“How many Main Monster Zones are required to activate the effect of Possessed Dark Soul?”
Q: My opponent has Tour Guide From the Underworld, Archfiend Heiress, Stygian Security, and Fiendish Rhino Warrior face-up in their Monster Zone. In this situation, how many available Main Monster Zones do I need to activate the effect of Possessed Dark Soul?
A: You can activate this effect if you have at least 3 available Main Monster Zones. (You can activate the effect if Tributing Possessed Dark Soul itself leaves you with at least 4 available Main Monster Zones.)
Furthermore, if the number of Main Monster Zones you have available becomes less than the number of face-up Level 3 or lower monsters in your opponent’s Monster Zones when resolving this effect, the player who activated the effect of Possessed Dark Soul chooses which monsters to take control of, and any remaining monsters that could not be taken control of due to the lack of available zones are destroyed.

“Which Fusion Monsters can be Special Summoned by the effect of Instant Fusion?”
Q: Can the following monsters be Special Summoned by the effect of Instant Fusion?
    (A) Monsters that state “Must first be Fusion Summoned” or “Must be Fusion Summoned”, such as El Shaddoll Winda, Elemental HERO Mariner, Elemental HERO Steam Healer, or Fullmetalfoes Alkahest.
    (B) Monsters that state “A Fusion Summon of this card can only be done with the above Fusion Materials” such as Chimeratech Rampage Dragon.
    (C) A Fusion/Pendulum Monster that has been added face-up to the Extra Deck, such as Patissciel Couverture.
    A:
    (A) It can be Special Summoned.
    (B) It cannot be Special Summoned.
    (C) It cannot be Special Summoned (even if Patissciel Couverture was previously Fusion Summoned).
A Special Summon by the effect of Instant Fusion is treated as a Fusion Summon, so monsters that must be Special Summoned by Fusion Summon, or must first be Special Summoned by Fusion Summon, can be Special Summoned by its effect.
However, the text “A Fusion Summon of this card can only be done with the above Fusion Materials” means that you are restricted to only using the Fusion Materials listed when performing a Fusion Summon, so as a result, it cannot be Special Summoned by the effect of Instant Fusion.
The following monsters also cannot be Special Summoned by the effect of Instant Fusion:
    – Dark Balter the Terrible
    – Fiend Skull Dragon
    – Gem-Knight Seraphinite
    – Gem-Knight Lady Lapis Lazuli
    – Elder Entity N’tss
    – Gladiator Beast Essedarii
    – Secret Six Samurai – Rihan
    – Neo-Spacian Twinkle Moss
    – Neo-Spacian Marine Dolphin
    – Monsters that must be Special Summoned with Fossil Fusion

“When activating the effect of Toon Dark Magician, can I discard Toon Alligator or Cartoon Shade as cost, or can I Special Summon them when resolving the effect?”
Q: Regarding the effect of Toon Dark Magician:
    (A) Can Toon Alligator or Cartoon Shade be discarded as cost to activate the effect?
    (B) Can Toon Alligator or Cartoon Shade be Special Summoned by the effect?
    A:
    (A) Yes, they can be discarded. A “Toon” card or “Toon” monster refers to a card with “Toon” in its name, so Toon Alligator and Cartoon Shade count.
    (B) No, they cannot be Special Summoned. A Toon monster is a monster with the Toon ability written next to its monster Type, so Toon Alligator and Cartoon Shade do not count. Therefore, neither can be Special Summoned by the effect of Toon Dark Magician.

