I’m not sure I understand what this deck is trying to do. Just Rank 5 spam, sure, but what’s up with the spell traps? The weird locks too.
The Spells and Traps are designed to be played during either player’s turn so you can use the Xyz monsters much more effectively at responding to your opponent’s activated monster effects.
The Main Deck monsters respond to hand traps.
You can make any Rank 5 turn 0 with Izuna. The Spell/Traps are there to allow Jokull and Lantern to make your LIGHT Xyz Monsters. The lock exists most likely because of Pair-a-Dice Smasher, which this deck can easily make using 3 materials if Jokull and Lantern didn’t lock you out of LIGHTs.
find it so funny that for all the times we ask konami to put proper locks onto certain decks, a GAMBLE card is where they go “no we are putting this lock here for this one card”
@Festa I had a feeling it was because of Pair-a-Dice Smasher, but then, why make 2/3 of the xyz monsters Light? Just make them fire or something.. Yeah, you have the Quickplays, but that feels…off. You made them light to justify the S/T?
They prevent you from using cyber dragon nova and pair a dice smasher specifically. The former you know the latter is pretty much just shock master
@Daniel Okay, but again, why make 2/3 xyz light?
cyber dragon nova needs machines tho, so its really only there for pair a dice and to make the archetype worse
Release the hounds
Feast of the wild lvl5
I’d also say having a couple of cards that can make your opponent draw so that they have cards in their hand should they be too low, like Chainsaw Insect, or Dark Bribe would be useful.
Is the guy above me suggesting you use chainsaw insect?
Just use Seventh Tachyon instead.
Yes I’m suggesting Chainsaw Insect. Seventh Tachyon doesn’t make your opponent draw a card, which is the entire reason I suggested it. The K9 monsters mostly seem to have the effect of being able to normal summon without tribute if your opponent has 2 or more cards in their hand. The reason I suggested Chainsaw Insect is for moments when the opponent has 1 or less cards in their hand, so you can still use that effect when needed. The fact that it is one of the stronger level 4 monsters that doesn’t have any summoning restrictions, and its demerit could be used as a benefit in this case makes it a fitting addition in my mind. You probably only need the 1 copy though.
The only problem I have with Seventh Tachyon is all of the Number 100+ cards you can use for it would be useless as anything other than Seventh Tachyon fodder (which may be great in a pure K9 deck, but those who mix archetypes, there might not be enough room in the extra deck for it)
I’m not a dog person.. buuut
She isn’t a dog, she’s a weasel. “Izuna” is a Japanese name for the common species of weasel, and with the wrist-blades and wind slashes shown on the art of Ripper, she’s clearly inspired by a yokai called the kamaitachi, which is a wind-riding weasel carrying a sickle.
Iizuna.
There’s probably a joke intended down the line for a hypothetical Rank 9 here.
Izuna is the Pipe Fox.
Iizuna is the Common Weasel.
@TheFreakParade Why did you think they meant Izuna and not Lupus/Hound/Werewolf?
Love how the archetype is called K9, and Lupus is the name of a nasty disease specifically for dogs
Lupus can also mean a constellation of the mid-Southern Sky.
Feast of the Wild lvl 5
Strong foundation, needs more xyz monsters to be playable
why are they designed to be worse going second?
and why does art style just not coherent on some cards? (like is there a reason i’m just missing?)
Close enough, welcome back WAR ROCK
Their generic Rank 5 counterplay, multiple searchers in theme with Seventh Tachyon (and a lesser extent Chaotic Elements), four ways to set the Quick-Play Spells to avoid Ash, and Izuna herself being Ash bait, makes them at least interesting to play with.
What do you mean by incoherent? All of the main deck monsters are posing in front of the same location, with Lupus posing in front of a destroyed version of the location. Probably to signify they’ve gone rogue or is the odd one out.
