Whoo hoo! Finally some XYZ retrains!
I don’t think Y and Z have the same primary effect. And by numbers we don’t have a level 8 Fusion that lists ANY of the XYZ retrains. So that’s confusing.
I think the idea is you play this along side the ABC stuff and/or the original VWXYZ unions

Most of these are just ABC but worse. But X is insane.
So did the original Y and Z. So by your logic, Konami was already out of ideas when Magician’s Force came out.
Y is supposed to equip the monster from your hand or Graveyard while Z is from banishment.

These feel pretty lazy and unimaginative for the most part, not gonna lie
So the new fusion basically tags out into either the ABC or the original XYZ pieces (ABC-Dragon Buster and XYZ-Dragon Cannon are both level 8), which as of now you cannot access at the same time (or in the same combo) as the new XYZ pieces. Although the new spell helps with that somewhat, it’s not great in my opinion. By far the worst of the 3 themes in this set.

Damn I was really hoping for Arcana Force support. I guess we’ll be getting it in a future core set. Same with Ancient Fairy Dragon upgrade.

Probably deliberate, but the new retrains not counting themselves as the originals on the field or in the GY definitely weakens these a bit.
Also Union Controller specifically needing the new Y or Z monster, and not just any LIGHT Machine Union monster as its other material. is awful.

Why is it saying Kaiba, but it shows Chazz. With Chazzs deck. I’m confused.
Wtf is the point of the final effect on that spell card? No cards in this theme meet those requirements.
If at least said 2800 or more ATK, it could search Light and Darkness Dragon, a Chazz card that can’t be Special Summoned. I don’t think he has any other Tribute bosses.

Although it appears to be a GX Deck, support is more focused on DM Deck.
I honestly wasn’t expecting Retrains for XYZ Monsters, but I guess nostalgia is strong.
Ironically, XYZ was one of my candidates to bring to Rush Duels with buffs or Retrains.
So here’s the rundown of how many characters are represented for each series in the Attribute DPs:
DM: 5 (Marik, Espa, Mako, Ishizu, Kaiba)
GX: 1 (Axel)
5Ds: 3 (Aporia, Sherry, Leo)
ZEXAL: 3 (Nasch, Alito, Mizar)
ARC-V: 3 (Yugo, Ruri, Tyler Sisters)
VRAINS: 3 (Blue Angel, Soulburner, Blue Maiden)
Just think we could of gotten Ojama, Cyber Girl, Cyber Dragon or Arcana Force support in this pack. Someone at Konami clearly hates GX.
Marik had mostly WATER monsters in his pack anyway and Kaiba wasn’t needed.
Those two slots could have easily went to a GX character.
Observations:
– ITS GX-OVER! It seems like they only chose Axel because they didn’t have any other better options for FIRE Decks.
– All options for ZEXAL are Barians. F for any Secondary Character that did need a Deck renewal.
– Aoi has been in two packages curiously: each one with a different appearance.
– Ishizu and Tyler Sisters are the most bizarre options to choose from, especially for EARTH Decks: the first one wasn’t even a Deck to begin with.
– Marik infiltrated a package that did not belong to him, the DARK package.
Personal opinion: Mako should have been replaced by Rio, someone who did need to renew her Deck (since he is insistent)
Cyber Girls are EARTH Warriors. Cyber Dragons both normal and Dark have already been featured in DP. Arcana Force was the major GX contender. We could have also got Helios.
Outside of GX there were many different duelists to choose from. Instead we got secondary Galaxy-Eyes duelist, girl who was already featured in the WATER DP and moar Kaiba
On that note when are we going to get Doll Parts? I remember when that deck appeared on a poll back in 2020 but Konami has ignored it every since.

Justin, Syd’s Wheel deck was last place on that poll. We got his Synchro (and nothing else) last year’s AC. Caswell’s Debuggers we’re second to last place and we’re getting his Antidote Nurse this year. Looks like they are going from the bottom up.

I am curious what Y Dragon Yearhead’s name means. Xross is like cross so it kinda represents its combining nature and Zillion is an informal term for a large number so it ties into machines.

Beetrons are EARTH unfortunately, and all of these cards only support LIGHT Machine or lock you into LIGHT Extra Deck for the rest of the turn.

It breaks my heart not seeing Cyber Angels here, not even the Arcana forces. The GX hate its getting out of hand. Now i can only wait till they retrain the cyber girls in a main booster pack so they support cyber angels.

^ Antique gears already have a specific “cannot set” clause just to avoid interaction with one spell. There’s no reason Arcana Force can’t have “you cannot skip your opponent’s turn during the turn you activate this effect.”

Which is fitting, given Kaiba used XYZ-Dragon Cannon to Summon Obelisk, but since, obviously, Fusions don’t count as multiple monsters (unless they have an effect that counts them as multiple Tributes like Egyptian God Slime) like the anime/manga did, Union Activation’s second effect makes more sense.

Whelp, this immediately makes XYZ-Hyper Dragon Cannon infinitely better than XYZ-Dragon Cannon IMO. No longer would I have to put extra cards just to retrieve the base cards because they got destroyed before I could contact fuse
The only thing the original XYZ has over the new is that the OG’s destruction effect is not once per turn.

Personally as a big Kaiba fan I am happy to see remakes of the XYZ machine cards… even if the ABC set was more or less remakes too. Hopefully we can get some different Kaiba cards like a Swordstalker remake sometime. I also would like to see a new take on Crush Card Virus requiring a light monster for tribute.
How about releasing a Duos card based on Kaiba’s old Ka from ancient Egypt. It’s implied that Shadowstalker is the modern card version it, so a retrain of being Duos as a light monster could work
A virus card that requires LIGHT is interesting, although I feel like it wouldn’t be a virus card (since they all require DARK monsters, excluding Tribe Infecting Virus of course).
They could always be bit whimsical by making the light version of the virus card into a vaccine. Here’s a quick idea for it I slapped together.
Crush Card Vaccine.
Shuffle 1 light monster you control with 3000 or more ATK back into your deck to active this effect: Shuffle all of the opponent’s monsters that are level 5 or higher on their field, and in their hand back into the deck, then they draw 2 cards. Until your 3rd end phase from when this card was activated, the opponent takes half battle damage, and if they summon a monster that is level 5 or higher, it’s effects are negated until the end phase.

Still disappointing though. Would’ve been one thing if we also got Beetroopers and they supported each other, but the only LIGHT restriction kills that chance.
All Ojamas are LIGHT Beast monsters. There has never been an EARTH Ojama.

Yes, it does. “Cannot be Special Summoned from the GY” is a summoning condition, so as long as it was properly summoned first, it can be brought back. This is also how Immortal Phoenix is able to special summon Sphere Mode, even though the latter says it cannot be special summoned.

I always considered the Xyz robots to be my pet archetype so im Glad they got support, but im not gonna lie, i was actually expecting cyber angel support.
Cyber Angels were already featured in the all-girls Duelist Pack. There are at least half a dozen other options that have not already been featured in DP.

I think x and union activation will be used in union decks and maybe y so you can use union controller other than that, I don’t see other playable. However, I don’t play a-z deck so I could be and am willing to be wrong
This sucks, so you make retrains that force you to play the original cards as well to have any use of the spells second effect to summon Obelisk, so like why not just not bother with the retrains and only retrain the fusion to keep the number of bricks lower
