Strategic Summary:
Welcome back for a special CDP, this time featuring the Gem-Knight support cards revealed earlier in the week from Terminal World 2. If you missed our coverage of them on the site, be sure to check those out here: https://ygorganization.com/theadolescenceofgemknight/ . To feature these new cards in all of their glory, I decided to enhance one of my prior builds that combined Gem-Knight and Volcanics, so feel free to check out the old version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhbfY-oJWxM
Now that you’re back, let’s talk about the theme’s 4 new cards. First up is Gem-Knight Master Diamond Dispersion (YGOrg Translation), a new Level 9 Rock Fusion. This Fusion is made with any 3 Gem- monsters, and it can send itself to the GY during either Main Phase to Special Summon up to 3 non-Rock Gem- monsters from your Extra Deck and/or GY. In short, this turns into Gem-Knight Seraphinite, Gem-Knight Citrine, and Gem-Knight Lady Rose Diamond, at minimal cost, and quite frankly, this is AMAZING for the deck. This floods the field with Fusion Material at worst, or at best, fills the field to maximize the burn damage from a Gem-Knight Lady Lapis Lazuli, which we’ll touch base with later. The second new card ensures access to this new fusion, and that’s Gem-Knight Dispersion (YGOrg Translation). It offers two effects, the first letting you Fusion Summon a Gem-Knight (including 2 non-Rock material from your Deck or Extra Deck if Gem-Knight Fusion is in the GY) and the second letting you tutor a Gem- card and halving your effect damage for the rest of the phase. This second effect should be avoided in an FTK build like this, but it still -can- be useful if you don’t draw into an FTK route.
Moving onto the Main Deck monsters, we have Gem-Knight Hollowcore (YGOrg Translation), a new Level 7 DARK Fiend that can Special Summon itself by sending a Gem-Knight Fusion or Gem-Knight Normal Monster from the Deck to the GY. Once it reaches the GY, it protects your cards from disruption by banishing itself and 2 other Gem-Knight cards to negate an opponent’s activated card or effect. Lastly, we have Gem-Knight Nepyrim (YGOrg Translation), a Level 4 LIGHT Fairy that can Special Summon itself if sent from the hand or Deck to the GY, has an ignition effect to Normal Summon a Gem- monster, and can tutor a Gem-Knight card at the cost of halving damage the rest of the Phase. That first effect I mentioned works extremely well with Gem-Knight Obsidian and Gem-Knight Lazuli, but ultimately it is just a great option to use as Fusion Material from the deck for Dispersion.
Alright, now that you’ve met the new cards, let’s talk about how the supporting archetypes factor into today’s build. First up is the Primite, a group of support cards for Normal Monsters. In particular, Primite Roar Special Summons your Gem-Knight Garnet from the deck at the cost of 2000LP, giving you material to work with. And that’s pretty much it, yeah. This is great for the deck, as the more material you have to work with, the better your chances of pulling off the FTK (or OTK if you are forced into going 2nd). Instead of just giving material, the Volcanic engine here is included to directly assist in the FTK itself, with Volcanic Trooper being a Level 3 Pyro that tutors your Volcanic Emperor to deal a death blow after two resolutions of Lady Lapis Lazuli. Isn’t it great that any 2 Level 4 Monsters (like Garnet or Gem-Armadillo) can turn into Infernal Flame Banshee to grab Trooper out of the deck? Plus, you’ll even have an additional Normal Summon for it due to the effect of a Seraphinite you summoned with Diamond Dispersion! And if that isn’t enough to win you the duel, Emperor’s burn damage combined with Volcanic Emission certainly will!
While my take is clearly hyper focused on ensuring the FTK goes off successfully, hopefully this snapshot into the new Gem-Knight support gives you some ideas for what’s possible, even if you had dismissed the FTK build after seeing the two halve-damage side effects! Burn On!
