I didn’t fail! This was just another step in my master plan!

It has been a while since the last time an FTK was covered, but this time it’s a big treat for the Umbral Horror FTK that has become possible through the new support wave from Beyond the Brave and the new Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon – Photon Howling that can be found in the Magnificent Maestro booster set releasing this November. A few Diligent players have been testing the new Umbral Horror cards from Beyond the Brave, and thanks to their efforts a new FTK has arrived on the spot just a day after the reveal of these cards. Using a way to Rank-Up their Xyz Monsters all the way from the new Number 104: Masquerade Vain (YGOrganization Translation) to the almighty Number C9: Chaos Dyson Sphere to burn for a total of 8800 damage.

After looking at that FTK, we will look at a different FTK for Umbral Horror that deals with burning the opponent with the Seventh Barian’s Field Spell, Number C39: Utopia Ray V, and Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade to inflict a total of 8600 LP to the opponent.

The Important Cards to the first FTK

The game finisher happens to be Number C9: Dyson Sphere, as you Xyz Summon other Xyz Monsters throughout the combo by Ranking Up from a simple Rank 4 Monster to this Rank 10 Behemoth. Being the main reason that this combo deals 8800 Damage with the two effects it has. Special thanks to the new Barian’s Hope Spell Card: you can attach a copy of Number 9: Dyson Sphere straight from your Extra Deck as a material to any of the Xyz Monsters within the Rank-Up Chain.

Performage Shadow Maker is another important card within this combo, as by detaching 1 material and sending a Performage monster from your Deck to the GY, you can search Rank-Up-Magic Argent Chaos Force to help set up the end pieces of your combos. This card is Xyz Summoned to your field with Tellarknight Ptolemaeus’s effect to detach 3 materials from it.

Finally, once again, Rank-Up-Magic Argent Chaos Force is one of the important cards to this FTK. You Rank Up a copy of Galaxy-Eyes Antimatter Dragon into the Number C9: Chaos Dyson Sphere. Even though you only use Rank-Up-Magic Argent Chaos Force once, it could be used multiple times if needed, depending on the situation you’re in.

    The First Turn Kill #1

This FTK only needs 1 Thousand Umbral Horror and 1 other card to discard. This is a step-by-step guide on how to achieve this FTK.

    1. Activate the effect of Thousand Umbral Horror in your hand, sending it from your hand to the GY to place 1 Seventh Barian’s from your Deck to your Field Zone face-up.
    2. Activate the on field effect of Seventh Barian’s to add from your Deck to your hand to your hand a copy of Gorgonic Umbral Horror, then discard 1 card.
    3. Activate the hand effect of Gorgonic Umbral Horror to Special Summon itself from your hand, then add a copy of V Umbral Horror from your Deck to your hand.
    4. Normal Summon V Umbral Horror and activate its effect to add Shining Umbral Horror from your Deck to your hand.
    5. Overlay both Gorgonic Umbral Horror and V Umbral Horror you control to Xyz Summon Number 104: Masquerade Vain.
    6. Chain Link 1: Activate the effect of Thousand Umbral Horror in the GY, since you Special Summon an Xyz Monster, to Special Summon this card from your GY. Chain Link 2: Activate Shining Umbral Horror’s Effect in your hand to Special Summon itself, then Draw 1 card.
    7. Activate the effect of Number 104: Masquerade Vain to detach V Umbral Horror to search for a copy of Barian’s Hope.
    8. Activate Barian’s Hope to Special Summon the copy of V Umbral Horror you just detached from Masquerade Vain.
    9. Overlay all three Thousand Umbral Horror, Shining Umbral Horror, and V Umbral Horror into a copy of Tellarknight Ptolemaeus.
    10. Activate the effect of Tellarknight Ptolemaeus by detaching all 3 materials to Rank-Up into a copy of Performage Shadow Maker.
    11. Use the effect of Performage Shadow Maker to detach 1 material from this card, and send a copy of Performage Trick Clown, or any Performage Monster of your choice, from your Deck to the GY, to add a copy of Rank-Up Magic Argent Chaos Force.
    12. Use the GY effect of Barian’s Hope in the GY, to banish itself, and target Number 104: Masquerade Vain to attach a copy of Number 9: Dyson Sphere to it as a material.
    13. Activate the effect of V Umbral Horror from your GY, by banishing it, then target the Number 104: Masquerade Vain you control, and Rank-Up into a copy of Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade.
    14. Chain 1: Use the effect of Number 104 Masquerade Vain when used as a material for an Xyz Summon to banish either 4 monsters with different attributes and 1 Spell from your Opponents Deck, but if they can’t you banish the top 10 cards of their Deck face-up. Chain 2: Use the effect of Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade to target and destroy 1 Spell/Trap on the field. This allows you to target the copy of Seventh Barian’s you control to remove it from the field.
    15. Xyz Summon into a copy of CXyz Barian Hope using your Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade on your field. This card can be Xyz Summoned once per turn using 1 monster you control with Number C101 to C107 in its name.
    16. Xyz Summon into a copy of Dark Ceruvim Irisfil using your CXyz Barian Hope on your field. This card can be Xyz Summoned once per turn using 1 Xyz Monster you control that didn’t activate its effects this turn.
    17. Xyz Summon into a copy of Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon – Photon Howling using the copy of Dark Ceruvim Irisfil on your field. This card can be Xyz Summoned once per turn using 1 Rank 8 Xyz Monster you control.
    18. Xyz Summon into a copy of Galaxy-Eyes Antimatter Dragon using the copy of Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon – Photon Howling on your field. This card can be Xyz Summoned once per turn using 1 Xyz Monster you control with 3 or more materials.
    19. Activate Rank-Up-Magic Argent Chaos force targeting Galaxy-Eyes Antimatter Dragon to Rank-Up into a copy of Number C9: Chaos Dyson Sphere.
    20. Activate the first effect of Number C9: Chaos Dyson Sphere to inflict damage to your opponent x300 equal to the amount of Xyz Materials this card has.
    21. Activate the second effect of Number C9: Chaos Dyson Sphere, since it has Number 9: Dyson Sphere as a material, to detach any number of Xyz Materials from this card to inflict 800 damage to your opponent for each card detached.

