“What happens if Called by the Grave is used against Maxx “C”?”
Q: My opponent has activated the effect of Maxx “C”. During the same turn, if I activate Called by the Grave and target the Maxx “C” in the Graveyard, what happens?
A: The result depends on whether Called by the Grave was activated by chaining to the effect of Maxx “C”, or if Called by the Grave was activated after the Chain Link made by the effect of Maxx “C” already resolved.
If you activated Called by the Grave by chaining to the effect of Maxx “C”, the Chain Link made by the effect of Maxx “C” resolves negated. Therefore, your opponent will not draw even if you Special Summon that turn.
If you activate Called by the Grave after the Chain Link made by the effect of Maxx “C” already resolved, the effect of that Maxx “C” will not be negated. (Called by the Grave negates activated effects with the same name as the banished monster, as well as effects that apply in the Monster Zone without starting a Chain, but the previously-applied effect of Maxx “C” is not considered either of these.) Therefore, your opponent will continue to draw each time you Special Summon this turn.
TL note: This one is simply an older ruling given a more detailed answer.
“When resolving Battlin’ Boxing Cross Counter, can I apply the effect of Battlin’ Boxer Lead Yoke and detach an Xyz Material from it instead of destroying my “Battlin’ Boxer” or “Number” Monster?”
Q: When resolving the effect of Battlin’ Boxing Cross Counter, can I apply the effect of Battlin’ Boxer Lead Yoke and detach an Xyz Material from it instead of destroying a “Battlin’ Boxer” Xyz Monster?
A: Yes, you can. However, in that case, the effect of Battlin’ Boxing Cross Counter is not considered to have successfully destroyed a “Battlin’ Boxer” Xyz Monster or “Number” Monster you control, so the activation of the opponent’s monster effect is not negated and the opponent’s monster is not destroyed, also the additional “●” effect cannot be applied.
“If the effect of Volcanic Rimfire or Volcanic Emission is activated, but the activation or the activated effect is negated, can I activate these effects again during the same turn and select the same ● effect?”
Q: I activated the effect of Volcanic Rimfire, but the activation of that effect, or the activated effect, was negated. During the same turn, can I activate the effect of Volcanic Rimfire again by selecting the same “●” effect?
A: You can activate the effect, but you cannot select the same “●” effect. The same is true for Volcanic Emission. Even if the effect or its activation are negated, you still selected a “●” effect.
“If Dogmatika Fleurdelis, the Knighted is Special Summoned by its own effect and the effects of Volcanic Emperor are negated, is damage inflicted by the effect of Volcanic Emperor?”
Q: I have Volcanic Emperor and Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula in my Monster Zone. In this situation, my opponent resolves the effect of Dogmatika Fleurdelis, the Knighted in their hand, Special Summoning it and negating the effects of a face-up monster on the field. If the effects of Volcanic Emperor or Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula are negated this way, is damage inflicted to my opponent by their effects?
A: No damage is inflicted by its effect. The effects of Volcanic Emperor and Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula that inflict damage to your opponent when a monster is Special Summoned do not apply in the middle of a resolving Chain Link. If a Special Summon occurs while resolving a Chain Link, their effects are applied immediately after resolving that Chain Link. When resolving the effect of Dogmatika Fleurdelis, the Knighted, both the action of Special Summoning and the action of negating the effects of a monster occur while resolving the same Chain Link. Once the Chain Link finishes resolving, the effects of that Volcanic Emperor or Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula have been negated, so their damage-inflicting effect is not applied.
“If Destiny HERO – Plasma is Special Summoned while Volcanic Emperor is on the field, is damage inflicted?”
Q: My opponent Special Summons Destiny HERO – Plasma while I have Volcanic Emperor and Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula in my Monster Zone. Due to the Special Summon, the damage-inflicting Continuous Effects of Volcanic Emperor and Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula meet their conditions to apply, but the Continuous Effect of Destiny HERO – Plasma is also applied. In this case, is damage inflicted to my opponent?
A: In that case, the effects of Volcanic Emperor and Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula are negated first, and no damage is inflicted.
“After a monster equipped with Superheavy Samurai Soulhorns attacks twice, can the Pendulum Effect of Superheavy Samurai General Coral be activated?”
Q: My monster equipped with Superheavy Samurai Soulhorns attacks twice by applying the effect “It can make a second attack during each Battle Phase”, and its second attack destroys an opponent’s monster by battle. At this time, can I activate the Pendulum Effect of Superheavy Samurai General Coral and attack a third time?
A: The Pendulum Effect of Superheavy Samurai General Coral cannot be activated. Therefore, a third attack is not possible.
“What happens if the effect of Subterror Final Battle that prevents activated effects from being negated and the effect of Called by the Grave that negates effects are both applying?”
Q: As Chain Link 1, I activate the first effect of Subterror Guru, but as Chain Link 2 my opponent activates the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Furthermore, I activate Subterror Final Battle as Chain Link 3 and select the effect that prevents activated effects of “Subterror” cards from being negated, but as Chain Link 4 my opponent chains Called by the Grave and targets another Subterror Guru in my Graveyard. After Chain Links 4 through 2 are resolved, how does the effect of Subterror Guru at Chain Link 1 resolve?
A: The effect of Subterror Guru is applied. When resolving a Chain Link while an effect prevents activated effects from being negated, even if another effect that negates effects has been applied, the first effect will not be negated and will apply normally.
Furthermore, regardless of the order in which the negating effect and the effect that prevents activated effects from being negated were each applied, the result will be the same as long as the effect that prevents activated effects from being negated is applying when you start to resolve an effect.
