The “Azamina” have come to collect! [ROTA-JP]

    SatchmoBy SatchmoJuly 7, 202460 Comments

    Run them pockets, Diabellstar.

Note: Azamina derives its theme name from Azami, the Japanese word for “Thistle”. Thistles are known in Abrahamic faiths as plants that were part of God’s curse on the earth for the Original Sin committed by Adam and Eve of eating the Fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

ROTA-JP030 Azamina Rhea Silvia / Azamina Rhea Silvera

Note: Rhea Silvera is the name of the mother of Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome.

ROTA-JP031 Azamina Mu Lucielago / Azamina Mu Rcielago
DARK Illusion / Fusion / Effect
    LV6 2000/2400
1 Illusion monster + 1 LIGHT Spellcaster monster

    (2) Monsters your opponent controls lose 500 ATK/DEF for each “Azamina” monster you control.
    (3) If this card is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can add 1 “Sinful Spoils” Spell from your Deck to your hand.

Note: Murcielago is the Spanish word for Bat.

    ROTA-JP032 Azamina Sol Erysichthon
DARK Illusion / Fusion / Effect
    LV6 2700/0
    1 Illusion monster + 1 Fiend monster

    (2) During each Standby Phase: You can target 1 “Azamina” or “Sinful Spoils” card in your GY; add it to your hand.

Note: Sol is Latin for “Sun”. Erysichthon is the name of a Greek King who committed a crime against a Nymph under the protection of Demeter, and for his crimes, was cursed with never ending hunger and thirst.

Note: This card’s name seems to be a combination of Morrigan, the triple Goddess of Eire who were often depicted by a Crow, and the word “Regina”, which means “Queen”.

So… Diabell took their likeness and sealed them to the Spoils after giving Risette the Snake Apple? This lore is confusing, VBEX4 save me.

      • Garreon on July 8, 2024 9:08 am

Not really, what I infer from this is that Risette and Asteria broke the seal that kept Moa Regina trapped by partaking in one of the fruits of the forest. Risette was the one that may have spurred Asteria to do it as well.
Rcia and Silva tried to intervene and save the apprentices, but Moa Regina cursed them turning them into berserk sinful spoils.
Diabell intervened, calmed down both of them, turning them into their object forms, and giving them to Asteria. She then tasked the kid into looking for the Snake Eye which may be the only thing capable of dealing with Moa Regina. She gave Asteria part of her power and her title as her successor, Diabellstar.
Obviusly Diabell was not able to stop Moa Regina and was, most likely, killed. Moa Regina proceeded to do the same thing Diabell did with Asteria. Using whatever leftover power was behind after Diabell’s death and made Risette into her emisary, Diabellze.

The normal spell really looking mid next to the quickplay huh

      • MystikX on July 8, 2024 12:09 am

Normal Spell isn’t a OPT for the Fusion Summon effect.

      • N on July 8, 2024 12:27 am

It can recover itself and its Fusion Summon effect is not HOPT.

      • TheToyMaker'sFunTime on July 8, 2024 6:46 am

Not to mention, you don’t really have to put any of their non-Fusion monsters just to recycle this Fusion Spell. You could literally recycle one of their Fusion monsters just to recycle that spell, so now you have another chance to Fusion summon that Fusion monster again.

    3. N on July 7, 2024 11:58 pm

The other Sinful Spoils Trap is missing.

      • J. D. Guy on July 8, 2024 12:34 am

They gave it its own article. I guess because it’s not directly related to the Azamina theme like Sinful Spoils Deception is.

      • N on July 8, 2024 12:58 am

I wrote this comment just before the article was published.

    4. Jojo on July 8, 2024 12:02 am

Hopefully we get a lore Light Spellcaster. Lots of people are saying Cartesia, but theres no way to search her without using a branded engine. Im using these cards in Illusion Chimera, not Branded Chimera

      • Bruno Santo on July 8, 2024 12:08 am

White Woods exists for that, but Konami has forgotten it.

      • Kevin on July 8, 2024 12:27 am

@Brunto What do you mean? White Woods is literally getting support in this same set

      • User on July 8, 2024 2:58 am

You mean to say that it already got support but yes. I believe the engine is complete and doesn’t really need anything, still it’s not like you need a light Spellcaster since you ain’t summoning any of these fusion with the materials listed

      • Baroque on July 8, 2024 6:48 pm

No, User, Kevin means exactly what was said — The Fiend of the White Woods comes out in ROTA alongside these cards; it may have been REVEALED before these were, but Kevin is correct that it’s coming out in the same set as these.