This combo will deal 8800 LP of damage to the opponents Life Points, ending the game.

    Questions and Answers #1

How consistent is the current version of the FTK?

Judging by the replays seen for this FTK, it is possible with 1 single card in your hand and an additional discard, having many different ways to search for a copy of Seventh Barian’s and Thousand Umbral Horror. Super consistent and can surprise players if they aren’t ready for this style of FTK.

What is the main card that makes this FTK possible?

There isn’t a main card in this FTK, but the card that always comes up within these FTKs themselves is Rank-Up-Magic Argent Chaos Force, as it’s the main piece that allows you to Rank Up from Galaxy-Eyes Antimatter Dragon to Number C9: Chaos Dyson Sphere to deal the damage needed to end the game. Performage Shadow Maker is the main reason why Argent Chaos Force is searchable within this version of the FTK.

What are some of the best options to shutdown this FTK?

Nibiru, the Primal Being, is one of the easiest answers to this FTK, as you can use it on the Xyz Summon of Galaxy-Eyes Antimatter Dragon. Using Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit on the ignition effect of Seventh Barian’s to add 1 Umbral Horror monster from your Deck to your hand shuts down the search; it also works with Veidos, the Eruption Dragon of Extinction, as well, to target and destroy the Seventh Barian’s, removing the problem off the field immediately.

When is this combo most useful in matches?

It’s either used as a surprise for Game 1, or if the opponent opens no interaction like Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Droll & Lock Bird, Nibiru, the Primal Being, or similarly used cards, this can consistently FTK every game.

The Important Cards to the 2nd FTK

Being vastly different from the first FTK, not focusing on Xyz Summoning Number C9: Chaos Dyson Sphere, this version focuses on using Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade to halve the opponent’s Life Points, to then use a combination of Number C39: Utopia Ray V and Seventh’s Barian to deal the rest of the damage at the end of the combo and turn.

The Rank-Up-Magic used in this build is not Rank-Up-Magic Argent Chaos Force but is Rank-Up-Magic Limited Barian’s Force. This allows you to Rank Up your Number 39: Utopia Rising into a copy of Number C39: Utopia Ray V to destroy the copy of Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Primal you give to the opponent to inflict an additional 3000 LPs, next to the halving of the LPs of the opponent with Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade.

    The First Turn Kill #2

This FTK only needs 1 copy of V Umbral Horror to achieve this FTK.

