Take The First Step Into The Abyss With “Chorozo, the Magistus Spirit”! [VJMP]

    NeoArkadiaBy NeoArkadiaJune 6, 202449 Comments

    It’s always the little guys.

VJMP-JP255 精霊[マギストス]コロゾ Magistus Chorozo (Chorozo, the Magistus Spirit)
Level 4 DARK Spellcaster Fusion Tuner Effect Monster
    ATK 1000
    DEF 2800
Materials: 1 Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster + 1 Spellcaster monster
Must first be either Fusion Summoned, or Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by sending 1 Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster Card and 1 Spellcaster Monster Card you control to the GY.
    (1) Once per turn, when a monster declares an attack: You can target it; negate the attack, and if you do, this card gains ATK equal to that monster’s (until the end of this turn), then you can return that monster to the hand.

    Note:

Most likely its name is a manipulation of Choronzon, a demon from the research of Edward Kelley and John Dee’s Enochian magic system, that was later incorporated into the Thelema religious system as the “Dweller of the Abyss”, serving as the last great obstacle between the Adept and their enlightenment, but he can be harnessed to achieve Ego Death, to attain greater enlightenment.

It’s a super poly target for casters!

      And that’s it.

      You can go home now.

      • Jojo on June 6, 2024 11:12 pm

        Dark Magician support

      • Kuroisenpu on June 6, 2024 11:32 pm

        And a instant fusion target

      • Zara on June 6, 2024 11:34 pm

No this is actually quite a good extender for Magistus since it can summon itself using just the equips or equips and monsters.
(Notice it says monster cards not monsters)

      • Anonymous on June 7, 2024 9:43 am

You didn’t read. Must send those that YOU control.

      • Logic Bomb on June 18, 2024 12:54 pm

@Zara “Must first be either Fusion Summoned, OR pecial Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by sending 1 Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster Card and 1 Spellcaster Monster Card you control to the GY.”, meaning you can fuse it with spells like Superpoly

    2. Duelistjd on June 6, 2024 11:11 pm

      Interesting

    3. Jojo on June 6, 2024 11:11 pm

Damn I was fooled! The title had me thinking it was a reveal from Rage of the Abyss lol

      • N on June 6, 2024 11:17 pm

V-JUMP promos are always revealed on the 7th of each month and are usually the first V-JUMP reveal of the month.
Rage of the Abyss should get plenty of reveals next week, especially with AC04 wrapping up and Crossover Breakers being relegated to a teaser.

    4. Samurex on June 6, 2024 11:13 pm

Insane self summon, flop effect. Just more Emergency Food. If I had a nickel for every demon based familiar that’s mostly white and emergency food, I’d have 2 nickels.
Which is nothing but it’s weird that it happened twice.

      • N on June 6, 2024 11:15 pm

The effect is a reference to an event from the OCG Stories manga. It’s not meant to be competitive, like most V-JUMP cards, merely to advertise the story contained within the magazine.

    5. Bruno Santo on June 6, 2024 11:17 pm

Well…. At least we know who the Final Boss will be in Magistus’s Manga just by reading his Summoning Condition.

      Spellcaster

    9. Metrona on June 6, 2024 11:21 pm

      Something funky
in umi control (with Horus) some people have been testing tachyon primal in the deck to lock the opponent into primal while we umi lock
However the only way to negate attacks was with doom kraken or by sacrificing a def position hope harbinger

      However
      Imsety is a spellcaster
      We play 3 Horus cards
So we can do the dragluxion + primal tachyon thing with Hapy and Duamutef and use imsety and dragluxion to make this card so that the lock is guaranteed to stay

    10. N on June 6, 2024 11:24 pm

Chorozo being a Level 4 Tuner is probably important for lore reasons.
Crowley and Rilliona can’t equip Chorozo with their GY effects, while Zoroa can Special Summon it from the GY but cannot immediately Synchro with him.

    11. Kuroisenpu on June 6, 2024 11:35 pm

Keep in mind, you can target your attacking monster and absorb that monster’s attack and bounce it to the hand.

    12. Articz on June 6, 2024 11:44 pm

Little guy has 3 legs in the front and one in the back.

      • Articz on June 6, 2024 11:47 pm

Or 1 leg in the front and 3 in the back. Not so sure.

      • 9 on June 7, 2024 6:28 pm

You’re looking at it wrong, it’s normal, it has two in the front and two in the back

    13. some dude on June 6, 2024 11:53 pm

I hate that you can’t use duality to summon this

    14. Tyke on June 7, 2024 12:13 am

Pretty nice Instant Fusion target, and it’s a Level 4 Tuner, always nice indeed.

P.S Bring back Norden, plz, I beg of thee Komoney

    15. big chungus lifer on June 7, 2024 12:54 am

magistus is one my favorite archetypes and while i love that they’re getting lore its gonna be real disappointing if this is the kind of support they’re gonna get 🙁

      • Zara on June 7, 2024 2:04 am

        This card is pretty good.
The effect is meh, but useful for OTK’s.
It’s materials are great for a Super Polymerization target.
It’s a duality target for Rilliona.
It turns any normal summoned non-Dark Magistus into a Shadow’s Light target.
Its summoning condition is insane; every Magistus equip is now half of a level 4 Spellcaster tuner.
Theurgy becomes half of an extender now too.

