The ol’ End Phase standoff.
“If a face-down monster targeted by the effect of Lightning Chidori is face-up when the effect resolves, will it be returned to the bottom of the Deck?”
Q: If Ceasefire is chained to the first effect of Lightning Chidori, and the face-down Defense Position monster targeted by the effect is in face-up Defense Position when the effect resolves, will that monster be returned to the bottom of the Deck?
A: If a face-down Defense Position monster targeted by the effect of Lightning Chidori is in face-up Defense Position when the effect resolves, the effect is not applied. (The targeted monster does not return to the bottom of the Deck, and remains on the field.)
The same applies if the targeted card is face-up when any of the following effects resolve:
– The first “●” effect of Ally of Justice Decisive Armor
– Daigusto Eguls
– Traptrix Mantis
– Chow Len the Prophet
– Atlantean Marksman
– Shogi Knight
– Red Dragon Ninja
– Wind-Up Snail
– Lightray Diabolos
– Laval Lakeside Lady
– Uria, Lord of Searing Flames
– Granmarg the Rock Monarch
– Goddess Urd’s Verdict
– Night Beam
– Dark World Lightning
– Nobleman of Extermination
– Bait Doll
– Trickstar Light Stage
“If the effect a monster gained from Ryu-Ge Ascension Gate of Serpentfall is activated, but that Ryu-Ge Ascension Gate of Serpentfall leaves the field, will the effect be applied?”
Q: While I have Ryu-Ge Ascension Gate of Serpentfall in my Spell & Trap Zone, I activate the gained “●” effect of Guangba, Luminous Ryu-Ge of Starforge by placing that Ryu-Ge Ascension Gate of Serpentfall on the bottom of my Deck. In this case, although Ryu-Ge Ascension Gate of Serpentfall is no longer in the Spell & Trap Zone when the effect resolves, is the effect still applied?
A: It will apply. If you activate the “●” effects gained from any of the following cards but that card is not in the Spell & Trap Zone when the effect resolves, it is still applied normally.
– Ryu-Ge Ascension Gate of Dinocrag
– Ryu-Ge Ascension Gate of Wyrmhaze
– The Weather Rainy Canvas
– The Weather Cloudy Canvas
– The Weather Sunny Canvas
– The Weather Snowy Canvas
– The Weather Auroral Canvas
– The Weather Thundery Canvas
– The Weather Rainbowed Canvas
“What happens if an effect stating monsters cannot target other monsters for attacks, and an effect stating monsters must attack a specific monster, are both applying?”
Q: I have Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax and a “Yubel” monster face-up in my Monster Zone. In this situation, if the effect of Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax that states “your opponent cannot target this card with card effects, also their monsters cannot target monsters for attacks, except this one” is applying, and the effect of my Nightmare Pain that states “your opponent’s monsters that can attack must attack “Yubel” monsters” is also applying, which monsters will my opponent’s monsters attack?
A: They must attack a “Yubel” monster.
Other examples of effects that prevent monsters from targeting other monsters for attacks include the following:
– Belial – Marquis of Darkness
– Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder
– Marauding Captain
– Dupe Frog
– Mermail Abysslung
– Moremarshmallon
– Dinowrestler Chimera T Wrextle
– Dinowrestler Giga Spinosavate
– Protocol Gardna
– The Seal of Orichalcos
– Maliss In Underground
– Trickstar Diffusion
Other examples of effects that make monsters attack specific monsters include the following:
– Evil HERO Malicious Fiend
– G Golem Invalid Dolmen
– G Golem Dignified Trilithon
– Heavenly Gate of the Mikanko
– Zoma the Earthbound Spirit
– Mementotlan Cranium Burst
– Terra Firma Gravity
– Staunch Defender
“If there are multiple actions that need to be performed during the Standby Phase or End Phase, is there a rule regarding the order in which they must be performed?”
Q: If there are multiple effects that need to be performed during the Standby Phase or End Phase, or if each player has cards that need to pay a cost or activate an effect, are there any rules regarding the order in which those actions are performed?
A: Since the turn player has priority at the beginning of each phase, the turn player can activate or apply an action first. If there are multiple actions they wish to perform, they can activate/apply them in any order they choose.
