The Magical World of Magic and Wizards.

It seems that this year is the year of the Spellcasters from Fairy Tail and Charmer, to the Magistus lore. With the new Witchcrafter and Invoked support cards helping their respective theme and giving them a consistency boost, they have affected prices for plenty of cards that cannot be covered in a single Market Watch. So let’s dive into the world of Magic and Spellcasters to see what was affected. Even though Spellbooks aren’t talked about, they are here in spirit as Alister the Invoker stole the Grand Spellbook Tower to become Invoked Augoeides to fight in the Endymion war, so all that knowledge is missing for now and will be returned later.

The Boy Who Dug Into Forbidden Incantations

With a new age of Spellcasters being released, plenty of Invoked cards have been rising up in price, this has caused Invoked Magistus Omega to spike heavily for its Starlight Rare version. To Fusion Summon this card, you need Aleister the Invoker and a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster, which is extremely likely in an Invoked Magistus Spellcaster Pile as they run every Summoning Mechanic known that is not named Pendulum at the current moment. On its Special Summon, this card can target a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster in your GY and a monster on the field in order to banish them both. In addition, if this Fusion Summon card is destroyed by battle or card effect, you can Special Summon any Level 4 Spellcaster monster from your Deck, then equip this card to that monster as an Equip Spell that gives it an additional 1000 ATK. This makes it an excellent bridge for Fairy Tail and Charmer monsters, and is extremely powerful for bringing out Zoroa, the Magistus Flame or Crowley the Gifted Magistus from your Deck

Invocation is the main card that you search off of both Aleister the Invoker and Aleister the Invoker of Madness, which allows you to perform your Fusion Summons for any Fusion Monster, such as the El Shaddolls by using cards from your hand, but if you Fusion Summon an Invoked Fusion Monster, you can banish monsters from your field or either GY as well as many times as you want per turn. While this card is in the GY, you can target a banished Aleister the Invoker to shuffle Invocation into your Deck, then add that Aleister the Invoker to your hand for a follow-up play during the next turn, or to have your Fusion Monster gain 1000 ATK.

On the Magistus side of things, Crowley, the Gifted Magistus has been creeping up in price as the Spellcaster Pile grows in power. If Crowley is used as a Fusion Material, while on the field, you can treat it as Aleister the Invoker, and if this card is added to your hand, except by drawing it, you can Special Summon it. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned, outside of the Damage Step, you can Fusion Summon 1 Magistus or Invoked Fusion monster from your Extra Deck using monsters from your hand or field. This plays perfectly into the new wave of Invoked cards as they all just need an “Aleister” monster, in which you have the original Invoker, The Invoker of Madness, Reminiscent, and Crowley while on the field.

Everyone’s favorite Spoon, Spenta, the Magistus Sealer has gone up in price due to the Spellcaster hype as each theme can use the Magistus engine efficiently to set up interruptions on the opponent’s turn, but can also provide multiple combo routes before you are locked into the theme itself like Witchcrafter, or locked into Fusion Monsters with Invoked. By discarding this card, you can add any other Magistus monster from your Deck to your hand or halve the ATK of 1 monster your opponent controls until the end of that turn. While this card is in your GY, you can banish it to target 1 face-up monster you control and equip 1 Magistus monster from your Extra Deck or GY to it as an Equip Spell, lining you up for a play with Magistus Chorozo or Snake-Eyes Doomed Dragon.

Being the center of attention for now, Invoked will run the meta again, especially with Super Polymerization legal for additional types of interruptions against what the opponent’s Deck has planned to try and beat yours. The addition of Invoked Okeanos (YGOrganization) being able to banish any monster sent to your opponent’s GY while in the Extra Monster Zone is insane, especially being next to Invoked Transcendence Aeon (YGOrganization) being able to banish up to 3 cards face-up from your opponent’s Extra Deck if you used 3 or more materials.

The Ultimate Wizard Who Went Mad With Power

It must be tiring and maddening if you try to become the Ultimate Spellcaster, but none can match the wisdom and power of the legendary Dark Magician.

It’s heavily hinted, since Invoked, Magistus, and Witchcrafter saw brand-new support and with the image they gave for the commercial for the next Chronicle Episode, that each character will see an episode and the first one happens to focus on Aleister the Invoker. But it is an easy guess that Endymion will also see a new wave of support in the future. Everyone laughs and jokes about Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic, since it has the longest card text in this game, but it is an extremely powerful boss monster for his own theme. With only being printed in Structure Deck: Order of the Spellcaster, it’s become slightly harder to find on the shelves after 7 years of being out of print, but to break down this monster easily, here’s some bullet points of what it does.