“If a Fusion Summoned monster is changed to face-down Defense Position or temporarily banished, is it still treated as a Fusion Summoned monster?”
Q: If an Ancient Gear Megaton Golem, which was Fusion Summoned using 2 or more Ancient Gear Golem as materials, is changed to face-down Defense Position or temporarily banished by another effect, what happens to the following effects?
    (A) Its effect “If this card was Fusion Summoned using 2 or more “Ancient Gear Golem” and/or “Ancient Gear Golem – Ultimate Pound” as material, it can attack up to that many times during each Battle Phase.”
    (B) Its effect “If this face-up Fusion Summoned card in its owner’s control leaves the field because of an opponent’s card effect: You can Special Summon 1 “Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem” from your Extra Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions.”
    A:
    (A) The effect will not be applied.
    (B) It can be activated.
Even if a Fusion Summoned monster is changed to face-down Defense Position or is temporarily banished and returned to the Monster Zone, it will still be treated as a monster that was Special Summoned by Fusion Summon.
However, the monster’s effects that require it to be Fusion Summoned using a specific card as material, such as the second effect of Ancient Gear Megaton Golem, cannot be activated or applied even after it becomes face-up in the Monster Zone again.
(Note that if the monster is temporarily banished and returned to the Monster Zone, it is still treated as a monster that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, but if it was changed to face-down Defense Position, it is no longer treated as a monster that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck.)
    (A) The following is another example of a card with text that requires that it was Fusion Summoned using specific cards as materials:
    – Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon
    (B) The following is another example of a card with an effect that requires it to be Fusion Summoned:
    – Faisan, Hunting Scout of the Deep Forest

“Is the effect of Toon World the Perfect World, whose name is treated as Toon World, negated by the effect of Mind Scan?”
Q: I activated the effect of Mind Scan by declaring the following card names below. During this turn, is the effect of Toon World the Perfect World (“Once per turn: You can add 1 “Toon” card, or 1 card that mentions a “Toon” card’s name, from your Deck to your hand”) negated?
    (A) “Toon World the Perfect World” was declared.
    (B) “Toon World” was declared.
    A:
    (A) The effect is negated.
    (B) The effect is not negated.
As stated by the effect “negate the activated effects of cards with that original name until the end of this turn”, the effect of Mind Scan that was activated by declaring “Toon World the Perfect World” will negate the activated effects of any card whose original name is Toon World the Perfect World.
However, since the first and third effects of Toon World the Perfect World apply without starting a Chain, they are not negated by the effect of Mind Scan.
The same applies if you activate the effect of Mind Scan by declaring the following cards’ names:

    Treated as “Cyber Dragon”
    – Cyberdark Wurm
    – Cyber Dragon Drei
    – Cyber Dragon Herz
    – Cyber Dragon Nachster
    – Cyber Dragon Sieger

    Treated as “Harpie Lady”
    – Harpie Dancer
    – Harpie Channeler
    – Harpie Harpist
    – Harpie Oracle
    – Harpie Perfumer
    – Cyber Slash Harpie Lady

    Treated as “Fallen of Albaz”
    – Albaz the Ashen
    – Albion the Shrouded Dragon
    – The Bystial Aluber

Treated as “Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast”
    – Chimera the King of Phantom Beasts
    – Chimera the Illusion Beast
    – Berfomet the Mythical King of Phantom Beasts

    Treated as “Red Dragon Archfiend”
    – Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend
    – Scarred Dragon Archfiend

    Treated as “SPYRAL Super Agent”
    – SPYRAL Tough
    – SPYRAL Double Helix

    Treated as “Revendread Slayer”
    – Avendread Savior
    – Revendread Executor

    Treated as “Aleister the Invoker”
    – Aleister the Invoker of Madness

    Treated as “Dark Magician”
    – Dark Magician of Destruction
    – Magician of Chaos
    – Dark Magician, the Pharaoh’s Servant
    – Magician of Dark Illusion

    Treated as “Dark Magician Girl”
    – Dark Magician Girl the Magician’s Apprentice

    Treated as “Blue-Eyes White Dragon”
    – Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon

    Treated as “Red-Eyes Black Dragon”
    – Red-Eyes Soul
    – A monster Special Summoned by the effect of Red-Eyes Fusion

    Treated as “Gunkan Suship Shari”
    – Gunkan Suship Shari Red

    Treated as “Shiranui Style Synthesis”
    – Shiranui Style Solemnity
    – Shiranui Style Samsara

