Have you dove into the crazy oddities of the market?
It is no article without seeing cards receive buyouts, but cards like Soundproofed that were mentioned last week spiked more. This week, we will look at other cards players have been picking up and using in recent lists or hyped up due to new reveals from Blazing Dominion. Let’s dive into this week’s Market Watch and let’s see what is going on.
Tech Cards That Have Spiked On The Market
This first option had me curious, and then I realized it is a perfect card to use in Elfnote, and it’s Fortune Lady Every. Being a Level 7 Synchro Monster that requires a Tuner and 1 or more non-Tuner Spellcaster monsters, this card is extremely easy to make within the Elfnote Deck thanks to their Power Patron and any of their Elfnote monsters. While on the field, this card gains 400 ATK/DEF times its Level, and during each of your Standby Phases, you can increase the Level of this card by 1, but you get capped at Level 12, totaling this card anywhere from 2800 ATK/DEF to 4800 ATK/DEF if it stays on the field for 5 additional turns. This card is useful if it is in your GY, because during the opponent’s End Phase, you can banish 1 other Spellcaster monster to Special Summon this card from your GY. It is perfect for bringing out additional Level 7 monsters if needed for other Synchro Summons after it leaves the field by the opponent or if you send it away for a Synchro Summon.
Another card that has been popping up in multiple Decks that run the Branded engine happens to be Chaos Archfiend. This Level 8 Synchro Monster needs a LIGHT Tuner and a DARK non-Tuner for its Synchro Summon, which is Fallen of the White Dragon for the DARK non-Tuner and Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous; Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous; and even Guiding Quem, the Virtuous, for your LIGHT Tuner. The great thing about this card is that during any turn a card(s) has been banished, Chaos Archfiend gains 2000 ATK, putting it at 4500 ATK. It can also attack all monsters your opponent controls, once each, and it banishes any monster that it destroys in battle. This is an excellent way to clear away the opponent’s monsters during battle when going second, and it gets better: if it leaves the field by an opponent’s card, you can Special Summon any other Chaos Synchro Monster from your Extra Deck, so you can Special Summon a copy of Chaos Angel for additional interruption or removal if needed.
Going into the Blazing Dominion format, players have once again bought out Discord. This happens every few years when a new Synchro Theme takes the meta, and this time, there are going to be two, being both Elfnote and Kewl Tune. While face-up on the field, neither player can Synchro Summon, and it is sent to the GY at the end of the 3rd End Phase after this card’s activation. Honestly, this card is just a weaker version of Soundproofed and has more weaknesses, but it is a tech option that players can use going into the future again.
Zombie players rejoice, as new generic Zombie Support is heading your way in Blazing Dominion with both Officiating Reverie and Officiator of Doom Samuel. This has caused cards from the Call of the Haunted theme to pick up traction, like Stare of the Snake Hair. Only receiving an Ultra Rare print in Maze of Muertos, this card can discard itself to add a Call of the Haunted, or a Spell/Trap that mentions it, from your Deck to your hand. If this card is Special Summoned, you can target 1 Attack Position monster your opponent controls to make it so that monster cannot attack, its effects become negated, and it cannot be used for a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Summon. An all-around solid card for assisting plays when going second, but with Call of the Haunted, it becomes a weaker version of Forbidden Crown.
It’ll be an interesting time coming soon to see what players do in the upcoming format, with the World Premiere release this weekend. I wonder how much of an impact other themes in Blazing Dominion will have on the game.
Tournament Pack Surprises
It’s well known that cards from the early Tournament Packs, Duelist League Promos, and World Championship Pack cards are extremely hard to come by nowadays. But some of the cards have had some interesting movements over the past month, especially Happy Lover. When it was released in Champion Pack 2, it was just another Normal Monster being imported, but after a few years, Herald of Perfection was released. With both Happy Lover and Advanced Ritual Art, you have enough Level 2 monsters to send for Advanced Ritual Art to successfully Ritual Summon Herald of Perfection from your hand. Other players also used a copy of Gyakutenno Megami (a Level 6 Fairy monster) and Mokey Mokey (a Level 1 Fairy monster) with it just in case you drew copies of Happy Lover to fulfill the requirement of Advanced Ritual Art.
This next card has only been released in the World Championship Pack from 2010 and 2011, and it’s an Obese Marmot of Narfariousness. This monster doesn’t have much going for it, as it’s the recolored counterpart to Archfiend Marmot of Nefariousness, a different Normal Monster that was printed in Tournament Pack 6, which doesn’t have a reprint to this day. Being extremely rare to come by nowadays, this card holds tons of value for collectors. It being a Level 3 EARTH Beast could be useful in past formats if you need to have another monster to Special Summon from Rescue Cat for a Synchro play or even use two copies of this card with Rescue Rabbit for a Rank 3 Xyz Monster, even if there are better cards to Special Summon than this card.
Being one of the last remaining Old School non-Effect Fusion Monsters, Warrior of Tradition has made its way up in price over the past years. Being a great card to Special Summon from Ready Fusion, this Level 6 EARTH Warrior can assist Decks that need a higher Level monster for Synchro or Xyz Summons. Some of the Decks where this card could see some use happen to be X-Saber and the “Star” series of LIGHT and EARTH Warrior monsters. Even the new Hunting Scout cards that the TCG released in Doom of Dimension can use this card, and the Fusion Materials for Warrior of Tradition are EARTH Warrior monsters. Who knows what Konami has planned in the future with EARTH Fusion Monsters, but these pieces could be a great start for a new EARTH Warrior Deck Pile.
With the rise of Magnet Warriors into the meta, a couple of copies of Breath of Light have been bought from what’s left on the market. Being released as a Duelist League promo and later reprinted in the World Championship 2011 Card Pack, this card has never seen a reprint since. This card destroys all Rock monsters on the field, which is a solid counter to every Rock Deck, if they don’t set up a negate via Adamanacipator Risen – Dragite or Naturia Beast. Even with cards like Dark Hole, Raigeki, and Lightning Storm being legal at 3 each, this could come in handy in the future if multiple monster destruction cards are needed to break an opponent’s board.
For the last card on this week’s Market Watch, we will look at a historic card for the game in general: Mooyan Curry. This card alone doesn’t seem to do much, as it gives the player a choice of giving either player 200 LP, but Mooyan Curry has had an extremely limited release in both the TCG and the OCG. There are only two releases for both regions in the OCG’s Starter Box: Theatrical Release and the Starter Box and the TCG’s World Championship 2010 and 2011 Packs. This is because the card is based off of a Japanese curry restaurant franchise named Moyan Curry, which has several shops in East Shinjuku and Ikebukuro. This card served as a cross-promotion between itself and Yu-Gi-Oh! Those who happen to bring the card to their shop would probably have something good happen to them since the 10th anniversary of this card being created.
For this week in particular, it has been strange watching the older cards move due to new interest, players buying up anything they can, or even just something silly. Maybe one day, we can see reprints of a majority of these cards in different and newer rarities than what they already have. This weekend is another YCS in Cartagena, Columbia, and to all who are attending, I wish you all the best of luck. Personally, another win for Maliss would be great, showing their position in the meta as a tough deck to beat, but Pure Branded has been on my radar for a bit, and hopefully, it takes the crown this time. Though before YCS Columbus, Ohio, many players are hoping there will be a new Forbidden & Limited list released, as they want a shake-up for the game before another major event happens as we are heading into the Blazing Dominion format.
