Strategic Summary:
Today’s CDP features the return of the Earthbound archetype to my channel, this time bringing the new support cards from 24PP into the mix. Anyways, today’s build introduces a few new key tech cards, as well as adding two additional engines to flesh out the strategy. Kicking things off, we have their new Quick-Play Spell – Earthbound Fusion (YGOrg Translation), which lets you Fusion Summon any DARK monster. More importantly, it can be banished from the GY while a card is in the Field Zone to Special Summon any Earthbound monster from the hand or GY. This serves as an important extender for the theme, especially if you Fusion Summon Earthbound Servant Geo Gremlina and tutor an Earthbound monster. Next up, we have two additional Trap Cards, Earthbound Release (YGOrg Translation) and Earthbound Resonance (YGOrg Translation). Both are highly situational cards, but they each destroy cards, tacking on effect damage based on the ATK of what you destroy. This was already one of the identities of the archetype, as each Extra Deck monster for the theme carries one, the other, or both, so it’s nice to see that reflected. Finally, I also took the time to introduce a new non-Tuner to the mix, Red Lotus King, Flame Crime (YGOrg Translation), as it synergizes with Fiend Tuners, as well as sending a Normal Trap to the GY when used as Synchro Material. In today’s case, we’re pairing that with Rumpel Teufel (YGOrg Translation) to lock your opponent out of activating the effects of one named Monster Card for the turn!
Now that we’ve covered the new Earthbounds, let’s talk about the additional engines in play today, and first up is the World Chalice. In the January 2024 list, Ib the World Chalice Justicar was released, entering the game once more. This is an important Synchro Monster for the Earthbound theme, as it is one of the few Synchro Monsters that can tutor a Field Spell on Summon. This is important for the synergy with Earthbound Greater Linewalker, which gives you an opportunity to tutor an Earthbound Imortal Ccapac Apu, set your opponent’s LP to 3000, then let it attack directly for game. But even better, Ib is a Synchro Tuner that summons an additional non-Tuner material when sent to the GY, letting you chain even more summons off of a few plays. The other key theme at play today is the Resonators, as Vision Resonator serves both as an extender, but also a Level 2 DARK Fiend Tuner that can enable the Synchro Summon of your Earthbound Synchros. It also is easily accessed by Crimson Gaia, giving you the additional consistency you need to find success. Unleash destruction on your opponent with the unchained power of the Earthbound Prisoners!
