July updates.
“What happens if the effect of Morphing Jar #2 is activated while the effect of Dark Simorgh is applying?”
Q: If the effect of my Morphing Jar #2 is activated while the effect of my opponent’s Dark Simorgh is applying, how will it resolve? Also, if the effect of my Morphing Jar #2 is activated while the effect of my Dark Simorgh is applying, how will it resolve?
A: In either case, Dark Simorgh is returned to the Deck by the effect of Morphing Jar #2, so the rest of the effect is applied normally. (As soon as Dark Simorgh is no longer face-up in the Monster Zone, its effect is no longer applied.)
However, if Dark Simorgh remains face-up in the Monster Zone due to the effect of Number 81: Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Super Dora having been applied to it, the opponent (from the perspective of Dark Simorgh’s controller) will still be unable to Set cards, so that player must excavate cards until they excavate the same number of monsters returned to their Deck, and send all their excavated cards to the GY. (The controller of Dark Simorgh proceeds with the effect normally.)
“If the first effect of Stardust Dragon cannot be applied, can its second effect be activated?”
Q: If the first effect of Stardust Dragon has its activation negated, or if the effect itself is negated, can I activate its second effect during the End Phase? Also, if the first effect of Stardust Dragon is changed to “Your opponent destroys 1 “Yubel” monster in their hand, Deck, or field” by the effect of Phantom of Yubel, can I activate its second effect during the End Phase?
A: In either case, the first effect of Stardust Dragon was not applied, so its second effect cannot be activated.
The same applies to the following effects:
– Stardust Warrior
– Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode
– Evilswarm Kerykeion
– Constellar Sombre
Also, the following effects are similar to the effect of Phantom of Yubel and can change an activated effect to another effect:
– Samsara D Lotus
– Grapha, Dragon Overlord of Dark World
– Artifact Durendal
– Number 75: Bamboozling Gossip Shadow
– Abyss Playhouse – Fantastic Theater
– Generaider Boss Room
– Dark World Brainwashing
– World Legacy’s Mind Meld
“What happens if a monster determined to be destroyed by battle with Evigishki Merrowgeist is later destroyed by a card effect?”
Q: My Evigishki Merrowgeist attacks my opponent’s face-down Defense Position Super-Nimble Mega Hamster, and due to damage calculation, it is determined that Super-Nimble Mega Hamster has been destroyed by battle. After damage calculation, I activate the effect of Evigishki Merrowgeist as Chain Link 1, and my opponent activates the effect of Super-Nimble Mega Hamster as Chain Link 2. If I activate Divine Wrath as Chain Link 3 at this time, what happens?
A: When Divine Wrath resolves, Super-Nimble Mega Hamster is destroyed and sent to the GY, so the effect of Evigishki Merrowgeist is not applied.
“If I chain an effect that states “negate the activation, and if you do, shuffle that card into the Deck” to the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, how does it resolve?”
Q: I discarded Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to activate its effect. If Rebirth of Parshath is chained to that effect, how does it resolve?
A: The activation of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring’s effect is negated, but it is not shuffled into the Deck. The effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring is activated in the hand, but it is discarded from the hand as its cost, so it is no longer in the hand from where the effect activated. In this case, the activation is negated, but Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring is not shuffled into the Deck, and a “Parshath” monster cannot be Special Summoned from the Deck/Extra Deck.
Similarly, if the following effects are chained to the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, the activation will be negated, but Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring will not be shuffled into the Deck because it is no longer in the place where its effect was activated from (the hand).
– Evigishki Neremanas
– Stall Turn
– Tearlaments Cryme
– Nine Pillars of Yang Zing
“If the Continuous Effect of Performage Trapeze Magician is applying, will the effect of Performage Damage Juggler that prevents battle damage once apply?”
Q: The Continuous Effect of Performage Trapeze Magician that states “You never take damage if the amount is less than or equal to this card’s ATK” is applying, and the effect of Performage Damage Juggler that states “reduce the next battle damage you would take this turn to 0” has also been activated. In this situation, if I were to take 1000 battle damage, what happens?
A: When calculating battle damage, the following effects are considered in this order to determine the damage.
01: Inflicts double battle damage.
02: Battle damage is taken by both players.
03: Battle damage you take is also inflicted to your opponent / your opponent takes any battle damage you would take instead.
04: Battle damage is treated as effect damage.
05: The player gains Life Points instead of taking battle damage.
06: Battle damage becomes 0.
07: Battle damage is halved.
08: Battle damage is doubled.
