[RD/KP10] The Number 3 Centric Urban Legends

Did you know the Flatswood Monster is known as Ms. 3 Meters Tall in Japan?

Sannomiyakin G Robo Three Kai (Sannomiya Golden G Robo MK-III)
Level 3 LIGHT Reptile Normal Monster
ATK 300
DEF 1500
(Its power source is AA Batteries. Its daily routine is to watch videos while taking a walk. It never works nor studies.)

Note: This card is a play on the name of Ninomiya Kinjirou, a prominent 19th-century Japanese agriculturalist, philosopher, moralist, and economist. It literally looks like him, and its name sounds like his name, except they changed “Ni” (two) to “San” (three). There are some stories in which it’s said his statues run around schools at night.

Note 2: AA Batteries in Japan are known as 単三電池 Taisan Denchi, i.e. “A #3 Battery”, continuing Mitsuko’s 3 puns.

33 Alien 33
Level 3 LIGHT Reptile Normal Monster
ATK 1100
DEF 1100
(A workaholic professional who specializes in the designing and maintenance of spacecraft. He’s part of a crazy plan at a certain facility.)

Note: I don’t think this is a specific reference other than maybe Alien 3?

Warp Baachan San Shimai (The Three Warp-Granny Sisters)
Level 3 LIGHT Reptile Normal Monster
ATK 1300
DEF 300
(A trio of sisters who warp in unique poses. Their hobby is to frighten the operators of spaceships while running alongside them.)

Note: This card is likely a reference to the Turbo Granny (ターボばあちゃん), an urban legend/ghost story in Japan of a granny who races at 100 kilometers per hour.

Hakushokuwaiseijin San Germain (Alien Count of the White Dwarf, St. Germain)
Level 7 LIGHT Reptile Normal Monster
ATK 2500
DEF 1300
(A count who has been rumored to live for over 300 years. Immediately after he gets a haircuit, he cannot fire his lasers.)

Note: This card is based on St. Germain, a famous adventurer in European high society, who is a man of many rumors, such as being a vampire, an immortal, an alchemist, many of which were spread by himself to make his past as obtuse and obscure as possible.

Hakushoku (White) sounds like Hakushaku (Count/Earl). Hakushokuwaisei is a White Dwarf. Seijin is Japanese for Alien. San is for Mitsuko’s recurring theme of “Three” in her cards, and it’s the French pronunciation for Saint.

300 Kounen Akai Mant (300 Light-Year Red Cloak)
Normal Spell Card
[REQUIREMENT] If there are 3 face-up Reptile monsters on your field, you can activate this.
[EFFECT] All face-up Reptile monsters on your field gain 300 ATK until the end of the turn. If your opponent has 3000 or more LP than you, you can also choose 1 face-up Normal Monster on your opponent’s field and destroy it.

Note: This card is named after Aka Mant, a deadly Japanese ghost encountered in bathrooms, it’ll offer you colored toilet paper, and well, there’s a good chance one way or another, you’ll die.

Hakushaku Sanjyou (Threerrival of The Reptilian Count/Third Coming of the Reptilian Count)
Normal Spell Card
[REQUIREMENT] You can activate this by shuffling 3 Level 3 or lower Reptile Normal Monsters from your GY back into the Deck.
[EFFECT] Choose 1 Reptile Monster in your GY and Special Summon it to your field face-up.

Note: This card is playing on Hakushaku being the word for Count, except one of the Kanji (Shaku) was replaced for the word for Lizard. It could be a reference to political leaders or nobility being lizard people as a common conspiracy.

Arrival/Visit/etc. (Sanjyou) is another word that has the sound San (3) in it.

RD/KP10-JP053 エリア33 Area 33
Field Spell Card
[REQUIREMENT] If you control 2 or more Level 3 or lower Reptile Normal Monsters, you can activate this card.
[EFFECT] While this card is face-up in a Field Zone, Reptile Normal Monsters on the field gain 600 ATK.

Note: This card is a reference to the Groom Lake military installation, better known to the public as Area 51.

Gekkou no San Fushigi (The Three Moonlit Mystery Geckos)
Normal Trap Card
[REQUIREMENT] If there is a face-up Level 3 or lower Reptile Normal Monster on your field, when your opponent’s monster declares an attack, you can activate this.
[EFFECT] Choose 1 face-up Reptile monster on your field, until the end of the turn, it gains 1000 ATK x [The number of face-up Reptile monsters on your field].

Note: Gekkou (Moonlight) sounds the same as Gecko. It’s vaguely referencing how schools will often have various wonders or mysteries in Japanese pop culture.
