The Q&A portion of AC03 rulings.
“If the effects of a Monster Card treated as an Equip Spell Card due to the effect of Armored Xyz are negated, what happens to those effects?”
Q: Number 39: Utopia is equipped to Black Ray Lancer due to the effect of Armored Xyz. If the effects of Number 39: Utopia are negated while it is treated as an Equip Card, what happens to the 3 “●” effects it gained from Armored Xyz?
A: If the effects of that Number 39: Utopia are negated while it is treated as an Equip Card, it will still have the 3 “●” effects, but each effect will not be applied. Since the effects it gained from Armored Xyz are not lost as a result of being negated, they will be reapplied if the effects of Number 39: Utopia are no longer negated.
“Can Starving Venom Fusion Dragon be Special Summoned by the effect of Harmonic Synchro Fusion?”
Q: If I activate Harmonic Synchro Fusion by sending 2 DARK monsters to the GY as cost, can I Special Summon Starving Venom Fusion Dragon as the Fusion Monster?
A: No, you cannot. When resolving the effect of Harmonic Synchro Fusion, you determine which Synchro Monster and which Fusion Monster can be Special Summoned based on the traits (card name, Attribute, Type, Level, ATK, DEF, card text) of the monsters sent to the GY as cost while they are in the GY. The Fusion Material monsters required for Starving Venom Fusion Dragon are 2 DARK monsters on the field, so monsters in the GY cannot meet that requirement.
“Can I use King of the Swamp as the cost to activate and apply Harmonic Synchro Fusion?”
Q: Assuming the effect of King of the Swamp is applied, can I use King of the Swamp as the cost to activate and apply Harmonic Synchro Fusion?
A: Yes, you can.
“When activating and applying the effects of Transaction Rollback, which parts of the targeted card’s text will be applied?”
Q: Regarding each effect of Transaction Rollback:
(A) Armory Call has the condition in its text that states “You can only activate 1 per turn”. During a turn I have already activated Armory Call, can I activate the effect of Transaction Rollback targeting an Armory Call in the GY?
(B) When targeting Heavy Storm Duster, is it necessarily to take into account the condition “You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this card” written in its text?
(C) When targeting Giant Starfall, what happens regarding the text “Neither player can activate the effects of monsters without a Level in response to this card’s activation”?
(D) Can it be activated targeting Evenly Matched, which has the activation condition “At the end of the Battle Phase, if your opponent controls more cards than you do”, at a time other than the end of the Battle Phase?
(E) When targeting Eldlixir of Scarlet Sanguine, does the part of the effect “For the rest of this turn after this card resolves, you cannot Special Summon monsters, except Zombie monsters” apply?
A: For the first effect of Transaction Rollback, you can ignore the “You can only activate 1 per turn” and “You can only use the effect once per turn” conditions written on the original Trap Card, and you can ignore any cost required to activate that Trap Card. However, a Trap Card’s or effect’s other activation requirements need to be met when targeting that Trap Card. (Similarly, you also need to meet the activation requirements of the original Trap Card when activating Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, and Labrynth Barrage.)
Similarly, for the second effect of Transaction Rollback, “You can only activate 1 per turn” and “You can only use the effect once per turn” conditions, as well as activation costs, can be ignored. Furthermore, since the second effect of Transaction Rollback is not the activation of a Trap Card, you can ignore the activation conditions of the original Trap Card that apply “the turn you activate this card”. However, a Trap Card’s or effect’s other activation requirements need to be met when targeting that Trap Card. (Similarly, you also need to meet the activation requirements of the original Trap Card when activating the effect of Junk Collector.)
As a general rule, when resolving each effect of Transaction Rollback, the effect resolution part of the targeted Trap Card’s text will be applied. However, if there is an action that requires the card to be activated, such as “after this card resolves”, the action will be performed if the card Transaction Rollback was activated (in other words, the first effect), but will not be performed if the card Transaction Rollback was not activated (in other words, the second effect).
(A) You can activate it. As mentioned above, “You can only activate 1 per turn” text can be ignored. This is the same whether you are using the first or second effect of Transaction Rollback.
(B) This text is a condition for activating the card Heavy Storm Duster, so it must be fulfilled if it is targeted by the first effect of Transaction Rollback. (Heavy Storm Duster cannot be targeted during the turn you conducted a Battle Phase, and you cannot conduct a Battle Phase during a turn Heavy Storm Duster was targeted.) This condition can be ignored when targeting it with the second effect of Transaction Rollback.
