STORY & ILLUSTRATIONS No.15
The Decisive Battle Surging Around the Lone Flaming Seas Island
The “Atlanteans”: An army aiming to dominate all of the land. The “Mermails”: overwhelmed by their power, waiting for their chance to strike back. And the “Fire Kings”, who inhabit the disputed, solitary island. This three-way struggle only continues to intensify.
Story Guide
Seismic movements were caused by the fight of the Atlanteans lead by “Poseidra” against the Fire Kings. As a result, the Mermails, displaced from their habitat, had their treasured bracelet stolen from them, and began to be ruled by the Atlanteans. However, there is a secret hidden in that bracelet…
High Tide on Fire Island
“Garunix”, the protector of the solitary island, facing the advancing forces of the Atlanteans, ignites its own body to its limits, successfully forcing the Atlantean forces to retreat.
Abyss-squall
It is said that whoever obtains this bracelet will become the king of the Mermails. Poseidra gets its wish to rule over the Atlanteans once it obtained this bracelet, however its body was taken over by the king living inside of it.
The Flaming Birth of the Fire King Deity
Due to the fierce attacks of the allied forces of the Atlanteans and Mermails, the seismic movements in the “Fire King Island” became more frequent. As a result, the “Fire King Sanctuary” hidden inside the volcano of the solitary island revealed itself. Surprisingly, a ring just like the Mermail’s bracelet was enshrined in it. And furthermore, from this ring which was the energy source of the solitary island, the spirit “Ulcanix” emerged in front of the subjects of the Fire Kings.

Fire King Sanctuary
“Fire King High Avatar Garunix”, who had burnt away in the previous battle, was reborn as “Ponix” through the “Circle of the Fire Kings”. Ponix, receiving the power of Ulcanix, the spirit protecting the ring, ascended to a “Sacred Fire King”. The power of the Sacred Fire King also affected its allies, evolving its entourage of Fire King Avatars into Fire King High Avatars.
When Poseidra wore the bracelet, its body was taken over by “Abyssgaios”, the King of the Mermails who was sealed inside of it. Abyssgaios, who had observed the battles between the Atlanteans and the Fire Kings through the bracelet, resolved to continue attacking the solitary island in order to rebuild the Mermails. He reorganized the allied forces of the Atlanteans and Mermails and began marching once again towards the solitary island.
Mermail Abyssgaios
The Sacred Fire King, sensing the threat, commanded the Fire Kings to ignite their bodies to their limit, combining with Garunix. This was the moment in which “Garunix Eternity, Hyang of the Fire Kings” had its flaming birth. Abyssgaios, scorched by this divine fire, had no other choice but to retreat.

TL notes:
-The title of this chapter combines the Japanese names of Fire King Island (炎王の孤島, Solitary Fire King Island) and Firestorms Over Atlantis (渦巻く海炎, Swirling/Surging Sea-Flames)
-“Fire King Deity” is the title in the Japanese name of Garunix Eternity (炎王神, en’oushin), which was localized as “Hyang”.
-A more literal translation with the Japanese names for the “Avatars” becoming “High Avatars” would be that “Fire King Beasts” becoming “Fire King Divine Beasts”.
The Divided Forces of the Seas
A strange phenomenon occurred to Abyssgaios after he was injured by the divine flames: Suddenly, the consciousness of Poseidra, who had its body stolen, had regained control. It sacrificed the souls of the Atlantean army, who were supposed to be its allies, as nourishment to recover its body.
Poseidra, the Atlantean Dragon
After regaining control, Poseidra split the bracelet in two, separating itself from Abyssgaios. At that moment, Abyssgaios, having most his power stolen away, lost his memories and transformed into “Neptabyss”. Abysstrite, the Queen of the Mermails, extended a helping hand towards Neptabyss.
Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince
Since the power of the bracelet was weakened after Poseidra stole it, the Mermails were able to escape from its control. However, the quick-witted Abysstrite pretended to still be under its control in order to deceive Poseidra. Using this to her advantage, she helped Neptabyss become the “Atlantean Prince”. Hiding her aspirations for revenge in the bottom of her heart, she pretended to join forces with the Atlanteans, in order to rebuild the lost capital of the Mermails: Lemuria.
Mermail Abysstrite
Abysstrite headed towards land in order to investigate Lemuria, which had surfaced due to the seismic movements. However, in order for her to walk on land, she had to perform a forbidden technique, paying a dear price in exchange for legs. She was willing to sacrifice anything in order to recover the treasures of the Mermails, and finish off Poseidra when it least expects it. She was resolute…
Mermail Abyssalacia
Abysstrite proceeded towards Lemuria, accompanied by the three sisters serving as the Queen’s entourage: “Abysslinde”, “Abyssgunde” and “Abysshilde”. When they arrived to the very depths of Lemuria, they were influenced by the Mermail spirits of old, and were suddenly enveloped by a bright light. Immediately after that, the spirit guarding the bracelet, “Abyssrhine”, manifested herself. Abyssrhine explained the truth behind the bracelet, and formed an ancient covenant with Abysstrite. And thus, “Abysstrite, the Atlantean Spirit” was born.

