Strategic Summary:

Welcome back for another Creative Deck Profile, and today I’m taking on the brand new Blitzclique archetype that was recently revealed for the upcoming CORI set. The Blitzclique consist of EARTH/Thunder monsters that share an affinity for destroying cards on the field, Special Summoning from hand, and triggering when cards on the field are destroyed. For example, Surge Blitzclique (YGOrg Translation) can reveal itself in hand and target a monster, destroy it, then Special Summon 1 Thunder monster from the hand. Then, if Surge is in the Monster Zone when a card is destroyed by card effect, it tutors any Blitzclique monster from the Deck. The ‘boss’ of the theme, so to speak, is Wisca Blitzclique (YGOrg Translation), a Level 8 that can be revealed after any card had been destroyed by your Blitzclique effect during the turn. After you do, it summons up to 3 Thunder monsters from the hand and destroys that many cards. Since the first effect of all of these monsters lock you for the rest of the turn, the theme leaves a ton of room for Extra Deck engines… such as space for another EARTH archetype!

Let’s do a quick detour to talk about the X-Saber engine employed in today’s build – in short, this engine relies upon Fire Formation – Tenki or hard-drawing X-Saber Pellina, which will summon both X-Saber Bruno and XX-Saber Garesem to the field. The first grabs Saber Combination, then both turn into X-Saber Gottoms and XX-Saber Ragigura, netting you Gottoms’ Second Call and Bruno back to hand. Second Call then brings back Perina and Garesem, and makes you a free Naturia Beast. A pure X-Saber deck might just leave things there, with Garesem being destroyed during the End Phase and tutoring you an XX-Saber Faultroll, but in here, can possibly leverage the free monster as destruction material to begin your Blitzclique plays, and still get Faultroll!

Now that the detour’s complete, let’s get back to the Blitzclique, since they also have a great supporting cast of S/T cards. First, there’s Blitzclique – Stepped Leader (YGOrg Translation), which summons a Thunder monster from hand then destroys itself, triggering any of your Blitzclique on-field effects at will. The other Spell is Blitzclique – Breakaway (YGOrg Translation), which can be used to place a Blitzclique Continuous Trap on field or to bounce a Thunder and destroy a card on the field. Lastly, they have a related Field Spell in Kowloon, Citadel of the Sky (YGOrg Translation), which summons a Level 6 Token to the opponent’s field and tutors any Blitzclique monster. Oh, and one more thing – All three Spells also have an effect in the GY to return to hand whenever a card on field is destroyed by a Blitzclique effect! As far as the Traps, Blitzclique – Return Stroke (YGOrg Translation) can negate a Spell Card/Effect and recover a Blitzclique from GY back to hand. Then there’s Blitzclique – Alternator (YGOrg Translation) which shuffles a Blitzclique card back into the deck to tutor any other Thunder monster. That’s right: this theme works with generic Thunder goodstuff too – such as Thunder King Rai-Oh and Astrolasma Urania (YGOrg Translation) – and of course, all of these Thunders are searchable by the new Lightning Crash (YGOrg Translation) Normal Spell as well! Ride the lightning with the Blitzclique and a band of more-than-10 Sabers!
