“Please explain how to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Sophia.”
Q: The card text for Nekroz of Sophia states “Must be Ritual Summoned from your hand by using 3 monsters you control with different Types”. In which ways can it be Ritual Summoned?
A: As stated in its text, Nekroz of Sophia is a monster that must be Special Summoned by Ritual Summoned from your hand using 3 monsters you control with different Types.
For example, if you activate Nekroz Mirror, you can Ritual Summon Nekroz of Sophia by Tributing a Great Sorcerer of the Nekroz (Level 4 Spellcaster), Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands (Level 4 Fairy), and Nekroz of Clausolas (Level 3 Warrior) you control.
Since this monster can only be Ritual Summoned from your hand by using 3 monsters you control with different Types, you cannot Ritual Summon it in any of the following ways.
● Using a monster your opponent controls to which the effect of Soul Exchange was applied for the Ritual Summon.
● Applying the effect of Shurit, Strategist of the Nekroz and using it as the entire requirement.
● Using the effect of Djinn Releaser of Rituals or Nekroz Mirror to banish monsters from your GY for the Ritual Summon.
● Using Nekroz Mirror to Tribute monsters from your hand.
● Ritual Summoning Nekroz of Sophia from your GY with the effect of Nekroz Cycle.
● Using the effect of Advanced Ritual Art to send Normal Monsters from your Deck to the GY for the Ritual Summon.
● Using the effect of Nekroz Kaleidoscope to send a monster from your Extra Deck to the GY for the Ritual Summon.
● Applying the effect of Drytron Mu Beta Fafnir and detaching its materials for the Ritual Summon.
“Can I target an Xyz Material detached as cost from Daigusto Emeral as a card to return to the Deck?”
Q: Can I target a monster detached as an Xyz Material for the activation cost and sent to the GY with the first effect of Daigusto Emeral? Also, if I only have 2 monsters in my GY, can I activate the first effect of Daigusto Emeral by detaching a Monster Card from among its Xyz Materials?
A: When activating the effect of Daigusto Emeral, first detach an Xyz Material as its cost, then select which effect to activate and the cards it targets. When selecting which effect to activate, the monster detached as cost is already in your GY, so it can be targeted by the first effect.
If you only have 2 monsters in your GY and both of them are Effect Monsters, the effect cannot be activated because you do not have the appropriate monsters in your GY to target for either effect.
If at least 1 of the 2 monsters in your GY is a non-Effect Monster, the second effect is able to be activated, and an Xyz Material can be detached as cost. If the detached material is a Monster Card sent to the GY, you will now have 3 monsters in your GY, so you can select and activate the first effect.
“If there are no Zombie monsters with 0 DEF in my GY, can I send a Zombie monster with 0 DEF from my hand to the GY to activate the effect of Shiranui Style Synthesis?”
Q: I have 1 banished Zombie monster with 0 DEF, but no Zombie monsters with 0 DEF in my GY. In this situation, if I send a Zombie monster with 0 DEF from my hand to the GY as the cost to activate the effect of Shiranui Style Synthesis, can I select the first “●” effect and target that monster?
A: Yes, you can.
When activating the effect of Shiranui Style Synthesis, first send a card from your hand to the GY as its cost, then select which effect to activate and the cards it targets.
In this scenario, since you have a banished Zombie monster with 0 DEF, the second “●” effect is able to be activated, so you can send 1 card from your hand to the GY as cost. If you sent a Zombie monster with 0 DEF to the GY, you will now have a monster in your GY to target with the first “●” effect, so you can also select and activate that effect.
*Note: The above 2 rulings are reversals for multiple-choice effects. Previously you could only activate Daigusto Emeral’s first effect if you already had 3 monsters in the GY, though you were still able to target a monster that was detached. Now, as long as 1 of the 2 effects can be activated, you can activate the effect by detaching and then choose a legal effect afterward. The same concept applies to Shiranui Style Synthesis. This does NOT change the overall rule that you cannot activate an effect (like Zombie Master) without a legal target, even if you would send a targetable monster to the GY as cost.
“What happens if a Token is destroyed by the effect of Gandora-X the Dragon of Demolition?”
Q: If Nibiru, the Primal Being and a Primal Being Token with 4000 ATK are destroyed by the effect of Gandora-X the Dragon of Demolition, what happens?
Also, if a monster with an original ATK of 1000 and an Adventurer Token are destroyed by the effect of Gandora-X the Dragon of Demolition, what happens?
A: The original ATK of a Primal Being Token is “?”. Therefore, if you destroy Nibiru, the Primal Being and a Primal Being Token with 4000 ATK, the monster with the highest original ATK among the destroyed monsters is Nibiru, the Primal Being. Therefore, the effect of Gandora-X the Dragon of Demolition inflicts 3000 damage to your opponent, and its ATK becomes 3000.
