Strategic Summary:

Today’s CDP features the return of multiple themes and engines to my channel, not to mention the burn strategy, but this time we’re keeping competitivity in mind! Since the Volcanic are front and center, I will have to start there, as this FIRE/Pyro theme consists of various monsters that have plenty of ways to burn the opponent. While plenty of Volcanic builds aim to leverage Volcanic Scattershot, I instead turn to a smaller engine featuring Volcanic Emperor, Volcanic Trooper, and Volcanic Counter, each adding their own flavor of burn to the mix. For their part, both Counter and Trooper are Level 3 monsters, allowing you to do some fun plays with Cherubini, Ebon Angel of the Burning Abyss and Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames… but I’ll leave that for you to witness on your own.

Even if you don’t start with the Volcanic engine, you can always turn to the Radiant Typhoon engine to get you started. That’s because Radiant Typhoon Swen, Radiant Typhoon Eldam, or Radiant Typhoon Chant all lead to a full combo, and if desperate, get you two Level 3s to jumpstart the Volcanic combos. If you already have access, great – you can instead leverage Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Marine Eidolon so you can access Radiant Typhoon Mandate to begin your endless cycling of Quick-Play Spell Cards. The next and final engine centers around the new Dark Magician support from LOCH, and we’re starting with Dark Magical Curtain (YGOrg Translation). This Quick-Play Spell allows each player to Special Summon a DARK Spellcaster from the hand or Deck; although that’s not really a problem if your opponent has one, as Volcanic Blaze Accelerator will take card of that for you, right quick. This is also your best lead-in to a DARK Spellcaster for Dark Magician of Destruction, the next key card.

By now, everyone should know that Dark Magician of Destruction leads to The Gaze of Timaeus, which leads to Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon – it’s a well-known combo. But did you know that you can summon The Dark Magicians instead for 4 additional free draws by your opponent’s Draw Phase? Its effect is a soft once-per-turn, so if you just happen to summon it, use a Spell, summon it back with Charmer Quartet in Bloom, use another Spell, then banish/resummon it with Worldsea Dragon Zealantis and use another Spell, you just hit 3 of those draws. Then by that point, you will surely have filled your GY with enough Spells for Mandate to trigger it on your opponent’s turn as well. These additional draws are before you factor in the draws from Mandate too. You can use these draws for a variety of engines, from leveraging Gaze over and over to using Super Polymerization and the new HERO Fusions… the options are endless when you have that many resources to work with. So embrace the Magical Chaos, with a heavy dose of BURN BABY BURN!