“How can I perform a Link Summon while the effect of Atlantis, City of the Sea Dragon is applying?”
Q: While the effect of Atlantis, City of the Sea Dragon (“If you Link Summon a “Daedalus” monster, you can reduce the material requirement listed on it by 1 and Link Summon it with 1 less material”) is applying, can I Link Summon Azure Ocean Dragon Lord – Neo-Daedalus Rage or Levia-Dragoon – Daedalus when I control the following monsters?
    (A) Only a Link-2 WATER Link Monster.
    (B) Only a Link-3 WATER Link Monster.
    (C) Only 2 WATER Normal Monsters.
    (D) Only 3 WATER Normal Monsters.
    (E) Only a Link-2 WATER Link Monster and a WATER Normal Monster.
    (F) Only a Link-3 WATER Link Monster and a WATER Normal Monster.
A: If the second effect of Atlantis, City of the Sea Dragon is applying, the number of materials required to Link Summon Azure Ocean Dragon Lord – Neo-Daedalus Rage becomes 3, and its material requirements are treated as “3 monsters”. The number of materials required to Link Summon Levia-Dragoon – Daedalus becomes 2, and its material requirements are treated as “2 WATER monsters”.
Therefore, in situations (A) and (B), neither can be Link Summoned.
In situations (C), (E) and (F), Levia-Dragoon – Daedalus can be Link Summoned, but Azure Ocean Dragon Lord – Neo-Daedalus Rage cannot be Link Summoned.
In situation (D), both can be Link Summoned.

“Can I Special Summon Akusana the Battle Ashtra using its own effect if the effect of Mind Scan is applying?”
Q: While the effect of my opponent’s Mind Scan (“While you have a “Toon” card in your field or GY, your opponent must keep their hand revealed, also you can look at their Set cards at any time”) is applying, can I Special Summon Akusana the Battle Ashtra using the method written in its first effect?
    A: Yes, you can.
Similarly, you can also reveal cards that are face-down on the field for the following cards:
    – Kuzuha the Bewitching Deity Ashtra
    – Yoa the Plague Deity Ashtra
    – Mikumari the Sealing Deity Ashtra
    – Solemn Accusation

“What is the ATK of CXyz Chaos Barian Hope Dragon if it has Gorgonic Umbral Horror as an Xyz Material?”
Q: If the third effect of Gorgonic Umbral Horror is applied when it is used to Xyz Summon Number 104: Masquerade Vain using 2 monsters as materials, then Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade Victory is Special Summoned on top of it using an effect treated as an Xyz Summon, and then CXyz Chaos Barian Hope Dragon is Xyz Summoned using Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade Victory as material, how much ATK does CXyz Chaos Barian Hope Dragon gain from its own effect?
A: In this scenario, the Xyz Materials that CXyz Chaos Barian Hope Dragon has are Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade Victory, Number 104: Masquerade Vain, and the 2 monsters used as materials to Xyz Summon Number 104: Masquerade Vain. Therefore, it gains 4000 ATK. (Even if the effect of Gorgonic Umbral Horror is applied, it is not treated as 2 Xyz Materials while attached to an Xyz Monster.)
Similarly, the following cards are not treated as 2 Xyz Materials after being used for an Xyz Summon:
    – Shining Umbral Horror
    – Tellarknight Cygnian
    – Drake Shark
    – Heraldic Beast Gryphon

“Can I add Mind Scan to my hand with the effect of Toon World the Perfect World?”
Q: Can I add Mind Scan to my hand with the effect of Toon World the Perfect World, which adds a “Toon” card or a card that mentions a “Toon” card’s name from my Deck to my hand?
A: No, you cannot. A “Toon” card refers to a card with “Toon” in its name, and a card that mentions a “Toon” card’s name refers to one that has a specific “Toon” card’s name written in its text. Mind Scan does not fall under either category, so it cannot be added to your hand with the effect of Toon World the Perfect World.

“Can I add Invocation – “Chalice” to my hand or Set it with the effects of Aleister the Reminiscent or Virakam, the Divine Spirit of Artifice?”
Q: If I activate the second effect of Aleister the Reminiscent, can I add Invocation – “Chalice” from my Deck to my hand? Also, if I activate the second effect of Virakam, the Divine Spirit of Artifice, can I Set Invocation – “Chalice”?
A: Neither can be done. (Although the card name of Invocation – “Chalice” includes “Invocation”, its text does not mention the specific card name “Invocation”.)

