[MW] Hidden and Secret Techs Through The Rose Garden

Bolt SpiderBy Bolt SpiderJune 18, 20256 Comments

The buyouts are blossoming with new reveals from Doom of Dimensions.

Interesting techs and buyouts have been happening all over the market, with new innovations to past decks from the likes of Orcust to some players trying out a small Yang Zing engine in decks like Blue-Eyes. So, let’s take a look at what all has happened this past week.

In the light of Blue-Eyes, a couple of players have been siding a copy of both Chaofeng, Phantom of the Yang Zing, and Chiwen, Light of the Yang Zing, as a way to stop the opponent if they are on Blue-Eyes, Effect Veiler, Nibiru, the Primal Being, and even against the Fiendsmith engine, as well as parts of Ryzeal. It’s an interesting tech to run if you haven’t used your Normal Summon and you know what deck you are going against. The upside of having Chiwen in the GY is that if Chaofeng were to be destroyed by battle or card effect and ends up in the GY, you can Special Summon Chiwen by its own effect, but you have to banish it when it leaves the field. Doing so gives you a free Level 1 LIGHT Tuner so you can Synchro Summon using it on your following turn to make Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon or Light Storm Dragon.

With Chaofeng, it has received many reprints over the course of its release; Chiwen, on the other hand, has only 2 total prints from Duelist Alliance and the 2015 Mega Tin Mega Pack. Only time will tell if this card will receive a reprint.

With the brand-new Magnifistorm (YGOrganization Translation) theme being revealed in Doom of Dimension, many players have gone after the WIND Xyz Monster, Totem Bird. It takes 2 Level 3 WIND monsters to summon it, and it gives the deck a Spell/Trap Card negator in order to counteract Infinite Impermanence and Dominus Impulse. This is easy to make, as the Deck has multiple Level 3 WIND monsters in their arsenal. The only downside this card has is when it has no Xyz Materials, it will lose 300 ATK, making it 1600 ATK instead of 1900.

Along with Totem Bird, Mystical Space Typhoon has shown up once again with so many buyouts, I have personally lost count of how many copies have been sold over the past week. This is the heart and soul of the new Magnifistorm theme, as its many cards can tutor for it. It can also be used as discard fodder for Magnifistorming Sight Trance (YGOrganization Translation) so you can draw 2 cards, and with the new Trap Card, Magnifistorming Sovereign Tyranny (YGOrganization Translation), it can finally negate something, as that was a meme so old, Konami finally did something for it. It’s fascinating it took over 20 years for MST to get a deck, as it’s a super iconic and nostalgic card for anyone who played Yu-Gi-Oh! in the game’s lifetime.

With many, many prints, this card is easy to obtain for many players, mainly just the high-rarity versions that players are buying up, like the Ultimate Rare, Quarter Century Secret Rare, and even the Ghost Gold Rare versions.

With the rise of modern-day Orcust, many have gone after both Imsety, Glory of Horus, and King’s Sarcophagus for their main engine to play, as it gains you an advantage with either The Zombie Vampire (which has an effect that sends the top 4 cards of each player’s deck to the GY) or Number 90: Galaxy-Eyes Photon Lord (which is a monster effect negator that can deal with Nibiru, the Primal Being, Bystial Magnamhut, or Bystial Druiswurm). Being a 3000 ATK body, Imsety is a useful monster on its own, as it can discard itself and an Orcust monster to search for King’s Sarcophagus and draw you 1 card as well. Along with this, if another card you control leaves the field by your opponent’s card effect while Imsety is in your Monster Zone, you can send 1 card on the field to the GY, which is a great piece of interruption if needed for Orcust.

Meanwhile, King’s Sarcophagus is useful in its own way, as it allows you to send 1 card from your hand to the GY to send a Horus monster from your deck to the GY. So if you open this and Imsety together, you can send that Imsety to the GY to send another monster like Hapi, Guidance of Horus, or Duamutef, Blessing of Horus, depending on which one you use for the deck. If you pick Hapi, it will allow you to target 2 of your cards that are banished or in your GY, and you can either add them to your hand or shuffle both into the deck, but only if another card you control left the field by your opponent’s card effect. If you pick Duamutef, it gains 1200 ATK/DEF for each Horus monster you control, and if another card you control leaves the field by your opponent’s card effect, you can draw cards equal to the number of monsters with different names in your Monster Zone, which can impact the game as that can help you win or get you ahead in advantage. But that is not all for King’s Sarcophagus. Once per turn, at the start of the Damage Step, if your Horus monster battles an opponent’s monster, you can send that opponent’s monster to the GY, which is really useful if they have a monster you are having an issue attacking over or to get around certain effects, since only a set amount of cards can be activated in the Damage Step.

