Haven’t seen a possible multi-set theme like this in a while.
DUAD-JP073 春 Haru (Spring)
Field Spell Card
(1) Once per turn: You can choose any number of your unused Main Monster Zones, and if you do, place that number of Season Counters on this card, also those zones cannot be used while this card is on the field.
(2) Monsters you control gain 400 ATK for each Season Counter on this card.
(3) Once per turn, during your opponent’s End Phase: You can take 1 Field Spell from your Deck that you can place a Season Counter on, and place it face-up on your field (but neither player can activate its effects this turn), and if you do, place all Season Counters on this card on that card.
Note: 春はあけぼの。translates to “In spring, it is the dawn”, and is the opening line of Sei Shonagon’s Pillow Book (Makura no Soshi), a classic piece of Japanese literature.

If I am reading this correctly, then I can play this on turn one, shut down all of my zones for five counters and then free those zones by replacing it with a copy of itself via the third effect, keeping the stat boost and being able to further boost next turn if I need to.
We’ll have to see if any further seasons have better overall effects, but this is one of those fun cards I’d run in a casual deck or when designing a character’s first deck that they eventually upgrade.
Third effect is during the opponent’s end phase though?
The ATK boost looks like a continuous effect, not something that you active. As I read it, you won’t keep the ATK when you use the replacement effect.
@Chaosnerd, the 2nd effect reads: “Monsters you control gain 400 ATK for each Season Counter on this card”. How the second copy of Spring got the counters is irrelevant.
It wouldn’t work cause after setting another copy, the counters dissspear.
A few things
First of all, these comment reveal really well that people just dont read yugioh cards xD
Second of all, im pretty sure this card will be part of an achetype (more than just the 4 seasons or possibly variations of each season), similar to how how spellcounters work, with a bunch of cards like “If you controll a field spell which mentions season counters: You can specialsummon this card from your hand. If this card is summoned and you have 4 or more season counters on your field, you can add a card from your deck to your hand which mentions season counters.”
And third of all, this card feels very similar to the new Fairy tale archetype, with self switching field spells and all
They probably arent related, but might be able to be put together
Kinda feels like yosenju can use this
they can. lol. all this is missing is Yosenju in the name so you can trigger the counter trap. lol
The sacred texts are true
And by “Sacred Text”, you mean “an accidental reveal that absolutely got someone fired”.
Seymour Skinner: Yes.
don’t tell me they gonna remove the text from the card in the TCG
Why would they remove it?
mmm… probably… since the game is for toddlers acording to konami ^^
My Guess is theyll replace it with some random english text like “Not only the year begins with spring” or something like that
Very interesting card, this one. It probably won’t get much use in most decks, but if they ever make something similar to Sky Striker (which doesn’t really rely on Main Monster Zones), i think it has potential.
Sky StrikerAce – Hayate, no main zone monsters, and this card? First turn you’re looking at a max of a 3500 atk direct attacker, and if you keep your main mon zones clear, that’s an additional 2000 atk per turn, per copy of spring
What other card can you put Season counters on? Or is this for future seasonal field spells. Cause in a vacuum, this card is so terrible.
Sky Striker or some decks that use only 1 monster like eldlich can get a permanent boost of 2k or 2.5k per turn. You will have to find a way to protect the field of course but I don’t think this card is terrrible, just a little bad but fun.
They’re clearly setting up that over the next four sets we’re going to get each of the four seasons. Each one most likely with a different effect. So that you can alter the seasons depending on what you need.
Each of the next 3 sets will receive the next seasonal Field Spell.
The set after this one will be Summer, the set after that set will be Autumn, and the set after that will be Winter.
Other copies of itself for starters, just block off what zones you aren’t using that turn for a major power boost, then at your op end phase, it sets a new Spring, resets the block, carries over the boost. It’s an amazing card as long as you have room for three copies and a field recycle engine
@yukicrewger2 A field spell that only gives you an attack boost at the cost of zones is pretty bad. It doesn’t even protect itself. Just saying, those other seasonal cards are gonna have to step it up. But hey, sometimes a card can be neat instead of good and this is very neat
There’ll prob be a haru, natsu, aki, and fuyu field as well
People will use this with floodgate monsters for sure, fossil dyna/barrier statues/inspector boarder.
