“If I activate multiple copies of Mirror of the Ice Barrier, do their effects stack?”
Q: If I activate multiple copies of Mirror of the Ice Barrier, do their effects stack? For example, if I activated 2 copies of Mirror of the Ice Barrier, and the only card in my hand was banished by the effect of my opponent’s Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier that turn, how many cards will be banished from my opponent’s hand?
A: If you activated multiple copies of Mirror of the Ice Barrier, the number of cards they banish stacks. Therefore, in the above example, up to 4 random cards are banished from your opponent’s hand.
**Note: This is a reversal. Prior to this ruling (dated May 17), multiple copies of Mirror would not stack.
“If the attack is not negated by the effect of Nekroz of Valkyrus, does the Battle Phase end?”
Q: If the first effect of Nekroz of Valkyrus is activated, but the attacking monster is no longer face-up in the Monster Zone due to the effect of Compulsory Evacuation Device being chained, will the Battle Phase end?
A: In this scenario, the attack cannot be negated by the effect of Nekroz of Valkyrus, so the part of the effect that ends the Battle Phase is also not applied.
Similarly, this applies to the following effects if the attacking monster is no longer face-up in the Monster Zone when their effects resolve, so the Battle Phase does not end.
– Swift Scarecrow
– Flower Cardian Paulownia
– Naturia Stinkbug
– Cosmic Blazar Dragon
– Armor Ninjitsu Art of Freezing
– Shinobird Salvation
– Ambush Fangs
“Under which circumstances can I apply the second effect of Shrine of Wedju?”
Q: In each of the following situations, if my face-up “Millennium” monster is destroyed by battle or effect, can I apply the effect of Shrine of Wedju and place that card face-up in my Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell instead of sending it to the GY?
(A) When the effect of Black Rose Dragon destroys Shrine of Wedju in my Field Zone and “Millennium” monsters in my Monster Zone at the same time.
(B) When Shrine of Wedju is in my Field Zone, there are 5 cards in my Spell & Trap Zones, and a face-up “Millennium” monster in my Monster Zone and a card in my Spell & Trap Zone are destroyed by an effect at the same time.
(C) When Shrine of Wedju is in my Field Zone, a “Millennium” monster in my Monster Zone is equipped with an Equip Card, and there are 5 cards in my Spell & Trap Zone (including the Equip Card), and that equipped “Millennium” monster is destroyed by battle or effect.
(D) When Shrine of Wedju is in my Field Zone, there are 4 cards in my Spell & Trap Zones, and 2 or more face-up “Millennium” monsters in my Monster Zone are destroyed by an effect at the same time.
(E) When an effect such as Dimension Shifter is applying, and a face-up “Millennium” monster in my Monster Zone is destroyed by battle or effect.
A:
(A) The effect cannot be applied.
(B) If a card in your Spell & Trap Zone is destroyed and its zone becomes usable, the effect can be applied. (It cannot be applied if Shrine of Wedju is also destroyed at the same time.)
(C) The effect can be applied.
(D) The effect can be applied. If it is applied, choose 1 of the destroyed “Millennium” monsters and place it in the Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell.
(E) The effect can be applied.
“While the effect of Sangen Summoning is applying, what happens if an effect is chained to the second effect of Tenpai Dragon of Genroku that would negate the activation of that effect?”
Q: While I control Sangen Summoning and Tenpai Dragon of Genroku, I activate the second effect of Tenpai Dragon of Genroku during my Main Phase 1. If my opponent chains the first effect of Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times, will the activation be negated?
A: The activation is negated. The effect of Sangen Summoning is applied to FIRE Dragon monsters that are face-up in your Monster Zone. When the effect of Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times resolves, Tenpai Dragon of Genroku is no longer in the Monster Zone, so the effect of Sangen Summoning is not applied to it, and the effect of Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times is applied normally.
“If a Monster Card treated as a Spell Card while on the field is sent to the GY to activate a monster effect, can the second effect of Asteria of the White Woods be activated?”
Q: While Asteria of the White Woods is in my GY, I send a Toy Soldier from my Spell & Trap Zone to the GY to activate the effect of Risette of the White Woods. In this case, can I activate the second effect of Asteria of the White Woods after resolving the Chain?
A: No, you cannot. When a card is sent to the GY, refer to its original card type for this effect.
“Can I activate Millennium Cross if the effect of G.B. Hunter is applying?”
Q: While the effect “Cards on the field cannot be returned to the Deck” of G.B. Hunter is applying, can I activate Millennium Cross? Also, if G.B. Hunter is Special Summoned by an effect chained to the activation of Millennium Cross, so that its Continuous Effect is applying when Millennium Cross resolves, what happens?
A: Millennium Cross cannot be activated if the effect of G.B. Hunter is applying. Also, if the effect of G.B. Hunter is applying when Millennium Cross resolves, you will still show 5 “Forbidden One” cards from your hand, Deck, or face-up field and Special Summon The Phantom Exodia Incarnate from your Extra Deck, but the part of the effect that returns Monster Cards on the field other than “Millennium” cards and “Exodia” cards with an original Level of 10 or higher is not applied. (No cards on the field are returned to the Deck, and they remain on the field.)
The part of the effect “you cannot Summon monsters for the rest of this turn (but you can Normal Set)” is still applied, but Millennium Cross is sent to the GY afterward.
“If I Special Summon Drytron Meteonis Quadrantids or Drytron Meteonis Draconids with the effect of Drytron Meteonis Alpha Draconids, can the second effect of each of those monsters be activated/applied?”
Q: If I Special Summoned Drytron Meteonis Quadrantids with the third effect of Drytron Meteonis Alpha Draconids, can I activate the effect of Drytron Meteonis Quadrantids that destroys all Spell/Trap Cards my opponent controls?
Also, if I Special Summoned Drytron Meteonis Draconids with the effect of Drytron Meteonis Alpha Draconids, can that Drytron Meteonis Draconids attack all Special Summoned monsters my opponent controls once each?
A: The effect of Drytron Meteonis Quadrantids Special Summoned by the effect of Drytron Meteonis Alpha Draconids cannot be activated, and the effect of Drytron Meteonis Draconids Special Summoned by the effect of Drytron Meteonis Alpha Draconids cannot be applied.
“If a monster that was Summoned/Set or attacked this turn is banished and returned to the Monster Zone by the effect of Interdimensional Matter Translocator, can its battle position be changed?”
Q: If the effect of Interdimensional Matter Translocator is activated targeting a monster that was Summoned/Set this turn, or changed its battle position this turn, can the monster’s battle position be changed that turn it returns to the Monster Zone? Also, if a monster that declared an attack that turn is banished by the effect of Interdimensional Matter Translocator and returned to the Monster Zone, can it be changed to Defense Position during Main Phase 2?
A: In any of those cases, you can change the monster’s battle position.
