Dip into the icy blue Waters…
Replays:
Strategic Summary:
Today’s Casual Deck Profile takes a fun approach to the WATER attribute by showcasing the Penguin theme, empowered by a few other WATER archetypes. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Penguins, this group of WATER Aqua monsters revolve around Big Emperor Penguin, a Level 5 that can tribute itself to Special Summon 2 other Penguin monsters from the deck. It can summon options like Nopenguin, Penguin Squire, Penguin Cleric, or even Glacial Beast Polar Penguin, all of which aim to flood the field with potential, and unlock efficient Synchro Summoning. You see, Nopenguin can Special Summon itself from the GY the first time a Penguin monster’s effect is activated, letting it be a renewable resource! Plus, once you do have the right materials for a Level 6 Synchro Summon, you can elect to summon Penguin Brave, which Special Summons a Penguin from your Deck in face-down Defense, in addition to carrying a Quick Effect to flip a face-down WATER monster face-up.
The rest of this deck is entirely designed to serve the Big Emperor, whether it is facilitating its summon (aka Fishborg Harpooner, Mermaid Shark, or Royal Penguin Gardens) or just add additional threats to your board. Speaking of threats, let’s dive into the depths where the Ghoti are waiting. This WATER Fish theme Special Summons themselves from your banishment, giving you unexpected Synchro Summons while discouraging your opponent from committing too much to the board. The Ghoti engine also is fairly small and self-contained – if you do end up getting the materials for a Level 6 Synchro Summon, you can effectively access the whole archetype through the effect of Arionpos, Serpent of the Ghoti when it banishes Psiics, Moonlight of the Ghoti. Also, the primary Ghoti monsters all have low ATK, synergizing extremely well with Ocean of Regeneration (YGOrg Translation), the new Continuous Spell that Special Summons back a WATER monster from your GY with 1000 or less ATK each turn. Shiver away with the Penguin, Ghoti, and more!
