“What happens if a face-down Defense Position monster is flipped face-up by battle while the effects of Rivalry of Warlords, Gozen Match, or There Can Be Only One are applying?”
Q: What happens if a face-down Defense Position monster I control is attacked in the following situations?
(A) While the effect of Rivalry of Warlords is applying, I control a Warrior monster, and a face-down Defense Position monster with a different Type is attacked.
(B) While the effect of Gozen Match is applying, I control a FIRE monster, and a face-down Defense Position monster with a different Attribute is attacked.
(C) While the effect of There Can Be Only One is applying, I control a Warrior monster, and a face-down Defense Position monster with the same Type is attacked.
A: In each case, if a monster is flipped face-up before damage calculation by an opponent’s attack, the effects of Rivalry of Warlords, Gozen Match, and There Can Be Only One will be applied after damage calculation, and the monster is immediately sent to the Graveyard. (It is not treated as being sent to the Graveyard by battle or card effect. It is also not considered to have been sent to the Graveyard by the opponent.)
Furthermore, even if the attacked monster has an effect that can be activated in the Monster Zone after damage calculation (such as a Trigger Effect that activates when the monster is flipped face-up), it cannot be activated in this case because the monster has already been sent to the Graveyard.
“If a Speedroid Gum Prize Special Summoned from the hand by its own effect is banished by the effect of Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon and returns to the field, can I activate its effect?”
Q: Speedroid Gum Prize is Special Summoned during the Battle Phase by its own effect. During that Battle Phase, Speedroid Gum Prize is banished by the effect of my opponent’s Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. In this case, when Speedroid Gum Prize returns to the field, can I activate its second effect?
A: No, you cannot. In order to activate the second effect of Speedroid Gum Prize, it must remain face-up in the Monster Zone from the time it is Special Summoned by its first effect until its second effect is activated.
“If the effect of Thunder King Rai-Oh is applied, can the effect of Majespecter Cat – Nekomata be activated?”
Q: If the effect of Thunder King Rai-Oh is applying and Majespecter Cat – Nekomata is Normal Summoned, can its effect be activated?
A: It can be activated. In that case, if the effect of Thunder King Rai-Oh is still applying during the End Phase, you do not add a card from your Deck to your hand. Furthermore, if the effect of Thunder King Rai-Oh is not applying during the End Phase, you add a “Majespecter” card from your Deck to your hand normally.
The same applies to the following effects.
– Second effect of Dark Hole Dragon*
– First effect of Crystal Girl
– Second effect of PSY-Framelord Lambda
– First effect of Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer
– Monster effect of Raremetalfoes Bismugear
– Monster effect of Dragodies, the Empowered Warrior
*Note: In the TCG, the relevant effect of Dark Hole Dragon is written as its third effect.
“What happens if I activate De-Fusion targeting Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon that was Special Summoned by its own Summoning procedure?”
Q: If I activate De-Fusion and target a Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon that was Special Summoned by its own Summoning procedure, what happens?
A: If Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon was Special Summoned by its own Summoning procedure, it is not treated as a Fusion Summon. Therefore, when the effect of De-Fusion is applied, Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon will return to the Extra Deck, but the monsters sent to the Graveyard for its Special Summon cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard.
The same applies to the following monsters.
– Ultimate Great Insect
– Yaguramaru the Armor Ninja
– Meizen the Battle Ninja
– Alba-Lenatus the Abyss Dragon
– Egyptian God Slime
– World Chalice Guardragon Almarduke
– Thunder Dragon Colossus
– Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom
– Chimeratech Megafleet Dragon
– Chimeratech Fortress Dragon
– Shadow Six Samurai – Rihan
– Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon
“If the effect of Thunder King Rai-Oh is applied, can the second effect of Ankuriboh be activated?”
Q: While the effect of Thunder King Rai-Oh is applying, Ankuriboh is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard. At this time, can I activate the effect of Ankuriboh that adds a Monster Reborn from my Deck or Graveyard to my hand during the End Phase?
A: It can be activated. In that case, if the effect of Thunder King Rai-Oh is still applying during the End Phase when you apply the effect of Ankuriboh, Monster Reborn cannot be added from your Deck to your hand. (If Monster Reborn is in your Graveyard, you must add that card to your hand.) Also, if the effect of Thunder King Rai-Oh is not applying during the End Phase, you can add Monster Reborn from your Deck to your hand normally.
If the effect of Thunder King Rai-Oh is applying, the same is true when Bystial Magnamhut Is Special Summoned and its second effect is activated.
“Under which circumstances does my opponent have to attack due to the second effect of Nightmare Pain?”
Q: The effect of my Nightmare Pain “While you control a “Yubel” monster, all your opponent’s monsters that can attack must attack a “Yubel” monster” is applying. What happens in the following situations?
(A) If my opponent controls only Defense Position monsters or monsters that cannot attack due to some effect.
(B) If the only monster my opponent controls is a Blackwing Full Armor Master, which has the effect “Unaffected by other cards’ effects”.
(C) If my opponent only controls monsters that can attack directly.
A:
(A) Since your opponent has no monsters that can attack, your opponent does not have to enter their Battle Phase. However, if a monster has an effect that allows it to attack while in face-up Defense Position, your opponent must conduct their Battle Phase and attack your “Yubel” monster with that monster.
(B) Your opponent’s Blackwing Full Armor Master is unaffected by the effect of Nightmare Pain, so your opponent does not have to enter their Battle Phase. (They can still choose to enter the Battle Phase, but they can then also proceed to Main Phase 2 without attacking.)
(C) Since your opponent controls monsters that can attack, your opponent must conduct their Battle Phase and attack your “Yubel” monster with those monsters.
“If I control Infernoid Flood, how is the last effect of Void Expansion applied?”
Q: The effect of my Void Expansion “Your opponent cannot target “Infernoid” monsters you control for attacks or with card effects, except the “Infernoid” monster you control with the highest Level (either, if tied)” is applying, and I also control the Link Monster Infernoid Flood, which has no Level. In this case, can my opponent target Infernoid Flood for their attacks? Can they target Infernoid Flood with card effects?
A: Regardless of whether or not you control other “Infernoid” monsters, your opponent cannot target Infernoid Flood for attacks. However, since this effect is one that applies to your opponent’s monsters, your opponent’s monsters can still target Infernoid Flood for attacks if they are unaffected by Spell effects.
Also, regardless of whether or not you control other “Infernoid” monsters, your opponent cannot target Infernoid Flood with card effects.
