The Justice Hunters era has arrived, shaking up the OCG meta with explosive new strategies—are you ready to counter the storm?
Heya! ArcKnight here reporting for the OCG. The release of the Deck Build Pack: Justice Hunters has brought a seismic shift to the OCG scene, with three standout decks—currently being called Dragon Tail, Yummy, and K9—quickly claiming the spotlight. Each of these strategies boasts unique strengths, making them formidable contenders in tournament play. But fear not, fellow duelists! Through relentless testing and first-hand experience, I’ve identified key tech cards that can give you the edge against these new meta giants.
Here’s the lowdown on my tried-and-true counters:
- Retaliating “C” – The Graveyard Shut Down Specialist
Dragon Tail thrives on leveraging its Graveyard (GY) resources, but Retaliating “C” is here to break that cycle. Acting as a pseudo-Dimension Shifter, this hand trap ensures all cards are banished instead, effectively nullifying Dragon Tail’s monster effects before they can even activate. The best part? Dragon Tail’s own Spell Cards can trigger Retaliating “C”, letting you establish control early. And when Retaliating “C” leaves the field, you can add Maxx “C” to your hand (in the OCG) for even more plusses. Talk about value!
- Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion – The Trap Neutralizer
An old favorite returns to battle the Dragon Tail menace! Ghost Belle excels at shutting down Dragon Tail’s Trap cards, ensuring their pesky interruptions won’t derail your strategy. In addition, it also works wonders against the effects of Yummy synchro monsters that can revive up to two Yummy monsters from their Graveyard which is effective in limiting their field presence. Beyond that, this versatile hand trap can protect your own plays from being thwarted by Called by the Grave. A true lifesaver in many situations!
- Dark Ruler No More – The Board Wipe Enabler
The Yummy deck’s end board is a fortress: a synchro boss monster, Yummy★Snatchy, I:P Masquerena, and Herald of Arc Light. Breaking through such a defense might seem impossible—until you activate Dark Ruler No More. By negating all their monsters’ effects, you’ll be primed to dismantle their setup. Combine this with Evenly Matched for maximum impact. Pro tip: sometimes it’s wise to bait out their resources first, then wipe the board when they’ve overcommitted!
- Triple Tactics Thrust – The Trap Toolbox
If your deck is prone to hand traps, look no further than Triple Tactics Thrust. This card allows you to fetch powerful Normal Traps like Different Dimension Ground, Dimensional Barrier, or even The Black Goat Laughs. These traps are excellent for halting Dragon Tail, Yummy, and K9 in their tracks, giving you a chance to turn the duel in your favor.
- Dominus Purge & Dominus Impulse – The Meta-Specific Hand Traps
The Dominus series hand traps are your secret weapons against the latest meta threats. Dominus Purge targets Dragont Tail’s relentless Traps, while Dominus Impulse counters Special Summon effects—without triggering cards like Triple Tactics Talent. Pair these with decks like Blue-Eyes, Maliss, or Tenpai for optimal synergy and results.
- Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon – Your All-In-One Dragon
If you’re a fellow Blue-Eyes player, then rejoice—your ace Synchro monster is about to make life miserable for the latest decks! Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon, often underestimated, boasts a powerful effect that prevents two or more monsters from being Special Summoned at the same time. That’s bad news for Yummy and K9!
Yummy’s Synchro Monsters rely on reviving two monsters from the Graveyard when a card or effect is activated, but with Spirit Dragon on the field, they’ll be forced to summon fewer resources. And let’s not forget Obedience Schooled, a staple in Yummy’s engine, which Spirit Dragon completely shuts down. K9 takes a hit too, as Spirit Dragon bars them from activating the Special Summon effects of K9 – #66a Jökull and K9 – #66b Lantern. Sometimes, the classics are exactly what you need to stand strong against the new wave of contenders!
- Dinowrestler Pankratops – Disruption meets Domination!
Dinowrestler Pankratops is back in action, proving once again why it’s one of the most versatile board breakers in the game! Not only does it stand strong against Justice Hunters’ top contenders, but its sheer presence makes it a nightmare for any deck for most strategies today both in the OCG and TCG. A defense-position Herald of Arc Light? No problem. A 2300 ATK K19 – 17 Ripper? Dinowrestler Pankratops forces K9 to activate K9 – EX Forced Liberation, but here’s the twist—Pankratops can tribute itself to wipe out Ripper, shutting down their Xyz summon before they even get started. Sometimes, all it takes is one unstoppable force to throw off an entire strategy!
Conclusion: Adapting to the Meta
The Justice Hunters format is off to an electrifying start, and the dueling landscape is more dynamic than ever. While these tech cards have proven invaluable in my testing, the meta evolves quickly, and new innovations are always on the horizon. As we continue to dissect these strategies, I’m excited to see what countermeasures duelists will develop in the weeks ahead.
What about you? Have you discovered any secret techs to topple Dragon Tail, Yummy, or K9? Share your insights, and let’s shape the meta together. This has been ArcKnight of RespectYGO. Until next time!

So how good are the 3 new decks in the ocg? Are they the best bar none, top tier or just ok?
Dragon Tail is now dominating the OCG scene with K9 as second best (based on my observation in ranking). Both decks have turn 0 plays with Dragon Tail generating huge advantage without being afraid to turn enders like “Mulcharmy Fuwalos” and “Maxx C”. Yummy on the other hand is also a great contender with its one card combos with Herald of Arc Light as great counter to Dragon Tail but could be halted by hand traps harder than the former. I have also observed that these three decks counter one another.
Top tier. There are still plenty of really good decks that compete as well, and all 3 archetypes are super strong but not broken
Dragon tail is broken to heck and back because it works with all the other broken lore pile bs we’ve been putting up with for the past 6 years. Albaz and Diabellestar are some of if not the worst gamebreaking cheat piles to ever exist. Dragon tail even by itself practically blows the other 2 decks out of the water and I wouldn’t be surprised if the deck gets multiple hits on the banlist. Who knows maybe it’ll force Konami to finally hit branded just to hit Dragon Tail indirectly.
Well I’m sticking to my ancient gear deck, I wasn’t expecting to actually win with pure against my local shop but well that happened out a combination of dumb luck and running a 50 card pile.
A benefit of the maze of the master releasing a obscure ancient gear that almost nobody took notice of in Yugioh 5ds season 2 episode 3 called ancient gear statue.
“#BUT THAT’S JUST ME#”!!!
If other people have different opinions on justice hunters and counters to them then speak your mind people.
Congratulations on the win!
Great article! I wonder if Winter Cherries could be worth it, since it can reactively hit an Altharion for example. Though I’m not looking forward a return of Dimensional Barrier in the meta..
It’s something that some people are teching in the sides/main. However, not every deck can do it as it requires some extra deck space. They add the Link 1 Yummy, Altharion, Detonator, Izuna etc.
i Found funny… and sad, how Konami tries so hard to make the Powercreep of the game scaling so hard, i mean after Kashtira that didn’ let you play on your turn… now we have turn 0 decks… we don’t even need a turn anymore to win… now you have to use handtraps in your own turn… so funny