    1. Normal Summon V Umbral Horror and activate its effect to search a copy of Gorgonic Umbral Horror from your Deck to your hand.
    2. Activate the effect of Gorgonic Umbral Horror in your hand to Special Summon itself, then add a copy of Thousand Umbral Horror from your Deck to your hand.
    3. Overlay both V Umbral Horror and Gorgonic Umbral Horror to Xyz Summon Number 104: Masquerade Vain to your Extra Monster Zone.
    4. Activate the effect of Number 104: Masquerade Vain, detaching the copy of V Umbral Horror to add from your Deck to your hand Barian’s Seal.
    5. Use the copy of Number 104: Masquerade Vain on your field and use it to Xyz Summon Xyz Armor Fortress from your Extra Deck.
    6. On the Xyz Summon of Xyz Armor Fortress, trigger the effect of Number 104: Masquerade Vain, as when a monster uses this card on the field as a material for its Xyz Summon, you make your opponent banish 4 monsters with different attributes and 1 Spell from their Deck, or you banish the top 10 cards of their Deck.
    7. Activate Xyz Armor Fortress’s effect, detaching the copy of Number 104: Masquerade Vain, to add a copy of Full Armored Xyz from your Deck to your hand.
    8. Activate Thousand Umbral Horror in your hand, to discard itself, and place a copy of Seventh Barian’s to your field.
    9. Activate the effect of Seventh’s Barian’s to add a copy of Shining Umbral Horror from your Deck to your hand, then discard Barian’s Seal.
    10. Activate Barian’s Seals GY effect, by banishing it, to Special Summon both Thousand Umbral Horror and V Umbral Horror from your GY to your field.
    11. This will trigger the effect of Shining Umbral Horror’s effect in your hand, to Special Summon it to your field, to then, Draw 1 card.
    12. Overlay both V Umbral Horror and Shining Umbral Horror to Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia Rising.
    13. Use the effect of Number 39: Utopia Rising, when its Special Summoned, to target Number 104: Masquerade Vain in your GY and Special Summon it to your field, then all materials are attached to Masquerade Vain from Utopia Rising.
    14. Activate the effect of Number 104: Masquerade Vain by detaching V Umbral Horror to add a copy of Barian’s Hope from your Deck to your hand.
    15. Activate Barian’s Hope to Special Summon V Umbral Horror from your GY.
    16. Overlay both V Umbral Horror and Thousand Umbral Horror to Xyz Summon a copy of Galaxy Photon Dragon.
    17. Activate the effect of Galaxy Photon Dragon by detaching a V Umbral Horror from it to add a copy of Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Primal from your Deck to your hand.
    18. Activate the effect of V Umbral Horror in the GY to banish itself and targeting Number 104: Masquerade Vain to Rank-Up into Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade.
    19. Activate and banish the copy of Barian’s Hope in your GY, to target your Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade, then attach a copy of Number 104: Masquerade from your Extra to it as an Xyz Material.
    20. Activate the effect of Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Primal in your hand, to Special Summon it to your opponent’s field.
    21. This triggers Tachyon Primal’s mandatory effect Chain Link 1 to attempt to add 1 Tachyon Spell/Trap from their Deck to their hand, then Chain Link 2 activate Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade, as it has Number 104: Masquerade as material to detach 1 material from this card, to negate the activation of Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Primal, to then discard 1 random card from your opponents hand to the GY, and then if you do that, halve your opponent’s LPs, this makes their LPs 4000.
    22. Use the copy of Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade on your field and use it to Xyz Summon CXyz Barian Hope from your Extra Deck.
    23. Activate CXyz Barian Hope’s effect to target the copy of Number 104: Masquerade Vain in your GY, to copy its effects, then activate its effect detaching 1 material from this card to search a copy of Rank-Up-Magic Limited Barian’s Force.
    24. Activate Rank-Up-Magic Limited Barian’s Force, targeting the copy of Number 39: Utopia Rising on your field to Rank-Up into a copy of Number C39: Utopia Ray V from your Extra Deck.
    25. Activate the effect of Number C39: Utopia Ray V, since you have a Utopia monster as an Xyz Material, by detaching 1 material from itself to target 1 monster your opponent controls, being the Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Primal to destroy it, then inflict damage to your opponent equal to the destroy monster’s ATK while it was on the field, dealing 3000 Damage.
    26. Finally, enter the End Phase and Seventh Barian’s triggers to inflict damage to each player per each Xyz Monster on the field x400, dealing 1600 damage, finishing the game.

This combo will deal 8600 LP of damage to the opponents Life Points, ending the game.

    Questions and Answers #2

How consistent is the current version of the FTK?

For this version of the FTK, it’s extremely consistent, as you just need a copy of V Umbral Horror, which is extremely searchable within the Deck itself.

What is the main card that makes this FTK possible?

Being able to halve the opponent’s Life Points off the simple negation of Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade makes this FTK possible, as do cards like Seventh’s Barian and Number C39: Utopia Ray V, who deal the rest of the damage needed.

What are some of the best options to shutdown this FTK?

Droll & Lock Bird can be used to halt any kind of searching that is important against this matchup; a well-timed Nibiru, the Primal Being, cleans up the board to halt any advances to the main end board of the FTK. Like the previous FTK cards like Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit and Veidos, the Eruption Dragon of Extinction does heavy lifting against Seventh’s Barian when needed.

When is this combo most useful in matches?

It’s either used as a surprise for Game 1, to trip up the opponent, or in Game 2 or 3, the player will be more focused on the floodgate-like cards.

This strategy could even be done by sliding into it during Game 3, to make the opponent either lose their footing if they weren’t expecting it or not draw anything to prevent a combo like this.

    The Conclusion

We’ve entered the part of the year where Konami is pulling out all the punches for older characters who didn’t have a full deck before. From old strategies becoming meta again to reviving themes that haven’t had support for some time, even if there are plenty of FTKs that are being discovered each day and each new reveal, the future is brighter. Just like the Mitsurugi and Power Patron FTK, even though they can be stopped, they will appear and happen at events at the most random of times that can ruin anyone’s tournament run.
