It seems they are rather indifferent to trap cards
OCG/TCG Ancient Gear’s Monsters: Can’t be brought in via Special Summon.
Rush Ancient Gear’s Monsters: Yeah… We don’t do that! (proceeds to ignore that OCG/TCG Ancient Gear’s Monsters lock)
It seems Ancient Gear’s trick in Rush Duels will be to be an EARTH Machine Deck with the same ATK/DEF, they can be Normal Summoned with a Tribute and they will prevent your Opponent from activating Trap Cards (basically, Magic Cylinder’s biggest enemy)
Ancient Gear Medic was left out of this reveal, so expect more Low-Level Ancient Gear’s Monsters.
Gear Section also allowing Tyranno and Powered Soldier to be Normal Summoned without Tributing when coupled with their own effects.
Only the initial wave and a few newer monsters directly inspired by that wave have that summon lock, which is consistent with how the Rush original Ancient Gears also don’t have a lock.
Rush’s conventions may have actually worked against this theme. Because you can’t have monsters with both a continuous and an ignition effect in this format, every Ancient Gear monster must be stuck with that same boring effect. Not to mention this theme has far fewer cards in general compared to the other two, only having at most 12 new cards in total.
Damn was hoping we finally get The Hunting Hounds 🐕 cards. We should really get a Performage Ancient Gear card.

I was hoping Ancient Gear Beast would have a different effect cause Harpie Lady 2 and 3 have different effects in Rush Duel. Gear Section is basically Geartown with a stat boost. While I suspect Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem might come, I would be really surprised if they make Chaos Ancient Gear Giant
Unlike the latter two, Beast’s effect can be imported into Rush without a rulings nightmare. Harpie Lady 2 even has nearly the same identical effect as Beast in the main format (negate effects of monsters destroyed by battle with this card) and that effect became this one (cannot activate Trap cards).
The effects themselves have their spirit kept. Beast and 2 negate a Battle Phase effect from activating. 3 prevents a monster from attacking still.
Hope we get Ancient Gear Workshop and more useful low level ancient gear monsters in this set, maybe even an equip spell
Of the three archetypes that are going to be released in this set this looks for now the worse ,not only in term of the power of the deck but also of the play-style. All the monsters of the archetype have the effect of prevents your opponent from activating traps when attacking. That by itself is not very useful in rush present format, because nowadays the players use more trap cards that can be activate in the main phase like Shiny shady and Invitation. And the fact that the main effect of all monster is that, sometimes even the only effect, makes it the archetype weak and boring.
Only battle trap still use is scat thief, but use after attack:VVV
regular battle traps are less common, but the legend traps ppl use are basically battle traps barring Torrential.
shutting down a haymaker comeback card like Magic Cylinder, Negate Attack, or MF will be useful.
i imagine these will be added to Duel Links soon and they’ll be insane there.
I’d like to see more of them with piercing effect and something to change monsters position or boost atk since Golem is a Legend
