Strategic Summary:

Today’s CDP features the debut of the new Atlantis Sea Serpent archetype from the upcoming Beyond the Brave core set, a new take on the Umi theme that has all of its monsters be treated as Umi while on the field! Atlantis, City of the Sea Dragon serves as the core Field Spell of the build, reducing the level of all monsters in hand and on field by 1, then it also allows you to Link Summon Daedalus Link Monsters with less material than normally required. While this doesn’t do much on its own, it’s the support warping around it that causes the deck to function, so let’s meet the core monsters! First up is General of Atlantis (YGOrg Translation), a Level 5 that tutors any S/T that mentions their Atlantis Field Spell, then while you control Umi, it can summon itself back from the GY. Then there’s Leviathan of Atlantis – Daedalus, a Level 7 that can Special Summon itself while you control Umi or the Atlantis Field, then it also can send up to 3 Umi to the GY, tutor that many cards that mention the Field, then send any card on the field to the GY. This packs a lot of effects in one, but ultimately gives you the consistency you need to unlock the true Link Bosses of the theme.

That’s right, we’re moving onto the big Daedalus monsters now, and first is the LINK-3 Levia-Dragoon – Daedalus. On Summon, this Umi monster Special Summons any monster from Deck that mentions the Atlantis Field, plus at any point of the Main Phase, it can send a Umi you control to discard the opponent’s hand and force a re-draw. Then for the big boss, we have Azure Ocean Dragon Lord – Neo-Daedalus Rage, a LINK-4 that summons up to 3 monsters that mention the Atlantis Field from your GY, plus at any point, it can send a face-up Umi to the GY to send all non-Umi cards on the field to the GY. Since all of these cards inherently call themselves Umi, there’s a natural synergy with the support that has come before, such as Electric Jellyfish for a Spell or Monster negate, Ocean Dragon Lord – Kairyu-Shin to lock the opponent, and Fish Sonar to tutor any of the archetype while summoning a free WATER/Normal for your troubles. Out of all that, my favorite has to be Kairyu-Shin’s Dark Reef, the Normal Trap that gives you at least 2 free monsters from your deck that mention Umi.

Now that you’ve met the core characters, let’s talk about how this deck wins – stunning the opponent out of the duel entirely. You see, Kairyu-Shin prevents the opponent from amassing more than 1 non-WATER monster on the board while Umi is on the field, so that’s your first success. Second, the Level manipulation of their Field Spell can truly mess with a lot of Xyz or Synchro summoning based decks, reducing their access to the Extra Deck Toolbox most of those strategies rely upon. Third, this whole archetype consists of WATER monsters, so While Howling can ruin the opponent’s day if they just happen to be over-reliant on Spell Cards and effects. Unleash the fury of the tides, with the new and improved Atlantis/Umi strategy!