Next, if the turn player passes priority to their opponent, their opponent can activate/apply their actions in any order they choose. After that, if there is an action that must be performed after each player has passes priority, the turn player must perform that action first. Also, if there is an action that can be performed optionally even after all mandatory actions have been performed, the player with priority can activate/apply them first.
Example:
During your own turn, there is an Albion the Branded Dragon in your GY that was sent there this turn, and your opponent’s S:P Little Knight was banished by its effect this turn. During the End Phase of this turn, you as the turn player have priority, so you must decide whether or not to activate the effect of Albion the Branded Dragon first. If you do not activate it at this point, tell your opponent and pass priority to them.
Next, your opponent has priority, so they must decide whether or not to return S:P Little Knight to the field. In this case, your opponent can also waive their priority and tell you that they will not return S:P Little Knight to the field yet.
In that case, you will once again have priority and must decide whether or not to activate the effect of Albion the Branded Dragon. Since the effect of Albion the Branded Dragon is not mandatory to activate, you can waive your priority again and decide not to activate its effect. If you do that, your opponent will once again have priority, and they will need to return S:P Little Knight to the field at this point since it is a mandatory action. After that, when priority returns to you again, you can still activate the effect of Albion the Branded Dragon.
“If Subterror Final Battle is activated by chaining it to the effect of Trickstar Light Stage that targeted it, what happens?”
Q: I activated the effect of Trickstar Light Stage targeting a Set Subterror Final Battle in my opponent’s Spell & Trap Zone, and my opponent chained and activated that targeted Subterror Final Battle. In this case, what happens during the End Phase?
A: Your opponent sends Subterror Final Battle to the GY. If a Subterror Final Battle that was targeted with the effect of Trickstar Light Stage is chained to that effect and then Set after it resolves, it is still considered the target of Trickstar Light Stage’s effect.
Similarly, if you activated Subterror Final Battle on the same Chain as any of the following effects that targeted it, and it was then Set by its effect, it is still considered the target for these effects.
– The first “●” effect of Ally of Justice Decisive Armor
– Daigusto Eguls
– Lightning Chidori
– Traptrix Mantis
– Atlantean Marksman
– Shogi Knight
– Chow Len the Prophet
– Red Dragon Ninja
– Wind-Up Snail
– Lightray Diabolos
– Laval Lakeside Lady
– Uria, Lord of Searing Flames
– Granmarg the Rock Monarch
– Goddess Urd’s Verdict
– Noble Arms – Arfeudutyr
– Night Beam
– Dark World Lightning
– Nobleman of Extermination
– Bait Doll
Note: This is a reversal; previously Subterror Final Battle would no longer be treated as the card targeted by Trickstar Light Stage, and the effect would not apply to it.
“Can a monster that can attack all monsters the opponent controls once each perform a direct attack and an attack on a monster during the same turn?”
Q:
(A) My opponent only controls 1 monster. When my Mementoal Tecuhtlica – Combined Creation declares its first attack, if another effect is activated that makes my opponent’s monster leave the field, causing a replay, can Mementoal Tecuhtlica – Combined Creation attack my opponent directly?
(B) During the turn my Mementoal Tecuhtlica – Combined Creation attacks directly and conducts damage calculation, a monster is Special Summoned to my opponent’s field by another effect. In this case, can Mementoal Tecuhtlica – Combined Creation attack that monster?
(C) During the turn my Mementoal Tecuhtlica – Combined Creation battles an opponent’s monster with its first attack, can it attack directly with a second attack?
(D) My opponent controls 2 monsters. When I declared a direct attack with my Mementoal Tecuhtlica – Combined Creation equipped with Shooting Star Bow – Ceal, which allows it to attack directly even if my opponent controls monsters, another effect is activated that destroys Shooting Star Bow – Ceal. When the replay occurs as a result, and I attack and battle one of my opponent’s monsters, can Mementoal Tecuhtlica – Combined Creation still attack the second monster due to its effect?
A:
(A) It can attack directly. However, if Mementoal Tecuhtlica – Combined Creation has attacked and battled another monster that turn, it can no longer attack directly, so the battle ends.
(B) Since a direct attack was declared and damage calculation was performed, it cannot attack a monster.
(C) It cannot attack directly.
(D) It cannot attack the second monster. Mementoal Tecuhtlica – Combined Creation already declared a direct attack, so even if a replay occurs and you change the attack target to a monster, it will not be able to attack other monsters using its effect.