(C) That text is neither a condition for activating the card Giant Starfall nor part of the effect’s resolution. Therefore, it is not taken into account when it is targeted by either the first or second effect of Transaction Rollback. (Players can still chain the effects of monsters without Levels to the card or effect activation of Transaction Rollback.)
(D) It cannot be activated. “At the end of the Battle Phase, if your opponent controls more cards than you do” is the condition for activating the effect of Evenly Matched, so it must be met when it is targeted by either the first or second effect of Transaction Rollback.
(E) This text is part of the effect’s resolution, but only applies for the rest of the turn after the card was activated. Therefore, if the card Transaction Rollback was activated (meaning it was targeted by the first effect), this part of the effect will be applied. But if the card Transaction Rollback was not activated (meaning it was targeted by the second effect), it will not be applied.
The following entries are older rulings for these “Trap copiers” that were updated to include Transaction Rollback, and I feel it is convenient to list them all again in one place.
“Can I apply the effect of Extinction on Schedule with an effect that “becomes that Trap’s effect when that card is activated”?”
Q: Can I activate Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, or Transaction Rollback by targeting Extinction on Schedule, or activate Labrynth Barrage by chaining it to Extinction on Schedule? Also, can I activate the second effect of Transaction Rollback by targeting Extinction on Schedule, or activate the effect of Junk Collector by banishing Extinction on Schedule?
A: If it is either player’s Main Phase, you can activate Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, or Transaction Rollback by targeting Extinction on Schedule, and you can activate Labrynth Barrage by chaining it to Extinction on Schedule. In that case, at the end of the third Battle Phase after activation, the effect “make both players send all cards they control to the Graveyard” is applied normally.
However, you cannot activate the second effect of Transaction Rollback by targeting Extinction on Schedule, nor activate the effect of Junk Collector by banishing Extinction on Schedule.
“Can I apply the effect of Fuse Line with an effect that “becomes that Trap’s effect when that card is activated”?”
Q: Can I activate Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, or Transaction Rollback by targeting Fuse Line, or activate Labrynth Barrage by chaining it to Fuse Line? Also, can I activate the second effect of Transaction Rollback by targeting Fuse Line, or activate the effect of Junk Collector by banishing Fuse Line?
A: If there is another card in the same column, you can activate Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, or Transaction Rollback by targeting Fuse Line, and you can activate Labrynth Barrage by chaining it to Fuse Line. (At this time, you must also select the target to be destroyed.)
However, Fuse Line is a Normal Trap Card that can only be activated while it is Set in the Spell & Trap Zone, so you cannot activate the second effect of Transaction Rollback by targeting Fuse Line, nor activate the effect of Junk Collector by banishing Fuse Line.
“When applying the effect of Eradicator Epidemic Virus with an effect that “becomes that Trap’s effect when that card is activated”, which cards can be destroyed?”
Q: I activated Labrynth Barrage by chaining it to Eradicator Epidemic Virus, which was activated by declaring “Spell”. In this case, does the effect of Labrynth Barrage have to destroy Spell Cards? Or is it possible to destroy Trap Cards?
A: You can destroy either Spell or Trap Cards. In the above scenario, when activating Labrynth Barrage, you must declare a card type (Spell or Trap) again. It does not have to be the same card type you declared when activating Eradicator Epidemic Virus in the previous Chain Link. When resolving that Labrynth Barrage, apply the effects of Eradicator Epidemic Virus to the card type you declared when activating Labrynth Barrage.
Similarly, when you activate Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, or Transaction Rollback (as well as its second effect) by targeting Eradicator Epidemic Virus, or when activating the effect of Junk Collector by banishing Eradicator Epidemic Virus, you must declare a card type (Spell or Trap) at activation.
“Can I apply the effect of Pharaoh’s Treasure with an effect that “becomes that Trap’s effect when that card is activated”?”
Q: Can I activate Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, or Transaction Rollback by targeting Pharaoh’s Treasure? Also, can I activate Labrynth Barrage by chaining it to Pharaoh’s Treasure?
A: None of them can be activated in these scenarios. Furthermore, the second effect of Transaction Rollback cannot be activated targeting Pharaoh’s Treasure, and the effect of Junk Collector cannot be activated by banishing Pharaoh’s Treasure.
“Can I apply the effect of Xyz Reborn with an effect that “becomes that Trap’s effect when that card is activated”?”
