Strategic Summary:
The Alien archetype features a group of Reptile monsters themed around the use of A-Counters that enable your effects, reduce the capabilities of your opponent’s monsters when one has counter(s), or prime them for abduction. So let’s talk about how the new support cards give you even more of all of that! First up, Cosmic Pincer Ze’Loor (YGOrg Translation) offers the Alien deck a much-needed control option, shifting all your opponent’s monsters with an A-Counter to DEF and preventing them from activating their effects. Plus, whenever it is Link Summoned, you get to search a card that spreads A-Counters. Plus, it can remove 2 A-Counters from the field to let you Normal Summon. Each effect is powerful for this theme, and a true godsend to an older archetype that needed a significant boost.
The other new card is Alien Buster (YGOrg Translation), which offers the ability to place two A-Counters on an opponent’s monster when it is sent to the GY. While this may not seem like much, a small Abhyss engine gives you a significant amount of consistency, unlocking additional summons from the GY, additional ways to get Xyz Material for King of the Feral Imps, and tutoring capabilities for your Buster. Between all that and the ability of Aliens to loop soft once-per-turn effects, such as Code A Ancient Ruins, you are set to steal away the duel with the mind controlling effects of Alien Hypno, and the synchro powers of Cosmic Fortress Gol’Gar. These are still the Aliens that may you know and love, but they’re actually able to do their jobs much more effectively now. Abduct to your hearts content with these empowered Aliens!
