential resurgence.

I know. I only gave an answer as to why we still have Legend Effect Monsters with high stats while Normal Monsters can now have high stats.
As I mentioned, Legend Strike is the only reason why Konami doesn’t want to give access to Legend Normal Monsters (Rush’s Elemental HERO would start abusing Legend Strike if they had a Legend Normal Monster)

For how lackluster this Legend cards brings to the tri-type, why is It a Legend? Decks can already put up boss monsters more consistently and have a ton of monsters that can get bigger than this card can ever make. I know that Normal Summon a 1700 ATK Effect Monster with no Tribute in Rush hasn’t set precedented yet, but realistically such low stats like that wouldn’t matter when it’s not supported like a lot or removal and, like I said, decks putting up huge stat monsters real easily and consistently exists. I know Konami is trying real careful to balance the game when designing cards and balancing them if they’re like free agent cards, but Rush Duel is at a point where most games can be decided within 10 turns or less and resources spent in those games haven’t gone to the halfway point yet. They better at least buff Legend cards as whole and have you play like they are limited status, so you’re not limited to one of each card type. Otherwise, some support in necessary for these less impactful and/or weaker Legend cards.

Technically, this Legend Monster (and Abyss Soldier) have dedicated support: Splitter Slime.
In fact, Splitter Slime is still used in several Aqua Decks as a way to reuse these Legend Effect Monsters.

Abyss Soldier, Snipe Hunter, and Twin-Barrel Dragon are much better candidates to revive with Slime if you want to reuse effects. If you want a powerful continuous effect instead, Mirage Dragon is the go to for that.
Bruno Santo on
That’s true, but you’re not going to use Snipe Hunter and Twin-Barrel Dragon on an Aqua/Fish/Sea Serpent Deck, let’s be honest (for that, use Dice or Machine/Jinzo Deck)
The only real competition here is Abyss Soldier, which is honestly much better. Outside of that, there isn’t much Aqua/Fish/Sea Serpent Legend Monster to choose from.
And about Mirage Dragon, better use it in Decks that get more use out of it or can reuse it that does not depend on Splitter Slime.
Bruno Santo on
Ok, I honestly didn’t remember this Monster (and people who remember it wonder why it wasn’t banned at the time)
Other than that, don’t be shy Konami. I know you plan to give more support for Fish and Sea Serpent (especially with Grand Extreme being 2 copies)
Stardust Dragon on
Just a decent 1,700 atk lvl beastick with piercing battle damage effect build in. Nothing special about him. His art is pretty decent. In Duel Links, this card don’t see play, as removal is much better than piercing battle dmg these days anyway

Cool! I loved this card in the TCG even though it’s not good, because I love sea slugs. Hopefully it’ll end up more useful in Rush Duels.

Dang! This is the first Rush Duel-original Legend Card.
It’s an existing OCG card.
He’s from Abyss Rising.
