I wonder how he even obtained them. Maybe from some unofficial underground fighting ring. I tried making the background of the monster card look like a cut-in scene from a videogame.”

“I drew it in such a way that, while it keeps some Yu-Gi-Oh dragon-ness in its head and other parts, it also gives an impression of a last boss. Because there are lots of human characters among the ‘Vanquish Soul’, I figured Caesar Valius could be seen like a weirdo from its appearance. However, I enjoy drawing quirky characters.”

TL note: The term used for its appearance is 色物 (iromono), which is a secondary role to the main act, for purposes of decoration/spicing up. “Irregular” or “unorthodox” could also be valid translations. Basically, this would be a non-human looking character that looks out of place among a majority-human cast, like Blanka from Street Fighter.

TL note: 龍帝 (ryuutei) means “Dragon Emperor”, and it’s part of the name of Caesar Valius’ jp name (force-read as “Caesar”).
