It all returns to nothing…
SUDA-JP023 叛逆者エト Liberator Etho
Level 8 DARK Reptile Special Summon Effect Monster
ATK 4000
DEF 0
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand or GY) by paying half your LP while your opponent has a Monster Card on their field or in their GY with an effect that can activate in the hand and/or Monster Zone, but activates in response to the activation of a card or effect to do so. You can only Special Summon “Liberator Etho” once per turn this way.
(1) This card’s Special Summon cannot be negated.
(2) This card in the Monster Zone cannot be used as material for a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Summon, also it is unaffected by monster effects activated on your opponent’s field during your turn only.
Note, to explain this card:
This card looks at every monster card in your opponent’s Graveyard, and that they control on their field, including their spell/trap zones, and typically checks their text for the word “When”. If one of those monsters can be activated in the hand or on the field ‘when’ a card would activate itself or its effect, it meets the conditions for this card, and you can summon it from your hand or Graveyard by paying half your life points. Here are some example text strings:
• When a card or effect is activated
• When a monster effect is activated
• When your opponent activates a card or effect
• When your opponent activates a monster effect
• When an opponent’s monster activates its effect
• When an opponent’s card activates its effect
• When you activate a card or effect
• When you activate a monster effect
• When your monster activates its effect
• When your card activates its effect
There are also some MANDATORY “If” trigger conditions like those found on Doomcalibur Knight, Gogogo Golem – Golden Form, and Light and Darkness Dragonlord. These 3 also would work for this new card.

the art is really cool. wish it didn’t suck balls
Unless I’ve misread it this card summons itself as a 4k beatstick that is unaffected by your opponent during your turn at the cost of your opponent resolving a hand trap. That’s seems pretty good to me
@JB Does nothing going second, why would you play this instead of a hand trap?
It does stuff going second. It’s actually for beating over their boss monsters.
It’s a decent going 2nd card. Very easy to get it on board and will beat over one of their interruptions, and they can’t stop it usually.
> Does nothing going second, why would you play this instead of a hand trap?
If they summoned any form of negation, you just drop this on the field and it’s unaffected. If anything, it’s better going second, going first, it’s just an extender.
>Gamaciel in the hand smiling deviously at Etho.
The feeling when you Tributed Etho with a Kaiju instead of the actual threat on your opponent’s field. Sure you are a godly player.
Using a Kaiju on a 4k beatstick
@Nikoness @Hitback
It isn’t about Tributing over Etho. It’s smiling deviously at Etho because they’re buddies! The idea is once it’s dropped over an opponent’s monster, Etho sees its negate effect (cuz it’s now on the opponent’s field) and joins the party
Evangelion music kick in
reptile?
Reptile is also the “alien” type.
The card gives the feeling it would’ve had some crazy OP Boss effect… but it is basically just a dull beatstick with a pinch of protection slapped on top… whatz the point of this thing?
It punishes your opponent for playing Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring or boss monsters with effects that negate another card.
Basically it’s a 4000 ATK board breaker meant to give you a chance at a counter attack.
@NeoArkadia
Nothing surprising there as it is obviously meant to be mainly used against handtraps just by reading the effect. That still doesn’t make it very useful, pretty much nobody are gonna break boards by just summoning a fairly big beatstick that you can’t even use as material for a better boss monster. Perhaps in practice it will be better then I assume… but personally I wouldn’t want to put in my own deck just to brick on it half the time, and didn’t draw it when I needed it the other half of the time.
@Fumetsusozo Why would you want to get rid of it? A 4000 atk beatstick that is protected from you opponent’s on field monster effects sounds like something you want to keep. And the no using it for extra decking sounds like it’s to prevent your opponent from using their extra deck to get rid of it, which is a common tactic.
@yukicrewger2
The card’s small monster effect protection effect only works on your own turn, meaning it is the easiest thing ever for your opponent to remove during their turn… So unless you are going for a cheesy OTK combo instantly after summoning it, otherwise keeping this card on your field is worthless, as you will want SOMETHING that can disrupt the opponent’s plays during their turn. Yes It is true the opponent can’t tribute for cards like Underworld Goddess… but they obviously will have a ton of other ways to nuke it, so that part barely matters, it will get in your way more then anything. The card isn’t seemingly awful, but we don’t live in caveman Yugioh times where a beatstick that does little else is gonna win you many games.