The Spells/Trap are the main deck monsters transforming into their werewolf forms(or preforming an XYZ summon) and the XYZ monsters are their werewolf forms.
nah, you don’t get it, if you go second, then you just play on the opponent’s turn
Karl_Khai i dont understand why lupus just kind of is more detailed and izuna just kinda is less detailed, other than that the art is like fine
Looks like there are two K9 factions – the police and the criminals – and the faction they belong to in-universe is signified by which artstyle they adhere to (animesque for the police, detailed for the criminals).
They’re cops: they only attack if provoked (by doing something ordinary that annoys them, the quick-summon requirement, or by existing with the potential to do such a thing, the free-normal requirement).
thank you for pointing out that ordinary things often annoy them. like sorry for walking while being not white
Cool
Well, I’m half glad that you can’t make light xyz with K9, otherwise it’s going to be 3 material Number 67: Pair a Dice Smasher turbo
Ikr. But you could already make pair a dice smasher in goblins if you wanted to
OCG about to remember they have Scythe at 1
Deck dies to opponent siding out hand trap monsters and replacing them with spell and traps, kinda. It’s a deck that punishes very common thing in YGO! but it literally cannot become more than a very strong rogue option because the moment it will become mildly popular people will start playing around it.
It’s a good deck on paper that is horrible if you take a step back and look at meta implications. It’s crippled by it’s own existence.
They also work off of GY effects and non-HT hand effects. That’s a very broad range of cards to simply remove from the meta to keep the deck non-relevant.
At the very least, I feel like 3x Izuna 1x Lupus will find their way into multiple decks as an engine. Dropping a turn 0 Rank 5 is powerful.
finally, ethical XYZ armor fortress
That Tistina Ashened fixer card Chaotic Element is rota for 2 of the 3 youd want to see in your hand. Neat. Otherwize generic r5 xyz or link material spam i guess. Will wait and see what people come up with
pair of dice smasher aside it also means no cyber dragon nova and infinity
Not that you can make nova anyway because they aren’t machines
Say The Line, Farfa: “QUICK EFFECT, NEGATE!!!”
Haven’t seen an archetype this poorly designed since Tistina.
Agree.
what if the opponent do not activate monsters in hand or gy, what are you gonna do, you can’t even make a rank-5 if you draw all 4 of the archetype monsters.
opponent have 0 reason to hand trap this deck, they will imperm, otherwise they will just help you
ok im stupid, you can make a rank 5
you’ve already won at that point because you’ve mindgamed your opponent into doing nothing
Finally….HOT DADDY WEREWOLF!!
Need werewolf wife. The sudden RK9 reminds me of of No. 53 & 92. The Trade In for 5s is happening this year isn’t it? No maindeck beast-type? Ok. I’d actually like to see punishment for the opponent vomiting their entire hand on turn 1 instead (2 or less cards) but I guess that doesn’t happen either and they’ll still have 900 cards in hand just that they’re all hand traps.
“When your opponent activates a monster effect”
Say the line eXceed!
Certain I’ve seen the thumbnail show years ago but the title eludes me.
space patrol luluco
Yikes. Men in waifu archetype. This is L already. Also f*ck dragontail
They remember Pair-a-dice exist and gave them no-light xyz lock.
Such a shame. It would be funny as heck to see Pair-a-dice in competitive play.
I find kinda amusing how two of their monsters specifically use the slashed zero symbol. If this will stay in TCG one will be able to become rulesharking asshole against the two and half people that play Prohibition and will try to name this card.
Reminder: It’s specifically NOT “Double Oh”.
Bold of you to think that card won’t be played as staple in this deck. That card basicaaly is Shock Master
Yall ygorganization miswrote this, it locks you into light xyzes not out of them
This deck is useless and I’m glad it is. I would be so mad if the furry Waifus became a popular archetype and you freaks started making playmats
I hope that it will get popular enough to get entire line of products and you’ll be mogged on the tournament by someone rocking Izuna+Daddy wolf T-Shirt just to specifically make yoy seethe and you’ll start crying in rage over it and judges will give you life-long ban for acting like re tard. 🙂
I wonder what number 40 of the set effects will be and will it have something to do with Werewolf or will be Warwolf in the TCG?
