Strategic Summary:
Welcome to today’s Creative Deck Profile, this time taking the Gunkan Suship archetype out for a regatta with the Adventurer theme! The Gunkan Suship archetype consists of FIRE/Aqua monsters that revolve around one Normal Monster, Gunkan Suship Shari. That is, until the theme received a new monster in the form of Gunkan Suship Shari Red, which treats itself as Shari in the hand, Deck, GY, or field! The strategy of this archetype is to Xyz Summon ships of war, whether that means you need to pull out your Gunkan Suship Uni-class Super-Dreadnought to negate the effects of face-up cards, Gunkan Suship Shirauo-class Carrier to tutor a Gunkan Spell/Trap, or Gunkan Suship Ikura-class Dreadnought to destroy cards. Gathering the materials to make theses Sushi-Ships has never been easier, as you can now turn to their new Continuous Spell, Gunkan Suship Catch-of-the-Day, which lets you reveal a monster from your Extra Deck for your opponent to identify a Gunkan Suship monster named on a Gunkan Suship Extra Deck monster. If they don’t remember the name, they might just have to give you the one you revealed… or is that all mind games to encourage your opponent to name something else? No one will every really know.
Anyways, a quick word about the second theme present in this build, the Adventurer engine. Despite being significantly more commonplace a few years back, the Adventurer engine is still great with the Suship in order to add a bit more disruption and utility to an otherwise straightforward archetype. Rite of Aramesir can be activated to place Fateful Adventure on your board, then you can tutor options like Wandering Gryphon Rider to give yourself another omni-negate going into your opponent’s turn. The other benefit to running these themes together is the sheer amount of Small World bridges that exist – this Spell can pretty much search any monster in your entire deck just by having another monster in hand, and that is especially true after you factor in the Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju, Lava Golem, and the various hand traps employed today. Sail the seas and eat your Sushi, with the Gunkan Suship archetype!