09: Battle damage becomes X (X being a predetermined value).
10: You do not take battle damage if it is more or less than X.
(However, if battle damage becomes 0 due to a “06” effect, none of the subsequent effects are applied.)
The effect of Performage Trapeze Magician is a “10” effect, and the effect of Performage Damage Juggler is a “06” effect. Therefore, the effect of Performage Damage Juggler is applied first. (The battle damage becomes 0.)
After that, for example, if you were to take 3000 battle damage, that damage would still occur even if you took the effect of Performage Trapeze Magician into account, so you would take that damage normally.
“Can I activate the Pendulum Effects of monsters such as Igknight Squire while the effect of Necrovalley is applying?”
Q: My opponent has Necrovalley face-up in their Field Zone, and its effect is applying. In this situation, can I activate the Pendulum Effects of Igknight Squire, Igknight Crusader, Igknight Templar, Igknight Paladin, Igknight Margrave, Igknight Gallant, Igknight Cavalier, or Igknight Veteran?
A: Yes, you can. If you do, you will destroy both cards in your Pendulum Zones and add a FIRE Warrior monster from your Deck to your hand. If you only have FIRE Warrior monsters in your GY and none in your Deck, only the part of the effect that destroys both cards in your Pendulum Zones is applied.
“If Assault Blackwing – Raikiri the Rain Shower is Synchro Summoned while the effect of Skill Drain is applying, is it treated as a Tuner?”
Q: If Assault Blackwing – Raikiri the Rain Shower is Synchro Summoned using at least 1 “Blackwing” monster as material while the effect of Skill Drain is applying, will it be treated as a Tuner? Also, if Skill Drain is activated after Assault Blackwing – Raikiri the Rain Shower is Synchro Summoned, and the effects of Assault Blackwing – Raikiri the Rain Shower are negated, will it no longer be treated as a Tuner?
A: Even if Assault Blackwing – Raikiri the Rain Shower is Synchro Summoned while the effect of Skill Drain is applying, the effect that treats it as a Tuner is still applied. Also, if Skill Drain is activated after Assault Blackwing – Raikiri the Rain Shower is Synchro Summoned, its effect is still applied, so it will still be treated as a Tuner.
The same applies to the following monsters:
– Assault Blackwing – Sayo the Rain Hider
– Assault Blackwing – Onimaru the Divine Thunder
– Assault Blackwing – Sohaya the Rain Storm
– Assault Blackwing – Chidori the Rain Sprinkling
“Can I activate Mystical Refpanel in response to the activation of Time-Tearing Morganite?”
Q: Can I activate Mystical Refpanel in response to the activation of the first effect of Time-Tearing Morganite or the first effect of End-Exalting Morganite?
A: It cannot be activated in either case.
“What happens to effect damage when both players control Performage Trapeze High Magician?”
Q: If each player controls a Performage Trapeze High Magician with 1 Xyz Material, and I activate the effect of Performage Trick Clown, what happens to the effect damage?
A: Only the effect of your Performage Trapeze High Magician is applied, and your opponent takes 1000 damage. When a player takes damage due to an effect that states “Your opponent takes any effect damage you would have taken instead”, their effect that states the same thing will not apply. The effect of your opponent’s Performage Trapeze High Magician will not apply.
“Can I Special Summon Phantom of Yubel while the effect of Necrovalley is applying?”
Q: While the effect of Necrovalley is applying, which states “Negate any card effect that would move a card in the GY to a different place”, can I Special Summon Phantom of Yubel from my Extra Deck by returning materials from my GY to my Deck/Extra Deck?
A: Yes, you can. Similarly, you can also Special Summon the following monsters by returning monsters from your GY to the Deck/Extra Deck, even while the effect of Necrovalley is applying:
– Exodius the Ultimate Forbidden Lord
“When activating the third effect of Primeoredial Imperialode, can I declare the names of Gemini monsters, or other monsters that have effects that treat them as Normal Monsters?”
Q: When activating the third effect of Primeoredial Imperialode, the first effect of Primeoredial Opener, or the first effect of Primeoredial Tremors, can I declare the name of a Gemini monster, or Dragon Spirit of White? Also, can I declare the name of a non-Effect Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster, such as Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth or Gem-Knight Pearl?
