Strategic Summary:
Welcome back for another Creative Deck Profile, and this time we’re showcasing the full power of the Ice Barrier archetype when backed by a ton of gas. The Ice Barrier theme consists of WATER monsters of various Types, that ultimately aim to Synchro Summon imposing WATER Synchro monsters such as Lancea, Ancestral Dragon of the Ice Mountain and Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Added to this mix is the new Level 9 Ekhajar, Descendant Dragon of the Ice Barrier (YGOrg Translation), a Level 9 option that combines the effects of the initial 3 Dragons. On Summon, it discards a card to banish 2 from the opponent’s Field/GY. When your opponent Special Summons, it bounces a card from the field/GY to the hand. When it is sent to GY during the opponent’s turn, it banishes 1 card from your opponent’s Hand, Field or GY. All-in-all, this is an extremely powerful tool to add to the arsenal, and it doesn’t even need 2 Non-Tuner monsters!
Now if you haven’t interacted with the Ice Barriers for a while, let me give a quick spotlight to Mirror Mage of the Ice Barrier, the card that lets this deck do so much Synchro Summoning. It can tribute any other Effect Monster, summon up to 3 Level 1 Tokens, then gain Levels up to the number of Tokens summoned. This is typically combined with Coral Dragon and Ravenous Crocodragon Archethys to draw 4 free cards, but it also happens to be a great way to trigger the effects of an Atlantean monster left on your field, as the Atlantean archetype consists of WATER/Sea Serpent monsters that trigger when sent to the GY to activate a WATER monster’s effect. In particular, Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince is a one-card star of the show, sending an Atlantean as cost to tutor another, and starting the chain of endless card advantage this theme is known for.
The final component to today’s build is the Ice Doll engine, centered around Ice Doll. This Level 2 WATER Spellcaster can discard any other WATER as cost to summon itself from hand, then tutor a WATER Spellcaster monster. While you could grab Revealer of the Ice Barrier to start those combos, I’ve also included Misstic Call (YGOrg Translation) in here to grab instead, a new Level 5 WATER/Spellcaster Tuner that banishes any Level 4 Spellcaster from Deck to summon during the End Phase. If you happen to banish Gendo the Ascetic Monk, you can enhance the locking power of your Ice Barrier endboard, locking them out of Monster Effects from Attack Position monsters, Spells with Warlock of the Ice Barrier, and GY effects with Georgius, Swordsman of the Ice Barrier. This can be a deadly combo for the unprepared, so hopefully you enjoy this ‘cool’ combination of themes working in unison to freeze out the opponent!