“If my opponent activates Evenly Matched from their hand, can I chain the effect of The World’s Greatest Gallant Thief?”
Q: If my opponent activates Evenly Matched from their hand using the method written in its text, can I chain the effect of The World’s Greatest Gallant Thief?
A: No, you cannot. When your opponent activates a Spell/Trap Card from their hand by placing it onto the field, that is not treated as activating a card effect in the hand, GY, or banishment.

    Source

“Can the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion be chained to the first “●” effect of Dark Time Wizard?”
Q: Can the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion be chained to the first “●” effect of Dark Time Wizard?
A: Yes, it can. The effect “add 1 “Dark Time Wizard” from your GY to your hand” is applied during the End Phase rather than when Dark Time Wizard resolves, however this effect is still one that adds a card from the GY to the hand, Deck, or Extra Deck.
Similarly, when the following effects are activated, the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion can be chained:
    – Triple-Headed Behemoth (second effect)
    – Destiny HERO – Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer (third effect)
    – Cutter Shark (second effect)
    – Harpie Oracle (third effect)
    – Virtual World Xiezhi – Jiji

“Can I Tribute 1 Gaia the Fierce Knight Origin in my hand to Tribute Summon The World’s Greatest Gallant Thief?”
Q: When Tribute Summoning The World’s Greatest Gallant Thief using the method written in its text, can I Tribute Summon just 1 Gaia the Fierce Knight Origin from my hand, which can be treated as 2 Tributes for the Tribute Summon of a Warrior monster?
    A: Yes, you can.
The same applies when you Tribute the following monsters in your hand:
    – World Legacy – “World Ark”
    – Whirlwind Prodigy

“If the effect of Phara the Primordial Goddess that was activated by revealing Umi is applying, can effects be chained to the effect of a card treated as Umi?”
Q: If the effect of Phara the Primordial Goddess was activated by revealing Umi, and the effect of Monstrous Arms of Atlantis is activated while it is treated as Umi in the Monster Zone, can other card effects be chained?
    A: No, they cannot.
If the effect of Phara the Primordial Goddess was applied, and the name of the Spell/Trap you revealed to activate it is the same name as a card activating its effect, neither player can activate cards or effects in response to that activation. The original card name and type (Monster, Spell, or Trap) of the card activating its effect is not taken into consideration.
Therefore, even if the effects of the following cards are activated while they are treated as Umi, neither player can activate cards or effects in response:
    – Leviathan of Atlantis – Daedalus
    – Fiendish Vortex of Atlantis
    – Levia-Dragoon – Daedalus
    – Azure Ocean Dragon Lord – Neo-Daedalus Rage
    – Sea Stealth II
    – Advent of Atlantis
    – Forgotten Temple of the Deep

The same also applies when you reveal the following cards, which are treated as Umi by their rule text, or when activating their effects:
    – A Legendary Ocean
    – Lemuria, the Forgotten City
    – Magellanica, the Deep Sea City
    – Pacifis, the Phantasm City

    Source

“Are the effects of cards treated as Umi negated by the effect of Mind Scan?”
Q: If the effects of the following cards are activated while they are treated as Umi, while the effect of Mind Scan that was activated by declaring “Umi” is applying, will those effects be negated?
    (A) The effect of Pacifis, the Phantasm City, which is treated as Umi by its rule text.
    (B) The effect of Leviathan of Atlantis – Daedalus, which is treated as Umi by its effect.
    A:
    (A) It is negated.
The same applies if you activate the effects of the following cards treated as Umi by their rule text:
    – Magellanica, the Deep Sea City
    – Lemuria, the Forgotten City
    (B) It is not negated. This is because even though it is currently treated as Umi, the original card name of Leviathan of Atlantis – Daedalus is not Umi.
The same applies if you activate the effects of the following cards treated as Umi by their own effects:
    – Monstrous Arms of Atlantis
    – Fiendish Vortex of Atlantis
    – Levia-Dragoon – Daedalus
    – Azure Ocean Dragon Lord – Neo-Daedalus Rage
    – Sea Stealth II
    – Advent of Atlantis
    – Forgotten Temple of the Deep

