CDP: Tenyi Primite, ft. SUDA Support

Non-Effect monsters AND Normals? That Works!?

Strategic Summary:

Today’s CDP features the debut of the new Tenyi support in the Supreme Darkness core set, this time alongside the Normal Monster Support theme, the Primite. This build was actually a direct result of a commented request for me to include Metaphys Armed Dragon into a deck, so this is what I came up with! The Tenyi archetype consists of Wyrm monsters that love to be used as either Synchro or Link Material, mainly because every single Main Deck Tenyi monster can be Special Summoned from the hand while you control no Effect Monsters. After you bring out your first, turn it into their Link-1 Monk of the Tenyi, and your board is set to bring out another! From there, the advantage can start to build, as most of Tenyi monsters can be banished from the GY to activate an additional effect, such as Tenyi Spirit – Ashuna, which Special Summons a Tenyi from the Deck while you control a non-Effect monster. So let’s get into what’s changed with the Tenyi.

The new wave of support gave the theme three new cards. First up its first Level 4 Tuner, Tenyi Spirit – Suruya. When used for a Wyrm Synchro Summon, it lets you Special Summon any Tenyi Link Monster from your Extra Deck at the cost of LP. Typically, you’ll use this to Synchro Summon the new Tenyi Level 8 Synchro, Tenyi Spirit – Mula Adhara, which tutors a Field Spell on Synchro Summon if you have 2 or more Wyrm monsters across your GY and/or Banishment. The last new card for them is the Field Spell you’ll be grabbing, Tenyinfinity. This Field Spell tutors either of its non-Tenyi support cards on activation: Vessel of the Dragon Cycle or Heavenly Dragon Circle. Both cards are really great extenders, getting you access to the best Wyrm monster available to the Deck – Mare Mare. Finally, I’m also going to highlight a SUDA Free Agent that directly supports the deck – Great Knight of the Red Lotus (YGOrg Translation). This Level 8 FIRE Warrior can be Special Summoned from the hand/GY each turn by shuffling back up to 3 non-Effect monsters, letting you recycle both your non-Effect Tenyis and the Normal Monsters run for the Primite Engine!

Now all of this sounds nice, but how does the Tenyi theme tie into the Primite archetype? Well, the Tenyi theme tends to leave Tokens behind for many of its plays, whether it is a Tenyi Spirit Token from Tenyi Spirit- Sahasrara or a Mini Mare Mare Token. These leftovers serve as great tribute material for Primite Imperial Dragon, especially once you factor in the free draws from Flawless Perfection of the Tenyi you get when your opponent Special Summons. Not only that, but there are Wyrm Normal Monsters that easily make their way to the board, such as Mystery Shell Dragon, setting up even if you don’t draw into a standard Tenyi combo. I’m also using Angel Trumpeter here, as it is a Level 4 Tuner that enables Synchro Summons, sometimes even before starting a proper Tenyi combo. The Eternal Cycle continues, especially if you take a moment to think outside the box!