Both King’s Sarcophagus and Imsety were hoped to be reprinted this year, but so far, there aren’t any signs currently, with their only prints being in Age of Overlord and the 2024 Mega Tins.

With the recent reprint of Primite Lordly Lode from Battles of Legend: Monster Mayhem, it wasn’t enough to keep its price down as players flocked to it, buying it out twice within the week. This could be because many are getting their last-minute cards for their Nationals, either having them shipped within the states or even being exported to places like South America or Europe so players could have them in time for their event. Even then, Primite is still a great engine to use in decks like Blue-Eyes or, now even better, in Bystial Fiendsmith decks thanks to Dipity, the Level 4 LIGHT Fiend Normal Monster import in Alliance Insight to help bridge the Fiendsmith and Primite engines the best.

Even though Primite Lordly Lode saw a recent reprint, some others hope that it will receive an Ultra Rare print in this year’s Mega Tin to match Primite Drillbeam and Primite Dragon Ether Beryl with their Ultra Rare copies.

Another outstanding card that has gone by without being talked about is Bystial Dis Pater. This Level 10 Synchro Monster from Cyberstorm Access has been lurking around in some Primite Blue-Eyes, Bystial Centur-Ion, and Tenpai Dragon lists over the past few months. This card holds great power against Maliss @Ignister, as if they banish a Maliss monster off of Maliss <P> Dormouse or Maliss in Underground, you can shuffle that Maliss monster back to negate that monster’s effect, so they will lose out on a Maliss name if they aren’t careful. Even then, if you happen to have a card banished, it can be a great interruption against many decks that rely on their monster effects. Along with shuffling banished cards to either destroy the monster that activated its effect or simply negating that monster’s effect, it can also target 1 banished LIGHT or DARK monster and Special Summon that card to your field, which pairs extremely well when using it with Bystials to gain additional field presence.

In the heat of speculation with the possibilities of new Rose Dragon Support or other plant hybrid decks to come out, because of the reprint of Periallis, Empress of Blossoms, all copies of Red Rose Dragon are extremely low in number. Being one of the main Level 3 Tuner Dragons for a variety of decks from back in 2022 with B.A.S.E.D. (Brave, Artifact, Souls, Enforcer, Rose Dragon) to nowadays in Dragon Rulers variants, this card, along with Basal Rose Shoot and Rox Rose Dragon, makes up a strong engine to help go into a multitude of Synchro and Link Monsters over the years. Even if it hasn’t seen much play as of recently, this is definitely going to be a card for many Synchro and Dragon Decks to come in the future, or will it just fall out of the limelight?

With only Legendary Duelists: Sisters of the Rose and Legendary Duelists: Season 2 having printings of Red Rose Dragon, all copies of this card are becoming low in quantity on the market with 4 different colored Ultra Rares and its original Rare printing. Let’s hope we see a new print for this card soon.

EARTH Machines always seem to get support no matter where you look, especially with the brand-new R.B. Deck that is coming out in Duelist’s Advance. This caused Therion “King” Regulus to surprisingly go up in value a little, more so for the Starlight Rare version from Dimension Force. This is a powerful card for any deck that can utilize it, as it allows you to target 1 Therion or Machine monster in your GY in order to Special Summon Therion from your hand and equip that targeted monster to it. In addition, when your opponent activates a card or effect, you can send 1 Therion Monster Card from your hand or face-up field to the GY to negate that effect. This is great for decks like EARTH Machine, as it grants the deck an in-engine way to negate the effect on any card.

With this card only being from Dimension Force as a Secret Rare and Starlight Rare and in the 2023 Mega Tin Mega Packs as a Secret Rare, this card does lack reprints in itself but remains cheap for ease of access in finding this card.

This week has been crazy with how much has changed in the market since it is impossible to cover every single card, but as we ramp up to the next WCQ in Bogota, Colombia, let’s hope we see something surprising come from it!