It doesn’t allow one card combos, but that’s not a bad thing. It adds so much to every 2 card combo or higher, and it does so in a way where there isn’t an obvious location to Ash or Imperm. Compare that to the link 1 Genex where it’s very obvious that you need to handle that one card and the deck will crumble.

We (people who play Magistus) got a very, very good piece of support. My only concern is that they made it too generic.

      • SolarFlareYGO on June 7, 2024 3:52 am

You cant duality it out because you have to fusion summon it OR summon it by its own condition

      • Logic Bomb on June 7, 2024 11:02 am

What do mean? This card is great. Yeah its effect is meh, but it is a Level 4 Spellcaster tuner fusion that’s also a superpoly target, that’s ALSO summonable by sending the equips. This is a good start…and knowing Konami as good as it gets, but this is still good.

    16. Samm13 on June 7, 2024 12:57 am

      Madoka Magistus

    17. Hermes on June 7, 2024 12:58 am

Thats an interesting little target for the super poly (also supports Spellcasters so thats nice), i wonder when we will learn any news about the new Blue Eyes Structure Deck

      • N on June 7, 2024 1:37 am

Usually Structure Decks get their first reveals about a month and a half before the release date. The Blue-Eyes SD should get news next month.
This month we are getting the final cards in Animation Chronicle 2024, the next major reveals for Rage of the Abyss, the archetype reveals for Crossover Breakers, and Japan’s next ban list.

    18. KINGOFHEROS826 on June 7, 2024 1:02 am

Since “Thelema” was referenced here, Alister Crowley once performed a ritual in the King’s Chamber (I think) in The Great Pyramid of Giza, called the Bornless Ritual. Some say he was trying to trigger the Apocalypse of Revelation, but since we are here… also look how cute this thing is!!!

    19. S.G on June 7, 2024 1:52 am

Another fusion tuner, now allows decks to syncro without needing a main deck tuner. Playing reprodocus with this allows almost any deck to syncro summon.

It also can counter branded, centur-i9n and a whole bunch of other archetypes as a super poly

The attack Absorb effect is great especially due to tenpai dragon seeing play.

    20. Alduin on June 7, 2024 2:01 am

Well, it actually interacts with the archetype’s gimmick and playing it doesn’t lock the deck out of most of its cards, so it’s a whole lot better than most of the stuff Sky Striker got out of this manga. That’s something, at least.

    21. Why on June 7, 2024 2:02 am

Why modern monsters are zoomed out? the artwork of the monster is so tiny compared to the maximun size it could be.

    22. Claire on June 7, 2024 2:14 am

I know this is probably some kind of demonic entity from beyond the stars, but this is the cutest little babie since Purrely. I want 20.

    23. SARANKO on June 7, 2024 2:32 am

Déçu que se soit une carte magistus.

    24. Mageside on June 7, 2024 2:40 am

I don’t get why Prophecy has to be thrown on the backburner so Magistus can get more useless support
why can’t both get support simultaneously?? There isn’t nothing confusing about that at all, what’s more confusing is that they haven’t clarified that Magistus is a prequal to Endymion becoming the biggest coward ever

      • HFIL on June 7, 2024 11:11 am

It’s one card my guy and really good (especially for Magistus), so it’s definitely not useless

    25. Venom9999 on June 7, 2024 2:44 am

Any Spellcaster deck will love it

    26. Naransolongo_BB on June 7, 2024 3:52 am

Considering these promos usually suck, I’ll take a decent anti-spellcaster Super Poly and a card that actually WORKS with the deck it’s inspired from, Sky Strikers

    27. worstchan on June 7, 2024 4:03 am

Ugh, the beast is demonic in nature. Very icky, no good.

    28. ScionStorm on June 7, 2024 7:42 am

Aleister got himself a newfangled Eevee.

    29. Dobrev on June 7, 2024 8:50 am

I think the card is very good. And exactly what we need. We need new ways of disrupting instead of the toxic negate and destroy. And this is something yes weaker but also healthier and more creative.

Neg&destroy has become the norn that hurt the game as a whole instead of promoting creative outs and unique gameplay. Everything is stale and boring these days no wonder people quit and no new people join.

    30. Logic Bomb on June 7, 2024 10:24 am

When this was revealed, I said it’d be really hard to mess this up, because it was a level 4 for Magistus and…I was right. This thing is great. Not only is it level 4, but it’s a spellcaster, it’s a tuner and it’s a Super poly target. It’s effect…fine, it literally could’ve been anything. This card is great for what it is. Kind of wish it had an equip effect, but that is a small nitpick. Good stuff.

Off-brand Kyubey: Would you like to make a contract with me and become a Magician Girl?

        …. make a contract?

I am thou, thou art I
Thou hast acquired a new vow
It shall become the wings of rebellion that breaketh thy chain of captivity.
With the birth of the Spellcaster Persona, I have obtained the winds of blessing that. shall lead to freedom and new power.

    32. The one on June 7, 2024 11:35 pm

Do i need to control only the spellcaster or both materials?

      • Loke Weave on June 18, 2024 1:01 pm

Technically, you don’t have to control either if you use a card like super poly

    33. Stardust on June 24, 2024 1:37 pm

Is this card good in Magician decks?
