Agreed, they should’ve gotten at least one card banned. Why ban number 67, though? As far as I know, no one uses that card.
Toxic combo in Vanquish Soul + K9 that lets you use it very easily.
Seems like Number 67 got banned for the same reason that got Calamaties, Rongo Bongo, Azathot and Utopic Zexal banned.
old ass cards should not even exist in modern
The problem is not due to cards being old. It has to do with how the cards are usually designed. Tornado Dragon and Ardreus Keeper of Armageddon are also very old cards, but they don’t end up with major design issues like with Shock Master, Azathot, Lavalval Chain, MX Saber Invoker, Beatrice, Bahamut Shark or Pair a Dice Smasher.
Number 67 is just legitimately overpowered. People didn’t figure it out because they assumed a dice roll card would be bad.
Shining Sarcophagus is OP. It can setup a monster lockdown, extra deck lockdown, and 4 negates including a disruption all in 1 turn. Magia, Illusion of Chaos loop, Dragoon/Timaeus, Dragon Knight lock, and/or Buster Blader lock are usually the end board pieces.
