Gryphon has ZEXAL’s color scheme, is Whale referential too?
bro Whale is a Water Fish it’s obviously Shark
The whale kinda looks like Tron’s mask.
Quinton maybe?
It’s a crime that the Heraldry Beast Fish monster, is not a Shark. Would be a fun nod to the plot line from Zexal.
Erasing the names of your opponent’s monsters is a very cool concept. Wonder if it’s been done before.
Apparently, it’s a new Effect. A new innovative way for Negate.
It was in Genom-Heritage’s anime effect and Amnesia from Arc-V anime. This is the first time for IRL cards.
Basically, this new Heraldic Beasts is focused on applying memory/identity erasure similar to what Vetrix did in the Anime: why these cards change the Monsters’ Names to “Unknown”.
It’s also an effect Genom-Heritage had and used to win duels in the Anime.
All that lock for a dragostapelia tier boss monster lmfao.
These are cute and all but these won’t really be meta. But I like the idea of using Gryphon for the Rank 4 toolbox.
Anyway Ruka confirmed for the third anime theme at Jump Festa.
Pablod. It is not new. Angelica’s ring and magician’s hard negate when the effect resolves, but I believe that it only applies to spells. I believe that twin Pegasus saber functions the sake way despite not mentioning anything about the effect resolving
New Xyz based on 69’s alternate forms was a pretty obvious route to take for future support. I’m really happy to see the name-nullifying effect that Number 8 had in the anime finally made its way into the real game. Any kind of archetypal-specific or name specific support, and Extra Deck monsters that need archetypal or specifically named materials, will not enjoy being victim to that effect. It has a lot of potential for interesting interactions.
This too, comes not long after we’ve received the first real OCG/TCG monster to treat itself as multiple Xyz Materials. A lot of effects most thought to be relegated to the anime for good are slowly but surely cropping up in the real game. If this keeps up, maybe we can get actual Rank to Level converting cards.

How is this going to work with HOPT effects?
This effect of [Card name] can only be activated once per turn. <- Do we treat all instance of a self-referential card name in the text too as unknown, if so, is the Snake Eyes Ash that became Unknown the same Unknown as the Flamberge on the field, and would consuming its HOPT mean that Flamberge's HOPT now doesn't work too?
There's a few ways to work this:
1. Each Unknown is a unique Unknown to the card, and changes the card's text so that HOPT is preserved, but since all of them are Unknown, a HOPT activated on one of them will restrict all of their effects.
2. Unknown is treated as a separate card, so a card changed to Unknown can activate its effect, get negated, but then the card that it originally was can also be played and activates its effect because it isn't Unknown. Meaning you can activate a HOPT twice per turn, once on the original, once on Unknown.
Man even typing this out I can think of so many ruling problems this will create. Just going to wait for the rules update that will come with this.
Actually really hope it’s the former, not only because that fits intuition better (if two things have the same name, then references to that name should logically work the same across them) but that also gives another level of disruption to such cards. Imagine hitting multiple HOPT effect monsters with identity theft and forcing your opponent to choose between which one’s effect to use.
HOPT clauses refer directly to the effect itself, and only mention the card name for the sake of it. You cannot use HOPT effects more than once in a turn, even if a monster’s name changes. There are already many monsters that change their own names and carry Q&As about this stuff that you can easily read on the translated DB, such as Phantom of Chaos.
Or, even worse, HOPT effects literally cannot activate while a card is “Unknown”.
That card isn’t “Diabellstar the Black Witch”! It’s “Unknown”! You can’t use “Unknown” to activate the effect of “Diabellstar the Black Witch!”
My lords….I awaited your return…welcome back.
Check this out Joshua Fiendschmidt: Heraldic Circular!
Heraldics were definitely not on my bingo card. Also, changing their names is a really interesting effect that will absolutely give judges PTSD from the ruling’s nightmares.
This is so cute, but it’s a bit of a shame that they’ve moved somewhat towards the trend of delineating archetypes by mentioning cards instead of possessing a text string in their name. “Unknown” can still mention Shining Sarcophagus or whatever
I mean, I’d argue that’s a good thing card-design wise. On the aesthetic grounds, it means that series of cards can be grouped together without needing to put in a specific text string, which offers more freedom in card naming. For gameplay, it also means those types of “archetypes” will be unaffected by name changes, and it’s interesting to have a mix of themes that are both vulnerable to, and resistant, to name changing.
ryzeal heraldic is actually a good option to play the deck due to patriarch being sent off of ex
Except the 2 main deck monsters lock you into Heraldic Beast materials because then Time Thief-Ryzeal-Heraldic would become either tier 1 or tier 0
Cool hopefully this means we’ll get new Star Seraph 😇 and Umbral Horror 😈 support.
More Hand ✋️ monsters would be neat too. Especially for people who remember the HAT deck .
DATA LOST is now a thing in Yu-Gi-Oh! YAY!!!
I feel like making a card nameless is an extremely cool and unique gimmick. It’s so great it should have been the focus of an entire archtype instead of just a one off thing. Also nice to see more obscure xexal dicks getting support, maybe that person who wants Umbral Horror support is going to get their wish someday.
There was a card called Amnesia used in Arc V by Yuya in ep 32 and the card effect was targeting one card on field and change it’s name to Amnesia. I don’t know if it will ever be printed but it definitely had a unique effect even by anime standards.
Hey, these are really cool – they managed to finally avenge Genome-Heritor losing its anime effect that wins a duel, and also made the weird extra versions of Heraldry Crest that are supposed to negate everything on the field. There’s a lot of kind of goofy ways to use them too, God Rage isn’t HOPT and is a Number Monster you can cheat out with effs like Utopia Dragonar or something. I don’t think it’ll make the deck particularly good because the limitations on the cards are rough though
Notably, Whale doesn’t stop you from adding multiple copies of the same spell, so you can just add two Advanced Heraldry Arts. Which is a sizable amount of guys to obtain really. I guess these could be weird cards to occasionally see in a Ryzeal list of some sort, or to play the Ice Normal Summon engine for. The Quick-Play spell being generic is really funny – it’s not great but someone somewhere is gonna use it to shut down an archetype relevancy and make someone very mad.
Identity theft is not a joke, Tron!