    For its Pendulum Effect:

    • By removing 6 Spell Counters from your field, this card Special Summons itself from the Pendulum Zone and then you destroy a number of cards on the field equal to the number of cards you control that have Spell Counters on it. Then, if you do, you place Spell Counters on this card equal to the number of cards destroyed.

    For its Monster Effect:

    • If a Spell/Trap card or effect is activated, you can quickly return 1 card you control with a Spell Counter to your hand, and you negate the activation and destroy that card.
    • While this card has a Spell Counter, it cannot be targeted or destroyed by your opponent’s card effects.
    • When this card is destroyed by battle while it has a Spell Counter, you can add any Normal Spell from your Deck to your hand.

Even though this monster has tons of effects to take in, it is an extremely strong boss monster for an ever-expanding game with plenty of Spellcasters to pair with it

With great power comes great responsibilities, especially for Witchcrafter Genni… I mean Servant of Endymion. Being the precursor to Witchcrafter Genni before becoming a Witchcrafter monster, Servant of Endymion is one of the best cards to pick up early if you have an interest in building Endymion in the future. While in the Pendulum Zone, this card gains 1 Spell Counter each time a Spell Card is resolved. You can remove 3 Spell Counters from this card to Special Summon both it from your Pendulum Zone and a monster from your Deck with 1000 or more ATK that can place a Spell Counter on, and each monster gains 1 Spell Counter if you do. This effect is amazing for Special Summoning Mythical Beast Jackal King so you can set up a way to negate the activation of your opponent’s monster effects and destroy those monsters by removing 2 Spell Counters. While in the Monster Zone, Servant of Endymion can attack directly when it has a Spell Counter, and once per turn, you can quickly discard 1 card to place 1 Spell Counter on each card you control that you can place a Spell Counter on. Finally, if this monster is destroyed in the Monster Zone, you can place this card in your Pendulum Zone with the same number of Spell Counters it had when it was a monster.

Every master of magic needs to have their most powerful Spell, and this one is Spell Power Mastery. This card adds any Endymion card from your Deck to your hand, then you count the number of Spell Power Mastery and Grasp you control and/or in your GY and place that many Spell Counters among cards you control that can have Spell Counters on them. This is great for searching for your Servant of Endymion, Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic himself, or even the yet-to-be-released Verre, the Maid of Endymion (YGOrganization) as a powerful starter for the Spellcaster Pile.

Finally, let’s dive into Witchcrafter for a really quick moment with Witchcrafter Madame Verre. Being the main and head Witchcrafter, the The Infinity Chasers Secret Rare copies of this card are extremely low on the market and Near Mint copies are demanding around $30 right now for North America, if you look past the Moderate and Heavy Played copies. During damage calculation, if a Spellcaster monster battles an opponent’s monster, you can quickly reveal any number of Spells with different names in your hand to make your monster gain 1000 ATK/DEF for each card revealed until the end of the turn. This can cause games to end quickly if you have more than eight Spells in your hand with different names. Once per turn, you can quickly discard a Spell to negate the effects of all face-up monsters your opponent currently controls until the end of the turn, which can turn the tides if your opponent doesn’t have a counter prepared.

The last card we are going to cover is one of the best Witchcrafter Spells, and that is Witchcrafter Creation. The current going rate for its The Infinity Chasers Secret Rare copies are running for over $20 for North America. This card can add any Witchcrafter monster from your Deck to your hand, and during your End Phase, if you control a Witchcraft monster, you can add this card to your hand from your GY. The only downside about this is you can only use 1 of the effects or the other, like all the other Spells/Traps, so you have to pick and choose which effects you want to use and which ones you want to add back to your hand during your End Phase.

With all this Spellcaster support going around for the big three, one wonders if they will make a brand-new theme around Zoroa, having an “I lived” moment would be massive for the Magistus Lore. This weekend is the TEAM YCS in Las Vegas, Nevada, and to all who are attending, I wish your teams the best of luck. Hopefully we see a win for Dracotail Magistus Branded/Dracotail Branded, Fiendsmith Yummy or Vanquish Soul K9. Maybe we could also see a Maliss win again for this format to solidify the format even more.
