Konami can’t keep floodgates away from any format, right?
I wouldn’t say that this Monster is a Floodgate in the true sense of the concept since the Opponent can still play against you and make their plays.
This Monster is more of a Stall, but an easy one to take out considering the amount of Boss Monsters that can destroy other Monsters.
The OG Monster didn’t have much use when it came out and I don’t doubt that it will be the same fate for this Monster (which is a Retrain of the OG)
Ok, I wasn’t expecting a Retrain for Love Angel in this package.
This time, the love girl came with a much more general Continuous Effect and one that affects Fusion Monsters.
Unfortunately, I don’t think it will have much use like the OG Monster (it doesn’t help that now many Monsters can destroy Backrow or Monsters with ease)
This seems like a bait card to me. DGO cannot negate Pure Love Angel’s continuous effect because it has 0 ATK, and DGO is Level 9 with 3000 ATK so it can’t destroy PLO by battle nor can you take battle damage against DGO. “It’s good against Level 9 or lower high ATK beatsticks, including most of the high ATK monsters in this pack, almost all of whom do not have monster destruction effects.” You might say.
Too bad that practically any monster below 2500 ATK *can* destroy this by battle and all other forms of removal still exist. Monster effects, Dark Hole, Torrential Tribute, Icarus Attack, etc., which are commonly used in high tier play. Even if the number of removal cards is small right now, as we see with Volcalize Phoenix, Apsaras, Abyss Poseidra, Spike Centipede, Blasthamut (+ Darkness), Celeb Rose (+ Fabulous) Magician, Monarchs, Tactical, Demolisher, Dream Ticket, Dead End, and Fish Depth Charge amongst others, it is steadily growing in size and spreading out across several themes. So anything Konami so much as breathes life into can easily deal with this nuisance, either through some of their monsters having lower than 2500 ATK and/or their theme specific destruction effects.
While this card is marginally better than the original Love Angel (and even then that is a stretch as Level 7 is one of the most common in the entire game), it has come out far too late to matter. Maybe if this card were release a year or two ago, it might have been decent but not anymore. So glad we lost Yudias/Yuamu backrow support and Mitsuko support because of this. Good job Konami.
(Konami message, probably)
Konami: Yuamu’s Backrow is very OP by Rush Duels standards. Trap Card that prevents your Opponent from being unable to Tribute Monsters for the rest of the Turn? Trap Card that allows all cards from the Opponent’s Field to be returned to the Deck? Field Spell that allows any Dragon to attack directly? SO OP! Yudias’s Backrow is mediocre enough to not be printed or it breaks the game rules established in Rush Duels so far like that Field Spell that facilitates Fusion Summon.
Also Konami: Mitsuko is already evil and she doesn’t fit the theme: Morally good/kind duelist turned evil by a Darkness Card.