@Fumetsusozo Ah, now that makes more sense. I thought it was more along the lines of the seemingly irrational hatred some people have for cards that are just beatsticks based solely on the fact they are beatsticks.
Then again, I have to wonder how Liberator Etho (who doesn’t have a kakashi minecraft skin) would handle flip effect monsters. Would it be protected from Man-Eater Bug, or the various effects of the Shaddoll archetype?
@yukicrewger2
Neh, I don’t hate beatsticks… as a Chaos MAX Turbo deck player I do love huge boss monsters! Hahaa! Also I am already testing “Liberator Etho” in EDOpro… it seems bit easier to summon then I expected, but it doesn’t really help me break boards as some folk are suggesting it should… which is what I predicted.
Carnot and Etho have a lot in common. Both being generic URs in an October set, revealed on social media immediately before release, nomi, can summon themselves from hand or GY if your opponent has played the game, is searchable in specific Decks, but both ultimately do nothing after being brought out.
Go 2nd
Dark hole + duster for a clean board
Play w/e searcher
Hope they ash/mulcharmy
Summon this
Megamorph
Attack
Win
You get this starting hand and setup once every 100 games or so. xD
That’s a waste of artwork
Nahh this card is kinda tight
First one to say this, but doesn’t this look like Worm Zero? The Fusion Monster? Both reptiles?
not immune to back row so meh …
Which is the point. Like Carnot before it, it is designed around responding to monsters not backrow.
Most of the time the danger is on monster effects nowadays, not backrow.
When effects about to make the opponent be the one missing the timing
Reptile?
Does that mean there’s new support for worms coming?
It looks like a coloney drop from gundam
Very clearly End of Eva fashioned. The art is actually pretty siiiiick. Instrumentality feels. Maybe a nifty little power push for Ogdoadic to kill your opponent with raw beats?
Didn’t read the card…….Beautiful!
the summoning condition is longer than both effects
also only immune to monster effects? ok
Maybe if it were immune to more than just a very narrow selection of things (specifically only monster effects that activate on field, and only during your own turn) it might be useful. Unfortunately, it’s ass.
Very unique card, but I think it needed protection during both turns since it’s only from monster effects (and still gets Nibiru’d on your turn)
For that fee, it should’ve had more protection. it’s like Rainbow Dragon meets Dinomorphia.
Was first thinking this was a libromance card. But not sad day
Reptile? Looks more like a Fiend or Fairy but I guess it’s a hint to our reptilian overlords.
Bruhhh wtf is this card effect text.
Perfect card for newcomers to unterstand👍🏻
For some reason my mind instantly went to Guardian Eatos when reading the name.
Anyway, it’s gimmicky and suffers from the worst part of YGO (rulings and card text) but it’s funny and has a practical use of it’s gimmick unlike some others. Kinda reminds me of how some generic Rush duel boss monsters work though not as complicated
For the one who wants to say f*ck you to his opponent’s omni-negative boss monster 🙂
Considering that they are becoming more and more accessible, immunity to spells/traps should be more common but I guess Konami just wanted to fill slots
From the looks of it, you might also be able to pull off some OTKs with this card going second, and makes it easier to give you the opportunity of reducing dropping the amount of monsters needed on your field (you just need at least 2 monsters to do the rest of the 4k damage). And considering hand traps mostly involved monsters activating in response to your opponent’s card effects and end board monsters usually end up being negates, this is very easy to summon.
Some of these cards have too much faith in it’s players reading ability.
Reference to Evangelion?
hope it’ll come with some field/continuous spell with a bunch of crosses
This is the kind of card that makes me think the artwork is sometimes made independent of the card. What does Instrumentality have to do with this effect?
if it werent for the Diabell lore still going. this would fit perfetcly alongside Tierra/Sophia/Alvida.
