Who let the Hysteric Pet Dragon out?
Replays:
Strategic Summary:
Today’s profile features the Harpie Lady archetype, a group of WIND Winged Beasts that own their power and whip the opponent’s backrow into submission. This archetype is defined by their field spell, Harpies’ Hunting Ground, which destroys a Spell/Trap on the field every time a Harpie Lady is Summoned. Naturally, this also means that some of their support cards also want to be destroyed. Alluring Mirror Split summons a Harpie Lady from the GY when destroyed, and Harpie Lady Elegance recovers one from the GY back to the hand, but the true destruction target is Hysteric Sign, which tutors 3 Harpie cards with different names from your Deck during the End Phase. This enables access to the theme’s most powerful card – Harpie’s Feather Storm, which shuts off ALL of your opponent’s activated monster effects for the turn.
But enough about their Spell/Trap support – All of the Harpie monsters are known for one talent – being named ‘Harpie Lady‘. Harpie Perfumer is treated as Harpie Lady on the field and GY, but whenever it is summoned you can tutor a Spell/Trap that lists Harpie Lady… unless you have a Level 5 or higher Harpie, because then you tutor two! For more tutoring, Harpie Channeler can discard a Harpie card to summon another Harpie directly from your deck. Today I also wanted to spotlight the theme’s new toy, Harpie’s Pet Dragon – Fearsome Fire Blast, which can summon itself from the hand whenever you control a Level 6 or lower WIND monster, then it can send a Winged Beast from the deck to the GY whenever it is sent there – perfectly combining with Harpie Harpist‘s GY effect! As you probably can tell, there is a lot of interplay between all of these Harpie cards, so you might just have to trust in your WIND connection to soar to new heights. Feel the crack of the electrowhip with the Harpie Ladies!
