RD/MRP2-JP033 7シフト 7 Shift
Normal Spell Card
[REQUIREMENT] Send 1 card from your hand to the GY.
[EFFECT] Special Summon 1 Level 7 or lower Effect Monster from your hand to your field face-up.
Konami is clearly picking new cards from specific duels to be printed – first they printed Luke and Tiger’s new cards in their duels against each other, and now they are printing Luke’s 2 new Spells in his company duel against Yuga. Hopefully we can use this information to predict which other anime originals will also get printed (Ticketkat and Self Fan Club may have more of a chance now.)
7 Shift got significantly buffed. While you can only summon an Effect monster now, you can send any card from your hand to the GY (instead of specifically a Level 7 or higher monster) to meet the requirement. You are also no longer restricted from attacking directly with Level 7 or higher monsters on the same turn.
Despite its wide summon pool and turning a dead card in hand to a resource in the GY, 7 Shift will probably see some experimentation in certain meta builds but come up just short of being a staple in those decks. This card is an inherent -1 – giving up two cards in hand for a monster on your field. For the same requirement, you can draw from your Deck, destroy your opponent’s cards, Special Summon or recover monsters from your GY, shuffle cards from your opponent’s GY back into the Deck, send cards from the top of your GY to start your combos, or potentially two or more of these simultaneously.
7 Shift does have one thing going for it that the other -1s do not – the distinct niche of more easily meeting the requirements of specific Effect monsters that have to be Special Summoned for their effects, such as Treasure Dragon or Darkness Zerorogue, without committing to board presence (such as needing to otherwise summon Sevens Road Witch or Darkness Rouge to activate Zerorogue’s effect).
Perhaps I am wrong here and this card is probably super overpowered – it has a surprising amount of versatility and there are times when you do not have the Tributes of high leveled monsters immediately in hand but you want to summon a specific Level 5-7 monster anyway for their effects or field presence.
Overall a good card but I do question its meta viability.

In theory, this Spell Card looks powerful and can become a Staple. However, it is currently competing with Legend Strike and I think it is preferable to throw all your Level 7 Monsters into the GY before even bringing them onto the Field.
I think there are certain Decks that will take advantage of this Spell Card because it is generic and can lead to some interesting plays (in fact, this Spell Card speeds up the process of bringing Void Strike Dragon Zerogaigias to the Field a bit)
Now, on the topic of SEVENS quartet Duels:
– It seems that with Luke they decided to go with Luke vs Yuga R3 and Luke vs Tiger. Choices without a doubt, I’m sure both Duels are not that popular in the West (especially Luke vs Yuga R3)
– With Romin, so far they only have emphasis on her Duel against Princess G. Honestly, another option would have been Roa vs Romin to get original cards with references (or Romin vs Yuga R2)
That leaves Gakuto and Yuga as the only ones who don’t have Duel-specific or impactful cards printed, at least compared to Luke and Romin.