Thinking about it, Azamina as a whole might be the intended use case FOR Fiend, since these Fusions are all Illusions and their Fusion Spells are built in such a way that it won’t ask for anything other than for you to run some more “Sinful Spoils”, Rhea and Mu can be fused off White Woods mats without Sacred, and Sinful Spoils Deception is able to play nice with either Azamina Spells OR White Woods monsters’ costs.

    5. User on July 8, 2024 12:03 am

      Ofeiletis – debt (in greek)
Hamartia – a fatal flaw leading to the downfall of a tragic hero or heroine.

      • Logic Bomb on July 8, 2024 12:36 am

        That bodes well…

      • Hadriel on July 8, 2024 10:10 am

Mu Rcielago – united is Murcielago which is Bat (in spanish)

    6. ScionStorm on July 8, 2024 12:04 am

Another DARK Fusion deck. WIND or WATER Fusion deck would be nice at least once a decade. But at least a full Illusion archetype, finally.

      • Astra on July 8, 2024 4:47 am

Ah yes, Devil like creature related to a Dark and Light monster should be water

      • Baby Gronk on July 8, 2024 7:48 am

We literally just got new ritual beast support what are you on

    7. Bruno Santo on July 8, 2024 12:08 am

Ok…. Can we agree that Konami already wants to forget/get rid of White Woods?

      • bruh on July 8, 2024 12:56 am

        >came out one main set ago
“bro why konami already forgot about :(“

      • N on July 8, 2024 1:01 am

White Woods was designed to be limited in scope due to it being connected to a flashback.
Azamina is similarly also limited in scope as their demonic forms were quickly sealed away in the new Sinful Spoils.

      • User on July 8, 2024 3:03 am

I doubt that. I think diabelze and diabellstar have returned to finish this business after what happened in the cards of the last set(I believe diabelze is holding poplar in the art of that trap)
Also, diabellstar defeated the monsters with the weapons of the same name as seen in the artwork of ofeiletis so they existed at the same time

      • Design on July 8, 2024 3:13 am

OK… can we agree konami wants to forget/get rid of Bruno?

      • Zeru on July 8, 2024 5:38 am

this is literally playable with White Wood so this can be consider as a White Wood support specially with White wood having access with Cartesia with Asteria’s effect, I now understand why the new White Wood quick-play only revives Illusion

      • Name on July 8, 2024 10:23 am

As others mentioned – WWs literally were in the previous set and got at least one new card in ROTA, too.
And as N pointed out – due to how they are placed in the current timeline and how they are telling us about events from the past the amount of cards for them was already planned from the start. Tho I suppose when we get obligatory Diabellstar and Diabellze team-up card(s) against whatever will be final big bad, it may be White Woods card(s) to mark their past friendship.

      • Stardust Dragon on July 8, 2024 12:07 pm

So, you can mix it, with “White Woods” then… Surely fun to play…

      • Naraku on July 11, 2024 1:27 pm

No, we can’t agree on that. They just came out one set ago, bro…

        So… Yugioh Arc V?

    9. HunterHQ on July 8, 2024 12:11 am

      Can mix with white woods?

      • Mathematical on July 8, 2024 6:58 am

This kinda reminds me of runick since all of them are fusion monsters and can be cheated out with their spell and trap cards

      • kost1te321 on July 8, 2024 8:30 am

@Mathematical not really, its more like the heart of legend dragon spell.

      • CasterMaster on July 9, 2024 4:31 pm

its possible with cards like “proxy f magician”, but it would be a choke point in any white woods deck, as you cant search it, just hope you get “diabellstar” in your opening hand and you should be fine

    10. ChaosMAX1268 on July 8, 2024 12:28 am

While the monster effects are pretty standard Yugioh affair I like their visual design and the alternative summoning mechanics with their spells and I think traps.

    11. Logic Bomb on July 8, 2024 12:39 am

Konami…I need you to add a few more restrictions to the Sinful Spoils story archetypes

      • kost1te321 on July 8, 2024 1:47 am

unfortunately this is a big lore deck, if we look at albaz lore, almost all of them does not have a restriction or have a way to play around their restriction (for example, spright and dogmatika)

    12. Anon on July 8, 2024 1:02 am

A bit confused on something that may seem obvious: do the spell/traps round up or down? (Ie do the level 6 fusions need 2 SS to summon off these, or just 1?)

