If I am not mistaken this is the first time Konami completely overhauled a legacy card as opposed to making a new original substitute (as they did for Valkyrion). Konami’s willingness to completely retcon a card to this degree, as opposed to merely changing how it plays (like they did for Cocoon), could suggest future efforts to port certain themes and retcon their category or even Rush Types.
Great Moth also pushes the ATK conventions for Main Deck monsters in this format by having no restrictions printed on the card itself, unlike other 2600 ATKs like Gilford or the two Buster Blader Rush retrains.
The lack of a Level restriction on Pupating Petit Moth could suggest upgrades beyond Perfectly Ultimate.
The second Buster Blader Rush retrain had no drawbacks to it either, it was practically a vanilla.
The downside was you couldn’t attack with it if you used its effect that turn.
Definitely not the first time a Rush card functions massively differently than its OCG counterpart (Harpie Lady 2, Jinzo – Returner and Triangle Ecstasy Spark are basically new cards, for example.) Also, Cocoon of Evolution’s effect in the OCG just straight didn’t matter. It has no real mechanical relevance to how the moths work in the first place (beyond just being an Equip), and I’d never have expected Rush to replicate it. Cocoon’s also functioned very differently in stuff like Video Games before (being a Spell that transforms Petit Moth/equivalent). While I’m slightly surprised they didn’t give Moths an Equip gimmick like their later OCG support has done, the way they did do it doesn’t surprise me. The alternative would’ve just been making Perfectly Ultimate a contact fusion of Cocoon and Great Moth or something anyway.
Somehow, Rush Duels made Moth a viable strategy by turning it into a Fusion Deck.
We still need to see the rest of the cards, but I like the foundation laid here.
hey wait a minute….
Now make these for yugioh tcg
Surprisingly for me, Moths are a Fusion Deck and Sparkhearts Girl go Ritual. I expected it to be the other way around.
While this direction is certainly more economical, it still feels pretty incomplete.
Also, I see no reason as to why the remaining Neo-Spacians can’t be imported with these reworked cards.
there is more incoming
This make Moth deck more playable than the original, unless you use Cocoon of Ultra Evolution. Being honest, only time I had ever used Great Moth and Perfect Ultimate Great Moth is in Yugioh Duelist of the Roses. Actually curious if they will make more.
Yes! Thanks for the changes.
Pretty nifty though I’m annoyed Great Moth isn’t a fusion as well. I remember when lv. 4 or lower def capped at 1400, sorry Stray Familiar! Not that I agreed with that decision. I was expecting larva moth to be main deck and mill 3, grab cocoon from the gy or something. I still find it hilarious the petit moth retcon was for the sake of balancing how the line worked in the game boy games and then the ocg copy pasted that without considering the broader implications leading to the quirky larva moth we got.
I know Rush doesn’t take too many creative liberties with ogs but I wish both Great Moths had some atk debuff against the enemy.
Again and again. WAste of arts
Quit being a baby

Not familiar with Go Rush card pool, but currently how easy it is to get a level 1 insect into the action multiple times? If you have Petit Moth, cocoon and great moth, you have an easy 3500 beater. The backup is without cocoon on in hand is contact fusion Pupating Larvae Moth and then fusion summon again with Great Moth you summoned with your other Petit Moth. So far don’t know if we have other cards that can ensure we have a Great Moth or recycle Petit Moth, that’s what I see the deck is going to want.
The fusion effs can use monsters in the hand, so you don’t need to get Great Moth on field.
You either need:
Cocoon + Great Moth = PUGM
(Petit + L5 or lower insect = Larvae) + Great Moth = PUGM
It’s cool to see PUGM actually be playable, but god what an utterly boring way to do it.
I hope the rest of the archetype’s cards are more interesting.