Also, the original ATK of an Adventurer Token is 2000. Therefore, if you destroy a monster with an original ATK of 1000 and an Adventurer Token, the monster with the highest original ATK among the destroyed monsters is the Adventurer Token. Therefore, the effect of Gandora-X the Dragon of Demolition inflicts 2000 damage to your opponent, and its ATK becomes 2000.
“What happens if 2 monsters with the same ATK are destroyed by the effect of Gandora-X the Dragon of Demolition?”
Q: If the effect of Gandora-X the Dragon of Demolition is activated while there are 2 copies of Blue-Eyes White Dragon in my opponent’s Monster Zone, how much damage does the effect inflict to my opponent, and what does the ATK of Gandora-X the Dragon of Demolition become?
A: The 2 copies of Blue-Eyes White Dragon are destroyed by the effect of Gandora-X the Dragon of Demolition, and your opponent takes 3000 damage. Therefore, the ATK of Gandora-X the Dragon of Demolition becomes 3000.
“What does the text of Triamid Loading “if a Field Spell is placed face-up in the Field Zone” refer to?”
Q: Which situations does the text of Triamid Loading “if a Field Spell is placed face-up in the Field Zone” refer to?
A: The following situations fit the criteria for placing a Field Spell face-up in the Field Zone. This applies even if there is already a card in the Field Zone and you send it to the GY to activate or place another Field Spell.
● When a Field Spell Card is activated from your hand.
● When a Field Spell Card is activated using a card effect such as Metaverse.
● When a Field Spell Card is placed face-up in the Field Zone by an effect such as Dream Mirror Hypnagogia.
● When Camelot, Realm of Noble Knights and Noble Arms, which was temporarily banished by its own effect, returns to the Field Zone during the next Standby Phase.
Furthermore, even if the activation of a Field Spell Card activated from your hand is negated, a Field Spell was still placed face-up in the Field Zone.
Also, the following situations do not fit the criteria for placing a Field Spell face-up in the Field Zone.
● When a card is Set in the Field Zone.
● When a Set Field Spell Card in the Field Zone is activated.
“If I Link Summon Underworld Goddess of the Closed World, can I use 2 of my opponent’s monsters as materials by including a monster to which the effect of Moon of the Closed Sky was applied to?”
Q: My opponent controls 2 monsters, and I control Moon of the Closed Sky along with 1 other monster. I activate the effect of Moon of the Closed Sky. During this turn, if I Link Summon Underworld Goddess of the Closed World using an opponent’s monster by the method written in its text, can I also use the monster to which the effect of Moon of the Closed Sky was applied to?
A: Yes, you can.
“Can Monster Cards in the Spell & Trap Zone be included for the conditions of activating or applying effects?”
Q: My Rescue-ACE Hydrant, “Centur-Ion” Monster Card, and a Tuner monster are currently in my Spell & Trap Zone due to the effects of Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon or Sinful Spoils of Subversion Snake-Eye. In this case, can I activate/apply the effects of the following cards?
(A) The second effect of Rescue-ACE Preventer.
(B) The first effect of Stand Up Centur-Ion!.
(C) Duelist Genesis.
(D) The effect of ALERT! adding a monster from my Deck to my hand.
A:
(A) If there are no other “Rescue-ACE” monsters in your Monster Zone, the effect cannot be activated. Monster Cards in the Spell & Trap Zone are not treated as monsters, so they are not counted for the conditions of activating/applying effects such as “If there is a “X” monster on the field”.
(B) The effect applies. A “Monster Card” refers to a card that is originally a monster. Therefore, Monster Cards in the Spell & Trap Zone can also be counted for the conditions of activating/applying effects such as “If there is a “X” Monster Card on the field”.
(C) It cannot be activated if there are no other Tuner monsters in your Monster Zone or GY. Cards that are not treated as monsters are also not treated as Tuners, so Monster Cards in the Spell & Trap Zone cannot be counted for those conditions.
(D) You can add a “Rescue-ACE” monster from your Deck to your hand. If a card name is specified, such as “if you control “Rescue-ACE Hydrant””, Monster Cards in the Spell & Trap Zone are also counted for the conditions of activating/applying an effect.
“When Fusion Summoning Dragon Magia Master with the effect of Ultimate Fusion, can I use 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragons and 1 “Chaos” Ritual Monster as Fusion Materials?”
Q: When Fusion Summoning Dragon Magia Master with the effect of Ultimate Fusion, can I use 3 copies of Blue-Eyes White Dragon and 1 “Chaos” Ritual Monster as Fusion Materials?
A: No, you cannot. When performing a Fusion Summon with the effect of Ultimate Fusion, you must use either Blue-Eyes White Dragon or Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon as the material whose name is written on that Fusion Monster. The only card name mentioned as a material for Dragon Magia Master is Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, so you must always include a monster with the card name “Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon” as a material.
