And finally, innovation and creativity goes into Rush Duels’s original Deck.
Legend Deck brings the novelty that we can now have cards that can be “Legend” without the “Legend” category. Ironically, the fact that many Monsters are treated as Legend Monsters here makes a lot of old support that focused on Legend Cards re-emerge (Legend Saber, for example, can add 1 Warrior Type Legend monster from your Graveyard to your hand)
Other than that, the Effects here are pretty standard or average. Rush Duel’s Frieren seems to be the Boss Monster of the Deck since she can take on a Level 10 Maximum or Fusion Monster without any problems. I also like the little trick that all of them have 300 DEF.
PS: Legend Deck is more legendary than “The Ultimate Blue-Eyed Legend”
Now, if I had to do a small review of what I’ve seen of each of the Decks in this pack, I would put it like this.
Ancient Gear >= Legend > Metarion
I feel that Ancient Gear has the advantage of being able to prevent your opponent from activating Trap Cards when Monsters attack: that has been very valuable in Rush Duels and more so currently. Being a Normal Summon with a Tribute is a welcome addition.
However, Legend is close by as this Deck can abuse its unique mechanic (for the moment). Also, they have the “Legend Strike + Legend Magician” combo to abuse freely. Now, while their Monsters and Spell Cards allow the Deck to get through any threat, they are very vulnerable to Trap Cards, which takes away some of their weight.
Metarion is the one that falls short, but could improve with the revelation of the rest of its cards. They still depend on Fusion and lack some consistency (in the sense of resource recovery and draw power)
This is clearly the most powerful and consistent theme in here and undoubtedly the one to see the greatest payoff in competitive, having steady draw, mill, and removal power while being compatible with existing LIGHT Level 7 support.
Grand Priest opens a whole new level of power creep to the format on its own, introducing effects that can now affect an opponent’s Level 10 monsters meaning not even high level Fusions and Maximums have the same protection they used to. Plus it directly supports and recovers the Priest back to your hand to reuse its mill effect again on the same turn.
There is even room for two additional monsters on top of the ones we have now so likely another Legend/Grand Legend pair and a few backrow cards too.
More situationally these cards can be boosted by the Praime engine especially as they are all multiple Types and the low leveled mill on effect.
Jest of Cosmos Princess also -2 to destroy a Maximum monster if opponent has 2 or more spell/trap so i dont think Grand Priest is too too powercrept. In the end, players dont want to deal with an annoying Maximum and to balance it out, Maximum have had great support to enhance its recovery after max being defeated
I am aware that there are cards in the format that directly destroy any card, but I believe this is the first time where a card that only destroys monsters by Level specifically mentions Level 10. If I’m wrong, then at least being a Level 10 on its own merit has less practicality now than before.
Why is there randomly journalist in the comments for rush duels
Okay Konami I’m sorry for complaining about the artwork spam jesus christ lmao
Definitely the most powerful looking of the 3 archetypes at first glance. Every card here has a clear and strong role and there’s already a lot of ways to mill out the deck, let alone adding your usual draw/mill staples.
If they get some more backrow removal or other anti-trap tech I could see this being the new BDIF. Legend Priest is also cute so bonus points even if I prefer Medustar
You win this time in terms of interesting effects Rush Duel, visual design is still boring European stuff thought.
Elves like this are what manga Sherry should’ve had.
Bro Legend Slash powercreep!