…only unnafected in YOUR turn? Wow, they were so close to making a actually good card lol, what is even the point of all that wall of text if it basically amounts to nothing
This isn’t some “haha gotcha you filthy meta player” card, its just a beatstick with zero protection whatsoever
Beatstick with zero protection? Remember the whole “protection during your turn?” thing? When is a beatstick used again?
Oh yeah, your turn.
this is the first time im ever commenting about a new card simply because i have to say that everyone in here has become dumb asf at the sight of this card acting like it is in any way a good card omg like instead of trying to convince yourself that this is a good card just because its a 4k beatstick how about ask yourself why you would EVER play this over any other boardbreaker or hand trap hollyyyyyy
I could see it in a deck like tear or lightsworn as a reusable board breaker.
Like if you can play one copy of this and see it every game, that probably increases your win rate
Cool concept, but I doubt this will ever be considered for serious play. Surely there’s a better card that you would play in place of this that would be more impactful.
Eh, you could Link summon Reptilianne Echidna. It turns a monster your opponent controls to 0ATK. Then use it to search Etho. Your opponent dares to respond, you get to summon Etho and beat up their 0ATK monster for 4000 battle damage.
Indirect Dinomorphia Support
it can also work with Gold Pride, with this and the new snake eyes fusion, the deck can pack a punch.
Okay card going second, but the fact that it eorks from the GY is important.
Dump this thing and threaten lethal if they dare use a hand trap or monster with a negate or SP.
There might be a going second Reptile archtype in a future set.
More reptile support next year. Next year is year of the Snake.
It also means that your opponent will have to either banish Etho or bounce it back to the deck to truly get rid of it, otherwise you can just resummon Etho on your next turn.
Get ready SERIOUS gamers are rising up!
That card is competing with Inspector Boarder for the title of Worst Text In Yugioh™
Inspector Boarder STILL requires me to reread it twice every time I play against it. This one seems easier to remember since its mostly the one playing it that has to understand it.
Bad card, there’s a host of mediocre boardbreaker cards no one plays that are better than this already example 1 Tribute Kaijus which have been obsolete for years.
Sacrificing your Battle Phase to remove 1 Monster is not worth it whatsoever there is a reason the only other boardbreaker to sacrifice your BP is Evenly Matched (and anti-magic arrows but we don’t talk about that) and a resolved Evenly is worth it losing the BP because it’s an actual huge swing. And no DRNM does not sacrifice your BP, you cannot OTK but you can remove all your opponents monsters via battle still which is the most efficient form of removal.
The fact you lose half your LP is also so ??? So your opponent will have an incredibly easy time to OTK you on turn 3 or you flat out lose in time due to this.
What are you talking about sacrificing the battle phase? Also you do know that this card doesn’t work on it’s own right? It’s not like it wants you to change anything, this card reacts to one card negation or such and is one extra body on field. It can probably hit over something you are might have trouble with and is meant to die soon after. That’s it. The LP reduction doesn’t matter at all. This card is meant for playing around monster heavy negate decks and decks that like to get rid of your cards to summon their own (besides tribute).
Dark Ruler no more is better yes. And yes if it only works on your turn I think blanket protection from effects would have been fair, but despite that, it’s not meant to replace Dark Ruler, it’s not even meant to save a game from defeat. It just lets you replace a card that was destroyed or negated during your turn with a beatstick to hopefully kill Dragun or something that would make it harder to play if they are on the field.
I don’t know why people are so filtered by this card. It’s not that complicated – it’s another contingency plan for decks that really don’t like having their searcher being hit with Joyo etc, this time one that puts a 4k beat stick on the field so in ideal scenario if you have something else to put next to it you can just hit your opponent face and win or at least punch holes in their LP big enough for them being forced to play more cautiously. In ideal scenario there’s no opponent’s turn anymore and even if there would be – I’ll gladly take opponent using their removal on quasi-vanilla I got for half-free over whatever I may do in next turns, lmao.
Is this card good? No, because there are better cards letting us push through our opponent’s hand traps and bosses with negation. But it’s still salvageable card that will probably see some play.
It all comes tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down