The following are further examples of monsters with effects that allow them to attack monsters multiple times:
– Asura Priest
– Ultimate Conductor Tyranno
– Drytron Meteonis Draconids
– Deskbot 008
– Chimeratech Overdragon
– Lunalight Cat Dancer
– Lunalight Panther Dancer
– Ancient Gear Chaos Giant
– Tyrant Burst Dragon
– Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon
– Blue-Eyes Tyrant Dragon
– Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Juggernaut Liebe
– Number C62: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Eyes Prime Photon Dragon
– Number C107: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon
– Borrelend Dragon
– Monsters with the monster effect of Performapal Kaleidoscorp applied to them
– Monsters with the effect of End-Exalting Morganite applied to them
– “Purrely” Xyz Monsters that have Purrely Happy Memory as an Xyz Material
“Can I banish a Token face-down?”
Q: If I activate the first effect of Chaos Scepter Blast, can I choose a Token when it resolves? Also, if I activate the third effect of Kashtira Arise-Heart, can I target a Token?
A: Tokens cannot be banished face-down, so you cannot choose a Token as the card to banish when resolving the effect of Chaos Scepter Blast.
Furthermore, the effect of Kashtira Arise-Heart cannot be activated by targeting a Token. Similarly, the following effects cannot be activated by targeting a Token.
– The third effect of Kashtira Fenrir
– The first effect of PSY-Frame Overload
“If I Special Summon Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon using the method written in its text, can I activate the effect of Pendulum Dimension?”
Q: If I have a face-up Pendulum Dimension in my Spell & Trap Zone, and I Special Summon Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon by Tributing 1 DARK Dragon monster and 1 Beast monster, can I activate the effect of Pendulum Dimension?
A: Yes, you can. (You can apply the “● Fusion” effect.) A Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon Special Summoned by the method written in its text is not treated as having been Fusion Summoned, but the monsters Tributed for the Special Summon are still considered Fusion Materials.
You can also activate the effect of Pendulum Dimension if you Tribute Pendulum Monsters for the Special Summons of any of the following monsters:
– Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom
– Odd-Eyes Arcray Dragon
“What happens if there are no available Pendulum Zones when resolving the second monster effect of Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon?”
Q: I activated the effect of Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon that was destroyed by my opponent and added face-up to my Extra Deck, while having 1 available Pendulum Zone. At this time, I chain the effect of Pendulum Switch and place a Pendulum Monster I control into my unused Pendulum Zone, leaving me without any available Pendulum Zones. In this case, what happens to Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon?
A: If there are no available Pendulum Zones to place it in, that Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon is sent from the Extra Deck to the GY. (It is not treated as being sent to the GY by a card effect.)
Furthermore, if an effect that states “any card sent to the GY is banished instead” is applying, the effect of Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon can be activated while it is banished. In that case, if you have no available Pendulum Zones to use when resolving its effect, the banished Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon returns to the GY.
The same applies when the following monster effects are activated but there are no more Pendulum Zones to place them in at the time of resolution:
Pendulum Monsters
– Disablaster the Negation Fortress
– Pendulum Witch
– Amazoness Golden Whip Master
– Amazoness Silver Sword Master
– Performapal Odd-Eyes Butler
– Performapal Odd-Eyes Valet
– Servant of Endymion
– Magister of Endymion
– Rain Bozu
– Supreme King Gate Infinity
– Supreme King Gate Zero
Fusion/Pendulum Monsters
– Odd-Eyes Arcray Dragon
– Supreme King Z-ARC
– Starving Venemy Dragon
– Starving Venemy Lethal Dose Dragon
– D/D/D Super Doom King Purple Armageddon
– Patissciel Couverture

– Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon Overlord
– Dark Anthelion Dragon
– Daidaratant the Ooze Giant
– Majespecter Draco Ryu
– D/D/D Super Doom King Dark Armageddon
“When the effect of End-Exalting Morganite is applying, what happens if Ohime the Manifested Mikanko or Lyrilusc – Recital Starling battle?”
Q: I activated End-Exalting Morganite, and during this Duel, the effect “If your monster battles an opponent’s monster, any battle damage it inflicts to your opponent is doubled” has been applied. In this situation, if the following monsters I control battle an opponent’s monster (with 3000 ATK), what happens to the battle damage?
(A) Ohime the Manifested Mikanko, whose effect states “your opponent takes any battle damage you would have taken from battles involving this card.”