      • User on July 8, 2024 1:14 am

It’s 1 spell for every 4,there’s only one (whole) 4 in 6 so 1 spell.

      • Snow on July 8, 2024 1:50 am

        Neither. It’s 1 for every 4. 6 only has a single 4 within it. So send 1.

      • Regiruler on July 8, 2024 8:12 am

What are you two basing that on? The nearest neighbor to this is ritual summoning, and to me it makes most sense to view them as level 4 tributes.

      • User on July 8, 2024 8:58 am

That’s stupid. Some ritual spells specifically say “equal or exceed the level” . This one is worded “for every level 4” if you took that 6 has 1.5 4’s and you round it up to 2,then you’re saying that 6 has 2 4’s or 6≥8,which is dumb.

    13. Naransolongo_DB on July 8, 2024 3:18 am

Seems like this is meant to be focused on Diabellze, being Illusions and setting up her Special Summon (have a Sinful Spoil in either GY). Not sure how you’d facilitate the Rciela/Silvera destruction effects in engine though.

Seems more like a side piece which is a shame since I’d love to run a full Diabellze deck. She’s got me by the heart after the reference art for her

      • Gnarz on July 8, 2024 3:33 am

Konami not release the new most busted engine every other set challenge (impossible)

    14. Weeevil on July 8, 2024 4:44 am

Is this the new theme that’s also gonna be in INFO because they said the new theme would get support in ROTA or is this completely different?

      • Ddd on July 8, 2024 6:37 am

        @Weeevil

White woods is the only new them related to diabellestar that was introduced in INFO.

You are probably thinking of the new tcg exclusive archetype that has yet to be revealed.

    15. Prairie on July 8, 2024 5:27 am

No waifu, loli, machine and/or dragon bs ?

      Take my money.

      • kost1te321 on July 8, 2024 8:33 am

unfortunately, you kinda have to play diabellstar

    16. WiLd on July 8, 2024 7:14 am

so the fusions are lvl 6 (beatrice)
every deck has an omni on the 1st summon and every turn after since it recycles
this goes hard in illusion chimera

    17. master 89 on July 8, 2024 7:32 am

      what s azamina mean

      • Articz on July 8, 2024 8:29 am

Yeah, I wonder if it has meaning like “azamuku” in Japanese, which means the trickster/to decieve. That one (azamina) probably not from Japanese vocabulary

      • AJ on July 9, 2024 6:07 am

        it’s just thistle in japanese

    18. Ehs on July 8, 2024 10:19 am

This looks very interesting. Pretty nice gimmick, like an updated version of legendary dragons fusion spells.

    19. Stardust Dragon on July 8, 2024 10:35 am

Something tells me, this deck can run Dogmatika punishment… Might as well go and run Traptrick at 3, to abuse Dogmatika punishment in this deck XD

      Joking lmao 😂

    20. Stardust Dragon on July 8, 2024 12:05 pm

The joke aside, it seems to be a decent rogue, looks like it is playable, just not meta worthy, but hey! Who expects this to be meta anyway?

    21. VS Enjoyer on July 8, 2024 12:49 pm

      More indirect Chimera support

    22. Warhaden on July 8, 2024 9:34 pm

That Diabeelze in Azamina Hamartia’s art is giving me goosebumps. She is so freakin’ cool there!

    23. yukicrewger2 on July 9, 2024 1:45 pm

huh… smallest “Azamina” Engine, works best in decks that use a lot of Sinful Spoils cards

      – “Azamina Sol Erysichthon”
      – “Sacred Azamina”

activate Sacred, sac a Sinful Spoil to summon Sol and use his/its effects to recover any Sinful Spoil you want/need each turn until it gets destroyed. Then activate Sacred’s graveyard effect, add Sol back to the Extra Deck, Sacred back to the hand, then just repeat as needed

The fact each time he’s summoned he can activate a non-destruction removal is just a bonus in my opinion. A perfect addition to any Snake-Eye, White Woods, or Illusion deck that utilized a lot of Sinful Spoils. That “Sacred Azamina” can target Sol when its on the field or in the graveyard means you also get the option for effect dodging if done right/when needed