They get 1600 atk so that you’ll have a hard time crashing, tho moon mirror shield is obv the better pick there.
The scenery reminds me of the background used for Ash Blossom, maybe they are connected?
Well, as you can guess ash blossoms are symbol of spring in Japan and both these cards are related to that.
I don’t think that they are supposed to be part of the same series/archetype/whatever, just have similiar themd of blossoming ash trees.
The first of the 27 DUAD cards officially revealed, tied to the start of the season and fiscal year in Japan.
Tomorrow we will probably get 1 or 2 more daily reveals, probably attached to a standalone.
So after this set then it’ll be Summer, then the next set Autumn and by January next year Winter field spell
That would actually be pretty good. I would collect those!
I can’t wait for the next 3!
Spring. Then summer, Autumn, winter. Maybe have main deck and extra monster that are related to season. Like fox and or rabbit could be winter. Autumn could be a warrior returning to its home land. Summer dog or cat. Spring could do with birds or flowers.
Desu yo.
Lilywhite jumpscare
HARU DESU YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
HARU DESU YOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Lyrilusc OTK got a boost!
Great pick for a writer, Sei Shonagon’s Makura no Toshi is a amazing classic
Rare case where field spell art looks like a field spell. Are we getting summer next set?
Wait. It says that the chosen Zones cant be used anymore. But they could be chosen again. Right? Theoretically i could put up to 5 counters on this every turn or am i wrong?
It says while it is on the field, so its not eternally locking off these zone
Buuut im sure there was a ruling at some point which states that Blocked off zones are counted as ‘in use:, and they cant be chosen again for an effect which would double lock them. At the same time they still count as “empty” for other effects
In other words, how this card works, if you lock off your zones with it you cant use them until the card is removed from the field, that includes its own effect, even if its replaced with another copy of itself
So you either have to run multiple of this or the other season cards (if they function as expected)
I just hope they get more support than just the 4 seasons, since this card has no protection, is slow, has no good ways of searching it yet (if the other seasons work like this too they will be veeery slow to use), and as of rn, this is a “win more” effect where other cards are more usefull as of rn, loke moon and mirror shield which is signifficantly more searchable (since its an equip spell), which also has the benefit of making potentially 0 attack monsters hard to destroy, and recycles itself
So as of yet, this card is a bit of a trade off, and you have to choose to either have the card that works on multiple monsters to give them a healthy boost, but the healthier the boost is the less monsters you can use, with a potential to become a better card during your next turn, or you use the highly searchable moon and mirror shield, which makes 1 monster invunrable against monster attacks, but doesnt allow for explosive plays, and doesnt become a different card in the future
Zones are freed after using third effect but counters are moved to next one, further fueling second effect. The play for now is to loop three copies of these.
It’s kinda slow card but the buff is big enough to justify it. You don’t even need to play around it – just activate it after doing your combos, block all your unused zones, get like 800 ATK bonus and then at the end of opponent’s turn just free the zones anyway.
I suppose it’s also counter for Kashtira lock and memes like Ojama Trio.
Oh yea, i didnt even think of this card having that kind of use, its just a generically usable card in decks which dont have a native field spell
The problem is that those decks would rather use more starters and extenders, instead of a card which does battle protection semi well, and basically is a attack boosting “win more” card during a time where pretty much all decks can already put an oth on the field
Only deck i could really see this being played in is melffy, since they dont have a field spell, but spam monsters…
But the problem with that is that they need a lot of free zones for their plays (normally at least 3+ if not more), and their stats are so bad that a 800-1600 boost doesnt even do much for them
In that case the only good option might be pure sky striker, since their field spell is basically just a one and done, and after that you have 5 zones to feed to whatever boss you chose to make