A: You cannot declare any of those monsters’ names. You also cannot declare the names of any of the following monsters with effects that treat them as Normal Monsters:
– Noble Knight Medraut
– Noble Knight Gwalchavad
– Noble Knight Borz
– Simorgh, Bird of Ancestry
– Mokey Mokey Adrift
“If a Chaotic Allure Queen whose name has been changed to Allure Queen LV3 sends itself to the GY to activate its effect, can the Special Summoned Allure Queen LV5 activate its effect?”
Q: Chaotic Allure Queen has been equipped by its own effect with Allure Queen LV3, and its name is treated as Allure Queen LV3. Furthermore, the effect of Allure Palace has granted it the effect “● You can send this card equipped with a card(s) by its own effect to the GY; Special Summon 1 Spellcaster monster with 1500 or less ATK from your hand or Deck.”
In this situation, if Chaotic Allure Queen activates its “●” effect and Special Summons Allure Queen LV5, can the effect of that Allure Queen LV5 be activated?
A: Yes, it can be activated. (Allure Queen LV5 is treated as having been Special Summoned by the effect of Allure Queen LV3.)
“If I equip Allure Queen LV3 and Special Summon Allure Queen LV5, using the second effect of Chaotic Allure Queen, can the Special Summoned Allure Queen LV5 activate its effect?”
Q: I activated the second effect of Chaotic Allure Queen, equipping Allure Queen LV3, then Special Summoning Allure Queen LV5. In this situation, can the effect of that Allure Queen LV5 be activated?
A: Yes, it can be activated. (Allure Queen LV5 is treated as having been Special Summoned by the effect of Allure Queen LV3.)
“If I activate Sacred Azamina and reveal a Level 6 “Azamina” Fusion Monster, how many “Sinful Spoils” cards do I need to send to the GY?”
Q: If I activate the first effect of Sacred Azamina and reveal a Level 6 “Azamina” Fusion Monster, how many “Sinful Spoils” cards do I need to send to the GY?
A: Send 1 card to the GY. The same applies to Azamina Ofeiletis and Azamina Hamartia.
“Can I add Instant Fusion to my hand with the first effect of Eosvarog, Forger of the Dawn?”
Q: After Eosvarog, Forger of the Dawn activates its first effect, can I add Instant Fusion from my GY to my hand during the Standby Phase of the next turn?
A: Yes, you can. Cards such as Instant Fusion with effects that perform a Special Summon treated as a Fusion Summon are included as cards with effects that Fusion Summon.
“Can I activate the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring in response to the activation of Sangen Kaimen?”
Q: When Sangen Kaimen is activated, can I activate the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring?
A: Yes, you can. Whether it is during the Battle Phase or outside of the Battle Phase, the effect of Sangen Kaimen includes adding a card from the Deck to the hand.
“If activating an effect results in a Synchro Summon, Xyz Summon, or Link Summon, can I activate the effect of Slapdash Summer Schoolwork Success?”
Q: I activated the effect of Stand Up Centur-Ion!, which resulted in a Synchro Summon being performed. After resolving the Chain, can the effect of Slapdash Summer Schoolwork Success be activated?
A: No, it cannot. If a monster is Synchro, Xyz, Link, or Pendulum Summoned as a result of activating a Spell/Trap effect, it is not considered to have been Special Summoned by effect.
Even if a Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, or Link Summon is performed as a result of activating the following effects, the effect of Slapdash Summer Schoolwork Success cannot be activated:
Effects that perform a Synchro Summon
– PSY-Frame Circuit
– Naturia Blessing
– Urgent Tuning
– Synchro Zone
– Woes of the White Forest
– Synchro Transmission
Effects that perform an Xyz Summon
– Fire King Sanctuary
– Wonder Xyz
– Full-Armored Xyz
– Goblin Biker Grand Stampede
Effects that perform a Link Summon
– World Legacy Awakens
– Evil★Twin Challenge
– Vaalmonica Creation
– Trickstar Diffusion
Effects that perform a Pendulum Summon
– Pendulum Evolution
– Pendulum Encore
“Can I activate the effect of Union Pilot that was equipped by the effect of Union Hangar or Unauthorized Reactivation?”
Q: During the turn Union Pilot was equipped to a monster by the effects of Union Hangar or Unauthorized Reactivation, which prevent the equipped Union monster from being Special Summoned this turn, can I activate the last effect of that Union Pilot?
A: Yes, you can. (If activated, equip 1 banished Union monster to an appropriate monster you control, and Special Summon Union Pilot from your hand.) The effects of Union Hangar and Unauthorized Reactivation prevent the equipped Union Pilot from being Special Summoned directly from the Spell & Trap Zone, but it can still be Special Summoned after returning it to the hand.