Thanks to the efforts of Abysstrite, Neptabyss assembled all 3 Abyss-scales in one place. With their power, he recovered his memories, and finally declared independence from the Atlanteans.

The 3 Hidden Treasures
Poseidra spent this brief break building its forces and recovering the power it lost during its fight against the Fire King Deity. Leading the armies of the Atlanteans, which had been reduced to less than half, they invaded the solitary island once again.
Poseidra, the Storming Atlantean
Poseidra faces Garunix, who had become a Fire King Deity, once again. As the heads of each of the forces clash, their bracelets shine brightly in response to each other. And as they did, Poseidra’s body transformed in the blink of an eye, evolving into the three-headed “Poseidra Abyss”.

Remember when the OG Fire King SD was released and Nepthys was kind of just there, connected to it all mostly by being an effect-counterpart to Garunix? Now he has gotten his harem and is not even involved in his little brothers’ silly wars.
Nephthys is a woman bird. she got booba if you look at the artwork closely.
Nephtys… is a girl. A female goddess. A bird lady with boobs.
I did not ask my pieces of cardboard for their gender.
Either way, her brother is having an all-out fight with the god of the sea, and she’s just chilling there with the girls.
You don’t need to ask them for their gender, you can clearly see it’s a woman by her female parts
lol, dont listen to them, Neptabyss is a male, konami is vague most times. But this time they we quite obvious as they referto them as him, “king” and “prince”. Yugioh players have a problem with telling gender because i remember they were saying mirror mage of the ice barrier was a woman when it was clearly a younger version of prior/ spirit of ice barrier.
Time to review the phantasm spiral cards, yippee.
man i hope spiral gets more cards, it’s my fav normal monster deck
If they have to perform a forbidden technique and pay a huge price to get on the island, why do they even want it? I could understand if it was just power-mad Poseidra, but even new Mermail leadership immediately jumps to “let’s go kill those FIRE guys”.
Different island. The island they performed the ritual to get to was “Lemuria, Forgotten City”, the Mermail’s original home before it was raised from the bottom of the sea and turned into an island by the clash between Fire Kings and Atlanteans.
put simply, Abysstrite did the ritual to be able to get to Lemuria as it rose out of the ocean from the fighting, as the island has a item they want to use to take out Poisidra
This is all to get revenge on Poseidra, not the Fire King’s. She REALLY wanted that guy dead.
I get this is going to be nitpicky, but I couldn’t help but notice:
This page of lore states that Abysslinde, Abyssgunde, and Abysshilde accompanied Abysstrite to Lemuria to find Abyssrhine.
I recalled a tidbit from Master Guide 4’s storylines, which features the art of Abyss-Sphere for the Mermail section as an illustration of what befell those who opposed the Atlanteans using the bracelet against the Fire Kings. The monster featured on that art is Abysslinde.
So, I ponder, did the event depicted in Abyss-sphere really happen to Abssylinde? And if so, how was she saved from becoming bubbles in the ocean?
Aside from that, I’m happy to see this lore expansion, partially because, as my moniker suggests, I like Fire Kings. Also I have inadvertently built a deck featuring Mermails and Atlanteans (thanks the QC Boxes).
Even this is wildly more interesting than Sky Strikers. I wish it wasn’t so unbalanced with 3 WATER themes and just 1 FIRE theme though. Also, if getting legs involved paying a dear price to perform a forbidden technique, it sounds more like Salacia should have been a Ritual monster. But I guess the two arrows on the Link are meant to be her two legs.
Ritual wouldn’t fit the easter egg they were aiming for. After all, mermaids doing something forbidden at a dear price for legs? They basically made a deal and sold their voices to the sea witch.
Also They then Undidi the whole ritual cuz here final form doesn’t even have legs.
What a waste of a forbidden ritual that they paid dearly for.
She only needed the legs to traverse Lemuria since it had been raised above sea level. They were a means to an end and accomplished their purpose.
So where’s the Rayquaza archetype to deal with these nerds
Actually, Nepthys’ brothers are Exodia and Slifer
