Strategic Summary:
Today’s CDP features the return of my favorite Ritual archetype to my channel, the Nephthys archetype, this time supported by the brand new Shinobird support in AGOV! I’ve covered the Nephthys in multiple different ways by now, but the short version of this story is that the Nephthys are the first true Link/Ritual archetype, using the chain of Ritual Summoning Conductor of Nephthys to faux-Ritual Summon Devotee of Nephthys, then Special Summoning Disciple of Nephthys to gain a major leg up in the duel. Because with multiple free monsters and the threat of a returning Sacred Pheonix of Nephthys or two during your next Standby Phase, this archetype can really put an unsuspecting opponent in their place. What makes today’s combination of Spirit monsters and support cards alongside the Nephthys so potent is the fact that the new Shinobaron Field Spell in AGOV lets this hybrid theme access the Conductor combo without even drawing Conductor or a Ritual Spell! That’s right, The Himorogi where Stars Align (YGOrg Translation) can be used to Ritual Summon any WIND Ritual Monster from your Deck, including Conductor, as long as you have a Spirit monster such as Aratama or Sakitama to tribute.
While this synergy is great, did you know that there was previously another synergy between these two archetypes previously? You see, the Nephthys LINK-2 monster, Nephthys, the Sacred Preserver can use its first effect to tutor any Level 8 Winged Beast alongside recovering a Ritual Spell from your GY. Since the two Shinobaron Ritual Monsters are Level 8 Winged Beasts, that means the Nephthys have always had a way to tutor the Shinobaron bosses. Now, you just have even more synergy to play with! If you don’t like the idea of wasting Preserver’s effect on a Shinobaron that probably won’t be live until your next turn, you can actually turn to the new Sacred Fire King Garunix (YGOrg Translation) instead from their upcoming Structure Deck. This Level 8 FIRE monster can be used to get yourself an additional Level 8 in the middle of your Nephthys combos, while still ensuring that two Sacred Pheonix of Nephthys are destroyed by card effect during your first turn. As the final engine at play here, since so many of the Nephthys cards are Level 2, I even included a small Spright engine to make the most of any leftover monsters. The Nephthys are back with the new AGOV support, so be sure to check them out in a new light!