Q: Can I activate Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, or Transaction Rollback by targeting Xyz Reborn, or activate Labrynth Barrage by chaining it to Xyz Reborn? Also, can I activate the second effect of Transaction Rollback by targeting Xyz Reborn, or activate the effect of Junk Collector by banishing Xyz Reborn?
A: These cards be activated. In that case, when resolving the activated Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, Transaction Rollback, or Labrynth Barrage, it will be attached to the Special Summoned Xyz Monster as an Xyz Material.
However, you cannot activate the second effect of Transaction Rollback by targeting Xyz Reborn, nor activate the effect of Junk Collector by banishing Xyz Reborn.
“Can I apply the effect of a Normal Trap Card whose effect varies based on its activation cost with an effect that “becomes that Trap’s effect when that card is activated”?”
Q: Can I activate Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, or Transaction Rollback by targeting Burst Breath? Also, can I activate Labrynth Barrage by chaining it to Burst Breath?
A: None of them can be activated in these scenarios. These are effects that only apply the resolution of the Trap Card’s effect at the time the card is activated. The activation conditions written in the Trap Card’s text must still be met, but any costs required to activate that Trap Card are not paid.
Burst Breath is a Normal Trap Card whose effect resolution is based on the ATK of the monster Tributed for its activation cost. Therefore, Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, Transaction Rollback, and Labrynth Barrage are unable to apply the effect of Burst Breath.
Furthermore, the second effect of Transaction Rollback cannot be activated targeting Burst Breath, and the effect of Junk Collector cannot be activated by banishing Burst Breath.
“Can I apply the effect of a Normal Trap Card that Special Summons itself as a monster with an effect that “becomes that Trap’s effect when that card is activated”?”
Q: Can I activate Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, or Transaction Rollback by targeting a Normal Trap Card that Special Summons itself to the Monster Zone, such as Traptrix Holeutea? Also, can I activate Labrynth Barrage by chaining it to a Normal Trap Card such as Traptrix Holeutea?
A: None of them can be activated in these scenarios. Furthermore, the second effect of Transaction Rollback cannot be activated targeting Traptrix Holeutea, and the effect of Junk Collector cannot be activated by banishing Traptrix Holeutea.
“Can I apply the effect of a Normal Trap Card that becomes an Equip Card with an effect that “becomes that Trap’s effect when that card is activated”?”
Q: Can I activate Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, or Transaction Rollback by targeting a card that becomes an Equip Card when it resolves such as Altergeist Manifestation, or activate Labrynth Barrage by chaining it to a Normal Trap Card such as Altergeist Manifestation, or activate the effect of Junk Collector by banishing a Normal Trap Card such as Altergeist Manifestation?
Also, can I activate Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, or Transaction Rollback by targeting Kunai with Chain, or activate Labrynth Barrage by chaining it to Kunai with Chain, or activate the effect of Junk Collector by banishing Kunai with Chain?
A: Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, and Transaction Rollback cannot be activated targeting Altergeist Manifestation, and Labrynth Barrage cannot be chained to Altergeist Manifestation. Furthermore, the second effect of Transaction Rollback cannot be activated targeting Altergeist Manifestation, and the effect of Junk Collector cannot be activated by banishing Altergeist Manifestation.
Also, since Kunai with Chain can be activated to only apply the effect “When an opponent’s monster declares an attack: Target the attacking monster; change that target to Defense Position”, you can target it with Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, and Transaction Rollback (as well as its second effect), you can chain Labrynth Barrage to it, and you can activate the effect of Junk Collector by banishing it. If you do, only the effect “change that target to Defense Position” is applied. (The effect “equip this card to that target” cannot be applied.)
“Can I apply the effect of a card that is Set face-down after it resolves instead of being sent to the GY, with an effect that “becomes that Trap’s effect when that card is activated”?”
Q: Can I activate Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, or Transaction Rollback by targeting Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, or activate Labrynth Barrage by chaining it to Scrap-Iron Scarecrow? Also, can I activate the second effect of Transaction Rollback by targeting Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, or activate the effect of Junk Collector by banishing Scrap-Iron Scarecrow?
A: These cards be activated. In that case, Trap of Darkness, Fake Feather, Transaction Rollback, and Labrynth Barrage will be Set in the Spell & Trap Zone afterward.
However, you cannot activate the second effect of Transaction Rollback by targeting Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, nor activate the effect of Junk Collector by banishing Scrap-Iron Scarecrow.