“If I activate an effect that performs a Synchro or Link Summon, will it be treated as if the monster left the field by a card effect?”
Q: If a monster leaves the field in any of the following ways, can I activate the effect of Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle that activates if a monster leaves the field due to the effect of a Normal Trap Card?
    (A) I activate the effect of Ashtra Cursed Roar that Special Summons it as a Normal Monster and then performs a Synchro Summon.
    (B) I activate World Legacy Awakens and perform a Link Summon.
A: In either case, the effect cannot be activated. In both cases, the monster leaves the field as a Synchro/Link Material, just like a normal Synchro or Link Summon, so it is not treated as leaving the field by a card effect.
Similarly, if you activate an effect that performs a Synchro or Link Summon, you cannot activate the effects of any of the following cards that activate when a monster leaves the field by a card effect:
    – Arianna the Labrynth Servant
    – Ariane the Labrynth Servant
    – Labrynth Stovie Torbie
    – Labrynth Chandraglier
    – Big Welcome Labrynth
    – Springans Booty
    – Great Sand Sea – Gold Golgonda
    – Springans Interluder
    – Sunvine Gardna
    – Sunvine Thrasher
    – Sunvine Healer
    – Time Thief Chronocorder
    – D/D/D/D Super-Dimensional Sovereign Emperor Zero Paradox
    – R.B. Funk Dock
    – Nightmare Throne
    – Majestic Mirage

“If I have no monsters in my Monster Zone, can I activate the second effect of Quick Summon to add The World’s Greatest Gallant Thief to my hand and then Tribute Summon it?”
Q: If I have no monsters in my Monster Zone, can I activate the second effect of Quick Summon to add The World’s Greatest Gallant Thief from my Deck or GY to my hand, then Tribute Summon it using the method written in its text “If you control no monsters, you can Tribute Summon this card face-up by Tributing monsters from your hand and/or your opponent’s field”?
    A: Yes, you can.
The second effect of Quick Summon can be activated as long as you are able to perform all parts of the effect “Add 1 Level 5 or higher monster that can be Normal Summoned/Set from your Deck or GY to your hand” and “immediately after this effect resolves, Tribute Summon it”. Therefore, as long as you are in a situation where you can perform the entire sequence of effects, you can activate and resolve the effect even if there are no monsters in your Monster Zone.
If you are in a situation where you can Tribute Summon any of the following monsters using the methods written in their text, or by applying one of the following effects, you can activate the second effect of Quick Summon even if there are no monsters in your Monster Zone:
    – The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode
    – Thestalos the Shadowfire Monarch
    – Dreiath III, the True Dracocavalry General
    – Metaltron XII, the True Dracombatant
    – Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King
    – Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter
    – Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior
    – Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster
    – Master Peace, the True Dracoverlord
    – When performing a Tribute Summon by applying the effect of The Monarchs Stormforth
    – When performing a Tribute Summon by applying the effect of Soul Exchange
    – When performing a Tribute Summon by applying the effect of Floowandereeze and the Unexplored Winds

    RULING REVERSALS

Ruling changes that have occurred this month:

    Possessed Dark Soul
Old Ruling: You can activate the effect of Possessed Dark Soul if the number of Main Monster Zones you have available (including the one made available by Tributing Possessed Dark Soul as cost) is less than the number of face-up Level 3 or lower monsters your opponent controls.
New Ruling: You cannot activate the effect of Possessed Dark Soul, unless the number of Main Monster Zones you have available (including the one made available by Tributing Possessed Dark Soul as cost) is equal to or greater than the number of face-up Level 3 or lower monsters your opponent controls.

Arcana Force EX – The Light Ruler (LPG2 erratum)
Old Ruling: When resolving the “● Tails” effect of Arcana Force EX – The Light Ruler, if it has 1000 or more ATK, apply the following actions in sequence: Negate the activation of the Spell/Trap Card or monster effect that targeted this card, and destroy it. If that effect is successfully applied, this card loses 1000 ATK.
New Ruling: When resolving the “● Tails” effect of Arcana Force EX – The Light Ruler, if it has 1000 or more ATK, apply the following actions in sequence: This card loses 1000 ATK. If that effect is successfully applied, negate the activation of the Spell/Trap Card or monster effect that targeted this card, and destroy it.