Komani R&D: ZZZ is still popular, right?
zenless zone zero type ah deck
I don’t think this deck will be that great, but I implore everyone to think about K9-17 in a vacuum. While I think everyone has correctly recognized that it punishes handtraps, I think what most people have missed is that some decks HAVE to active a monster effect in hand or grave for their combo. Unfortunately, neither Ryzeal or Maliss are such decks, but in a future meta K9-17 could be live going second almost every game.
Any deck with spare ED room could play 3 of her and 1 K9-00 to make a N.As.H Knight, which is a Quick-Effect, non-targeting suck. I know they intend you to summon K9-17 Ripper, but that would just basically be Skull Meister with an ED requirement. N.As.H Knight, on the other hand, makes K9-17 fill a handtrap niche that no other card fills. Plus K9-00 can give you another free body on your own turn.
Actually, I just reconsidered K9-17 Ripper as a target, mainly due to it being able to insulate against further handtraps, which in modern Yu-Gi-Oh is incredibly common. I think running both N.As.H. Knight (plus 2 Number 101+ Monsters for its effect) and K9-17 Ripper could make for a pretty strong generic tech in certain decks.
Well, Maliss will soon enough become a deck with a hand effect (it already is due to Bystials, but it wasn’t such inherently) with the Maliss monster in Alliance Insight.
Still, regarding the TCG I wouldn’t think too hard about the opponent not having effects from the hand, I’d rather think about the secondary engine to force out those handtraps. Kashtira could be a good companion piece. Or pretty much any engine that doesn’t need your normal summon.
Hell yea unofficial generaider support
I mean… what other deck gives the opponent cards in the hand, supports monsters of different types, and can make Rank 9 xyzs?
i like this deck, mid range rank 5 shenanigans let’s you play obscure cards and it probably sucks ass because it doesn’t have grind game and expects your opponent to play into it. my type of deck.
What exactly is this referencing? Because these cards feel like they are references to… something.
Zenless Zone Zero
furry archetype, looks pretty consistent
Release the hounds I guess.
At least we know that Jokull and Latern will have an XYZ version on Duelist Alliance
You mean duelist advance, and no they will not get support in that set. So far they have waited until the second set. It makes sense becoming the sets are only 1 month a part. They have to get the first wave of support out and then put the second wave in the second core set once the archetype has been out for a bit
I don’t think I seen anyone comment on the fact that the only ‘lock’ this deck has is two monsters can’t be used for a light XYZ….says nothing about using them for fusions, links, or synchros.
This archetype has potential, and I’m calling it now, we are going to get ‘unleashed’ forms of Lantern and Jokull.
Konami should have printed the Dominus traps later if they had known they would make these
all cops are barking
Oh, would you look at that! The “muh waifu archetype” complainers look even dumber now, since I can very clearly identify at least 2 men amongst these cards (and even the 2/3 of the boss monsters are men). Konami played you fools like a fiddle by using Ripper as the representative back during the announcement. That said, it’s tradition to have a full female archetype in these, so I do still wish it was the case. Don’t have anything to add in terms of gameplay that others haven’t said, tho. This is a kinda weird one, but I’m still gonna try it because it’s the one I’ve been looking forward the most, so let’s see how it ends up doing…
This deck just feels too fair, sure playing on turn 0 is cool and all but it’s just too weak, even if you play around the LIGHT Xyz lock and have Infinity + Ripper that is still weaker than what most meta decks are putting up in 2025.
Has ears and tail – warrior type
Is human – beast warrior type
Wut???
She is probably a human and wears fake animal ears and tail and the guy is a werewolf, so?
As much as i would love this being a zzz reference is not, only lycaon is similar none of the other characters are zzz anything.
this probably have another more obscure reference
@Rabbitup
There are not really any good rank 5s to into on the opponent’s turn. At the moment it seems like you want to go for the hound rank 5 on turn 0 in order to stall and then remove a card from the opponent’s field on your standby phase.
The hounds are calling
The Archetype doesn’t lock you into Xyz
You can play Level 5 Tuner 😆
As a Super Sentai Fan, I’m upset that there’s no K9 monster that pays homage to Deka Master.