(B) Lyrilusc – Recital Starling, whose effect states “battle damage you take from battles involving this Xyz Summoned card is also inflicted to your opponent.”
A:
(A) Only your opponent takes 3000 damage.
(B) Both players take 3000 damage.
The effect of End-Exalting Morganite only applies when your monsters inflict battle damage to your opponent, so it does not apply when battle damage is inflicted to your opponent by their own monsters due to the effects of your Ohime the Manifested Mikanko or Lyrilusc – Recital Starling.
“If I discard cards due to hand size limit a second time during the End Phase and discard a “Danger!” monster, can I activate its effect?”
Q: At the end of my turn, I have 7 cards in my hand, so I discard Danger! Nessie!. At this time, I activate and resolve the second effect of Danger! Nessie!, and have 7 cards in my hand again as a result, so I discard Danger! Bigfoot! to make my hand size 6 again. In this case, can the effect of the discarded Danger! Bigfoot! be activated?
A: No, it cannot be activated. After discarding cards so that you have 6 cards in your hand during the End Phase, you can only activate effects on the Chain immediately after that. Even if an effect meets its activation requirements after resolving that Chain, it cannot be activated.
The same applies to the following “Danger!” monsters:
– Danger! Chupacabra!
– Danger!? Jackalope?
– Danger! Thunderbird!
– Danger! Dogman!
– Danger! Mothman!
– Danger!? Tsuchinoko?
– Danger! Ogopogo!
“If I want to Special Summon a Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon from the GY with the effect of Enhanced Metalmorph, what is the cost I need to pay to activate it?”
Q: If I want to use the effect of Enhanced Metalmorph to Special Summon Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon from the GY, do I need to Tribute a Level 5 or higher Dragon monster as the cost?
A: If you want to Special Summon a Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon from the GY that has never been Special Summoned by the effect of Enhanced Metalmorph previously, you must Tribute a Level 5 or higher Dragon monster as the cost.
If you want to Special Summon Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon from the GY after it was Special Summoned by the effect of Enhanced Metalmorph previously and then sent to the GY, the monster you Tribute does not need to be a Level 5 or higher Dragon monster.
The same applies to Metalzoa X being Special Summoned from the GY by the effect of Enhanced Metalmorph that was activated by Tributing a Level 5 or higher Fiend monster.
“Can I Special Summon Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon using the effect of Red-Eyes Soul?”
Q: Can I Special Summon Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon with the second effect of Red-Eyes Soul?
A: No, you cannot. Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon states that it must first be Special Summoned with Enhanced Metalmorph activated by Tributing a Level 5 or higher Dragon monster, so as a general rule, it can only be Special Summoned that way when you are Special Summoning it from the hand or Deck.
Similarly, the following “Red-Eyes” monsters cannot be Special Summoned by the effect of Red-Eyes Soul:
– Red-Eyes Black Metal Dragon
– Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon
– Malefic Red-Eyes Black Dragon
– Red-Eyes Alternative Black Dragon
“Does the activation of a Continuous Spell/Trap or a Field Spell count as activating a card effect?”
Q: When my opponent activates a Field Spell, Continuous Spell, or Continuous Trap, can I chain the effect of Rayzeol Deadnader that destroys a card on the field?
A: Yes, you can. Activating a Spell/Trap Card counts as activating a card effect. This also applies to the activation of a Continuous Spell, Continuous Trap, or Field Spell that does not apply any effect at the time the card is activated.
Note: In the TCG, cards like this are usually written as “when a card or effect is activated”, so this question is largely avoided.
“If I Special Summon Raidraptor – Satellite Cannon Falcon with the effect of Rise Rank-Up-Magic Raidraptor’s Force, can I activate its first effect?”
Q: If I Special Summon Raidraptor – Satellite Cannon Falcon as an Xyz Summon using the effect of Rise Rank-Up-Magic Raidraptor’s Force, can I activate the effect of Raidraptor – Satellite Cannon Falcon that destroys all Spells/Traps my opponent controls?
A: The effect cannot be activated. If you Special Summon an Xyz Monster using Rise Rank-Up-Magic Raidraptor’s Force, that does not count as Xyz Summoning a monster using a “Raidraptor” monster as material.

lightning chidori ruling makes no sense and is bad for the game. now cards won’t ever resolve.
