More places than just your library or inside your heart.
Let’s talk about where and when you can play Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Genesys!
Past
If you’re one of the almost 700 unique Duelists who played the revised Rivalry of Warlords Decks at the North American WCQ in July – SURPRISE! – you’ve played Genesys already! Each of those Decks was Genesys-compatible, and that’s also why some of them surprised people with their multiple copies of cards like Pot of Greed and Graceful Charity, which is something that Genesys lets you do. So if you were there in Indianapolis, grats, you were first!
Present
Your local Official Tournament Store can run sanctioned Genesys events, starting this week. They can set the point cap at the default 100 points, or customize it to zero, 50, 200, or any number they or you’d like. It’s up to the store’s choice to run events with whatever point caps they want, so let them know what you want to see!
Future
The first big Genesys events are coming in a couple weeks, with the Genesys Invitationals at YCS tournaments.
Each Genesys Invitational will have qualifiers on Saturday, and finals on Sunday. All day long on Saturday, we’ll be running 16-player single-elimination flights, with a 100-point Deck-building cap.
- 1st and 2nd place in each flight get an exclusive new stitched-edge Game Mat that uses the old retro Dueling Field (before the Pendulum & Extra Monster Zones were added).
- 1st and 2nd place in each flight each get a spot in the Invitational finals on Sunday.
- 1st place in each flight gets a card of their choice from the Starlight Selection we’re bringing along, a briefcase of Starlight Rares plucked from prior booster sets.
The Sunday finals will be one big single-elimination tournament, also with a 100-point Deck-building cap, for everyone who qualified on Saturday.
- 1st place gets an authentic 2009 Ultra Rare SJC Prize Card Dark End Dragon. NOT a reprint! NOT a replica! An actual prize card that’s been sitting in the vault for 16 years!
- 1st place also gets a Pot of Greed Super Rare GIANT CARD!!
- 2nd through 4th place each get a Super Rare Oversized Card
- Additional prizes for Top 8 and Top 16

There is no way right? These dark end dragons were designated for edison and they just repurposed them 100% LOL
Time Wizard molestation will continue until morale improves.
I guess Genesys is to test if past banned cards are still problematic
As someone who was one of those first players at WCQ Indy, the overwhelming majority of people playing didn’t like it because of the format, they liked it because you could sit down with a preconstructed deck against other relatively balanced preconstructed decks, and you didn’t have to do any sort of deck building yourself. That was the whole point of Rivalry of Warlords, and taking the best part of that away completely kills the hype for me.
The most annoying guy at your locals is going to turn up with an official playmat with no pend zones or EMZs and go on about “this is how Yugioh is supposed to be played’
Prize card should be blood mefist
