Strategic Summary:
Welcome back for another Creative Deck Profile, and this time I’m dusting off the old Salamangreat FTK strategy and enhancing it with the help of the Radiant Typhoon. If you’re unfamiliar, the crux of the FTK is to leverage Salamangreat Weasel to summon a Link monsters to the opponent’s board while you control Salamangreat Pyro Phoenix, burning the opponent for 2800 damage. Then, you can turn a FIRE monster and a Spellcaster, such as Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze, into Awakening of the Possessed – Greater Inari Fire, to burn them for another 2800 damage. Then, once Inari hits the GY, it tutors Spiritual Fire Art – Kurenai to burn for their remaining LP during the opponent’s Draw Phase. It’s a solid combo with destructive results, and while it has been feasible for a while, it always seemed like a bit of a stretch to get the Salamangreat cards you needed to initiate the combo… until now.
You see, the Radiant Typhoon engine is absolutely great at pairing with so many decks that love R3NK Xyz Monsters, such as Salamangreat Miragestalio. Any one of Radiant Typhoon Swen, Radiant Typhoon Eldam, or Radiant Typhoon Chant results in at minimum 2 Level 3 monsters pre-Normal Summon, which turns into Stallio, which summons Salamangreat of Fire, and you have pretty much all you need to pull off the FTK combo. Where this combination starts to really shine is that the Radiant Typhoon side also offers you an offramp into alternate gameplans – you don’t win or lose purely by resolving the FTK. You see, if your opponent drops a few hand traps and interrupts your path to the FTK, you can always divert into a control-lite board with Radiant Typhoon Mandate, Mystical Space Typhoon, and your combination of Salamangreat Rage, Salamangreat Roar, or whatever other tools you’ve drawn into with the help of Radiant Typhoon Vision. Embrace the burn and don’t fear losing your friends at locals, with this Salamangreat FTK strategy!
