No, hitting time won’t result in a double loss.
The TCG has stated that noticed changes to Round Time/End of Match procedures for Official Tournament Store Championships and Regional Qualifiers were posted in error.
The current English FAQ has been corrected.
The stated changes to Round Time/End of Match procedure are intended to apply only to the World Championship being held in Paris, France this year, and the event commentators will be discussing it more in detail.
However, they do note these changes are intended to become policy for all TCG events going forward at a later date after the World Championship.
Exact details have not being finalized.
From Ark:
As an editorial note, this ‘double loss’ Round Time/End of Match procedure would put the TCG more in line with current Official Card Game policy regarding Round Time/End of Match.

How much you want to bet this is a countermeasure for decks that take at least an hour to complete one turn with all the combos they do?
I don’t think you understand how much quicker matches are when both players are playing combo decks. Both players go through turn 1 interactions, the turn player ends on a half board, and then player 2 tries to break it. Then someone offers a handshake. I’ve been playing Lab a ton recently, and i can tell you set 5 pass (or any grind game strategy) leads to way longer games than more standard decks
I’m terrified for if these rules ever become official cuz I love playing Labrynth and my career of farming draws would be over
I’m with you Daruma, my ass loves playing less known decks to compensate for my lack of money, and those tend to make games longer since opps have to read, at nats with ghoti multiple times i ended up at time since people have to understand my cards.
Just add chess turn clocks!
That literally doesn’t work because Yugioh is an INTERACTIVE GAME. It’s literally impossible to use chess clocks for how priority works, using them for just as simple as a chainling 4 is a nightmare.
The reply above me, you do realize chess turn clocks for this would just be what master duel currently does😅, but less optimized. This is a completely realistic suggestion
Only that you would have to click it 5000 times in single game lmao who wants that mini game as well
Not very realistic. A 2,000+ person event would require over a thousand chess clocks. And that’s assuming they already know the exact number of people attending beforehand. More likely, they’d need to order a comedically large number of chess clocks to ensure they have enough for everyone, and if they do that they’ll wind up wasting a ton of money on chess clocks no one’s using.
Yu-Gi-Oh players really coming up with the most out-of-touch solutions they can think of.
People are still proposing chess clocks as a solution ?
@anon – you realized the actual difference between real life play and master duel? Chess clock system work in MD because it’s automated, you cannot automate it IRL. When priority and who’s currently on play can change 5-10 times during the same turn, it’s just not possible to follow this procesure. A lot of times who’s on play depends also on purely hidden information and what effects players can or cannot in answer to something.
Any person that think that chess clock is either someone who played yugioh only online, is trolling or is an idiot.
Since this is meant to be closer to ocg, does ocg have rules in place to discourage people forcing these double losses through slow play or whatever?
I’m all for dropping the “do burn damage to win in time” part of deckbuilding, but I don’t see this working out so easily without other rules in place.
I mean the thing in place to discourage forcing double losses at least in TCG is tiebreakers since losing to someone with a better record is better for you, so if someone forces a double loss it means their tiebreakers are worse.
they’re posted in error and only apply to worlds but are still intended to be for all future tcg events? so which is it Konami
They were posted in error and will only apply to Worlds for now.
However at some unspecified point in the future it is planned to make it standard for events.
They’re not contradictory statements.
dasdasds
I think these rules are great.
As read, life points won’t matter anymore. If I’ve won game one (but I took forever to play my deck), and we’re in game two – I can’t win by cheesing life points on you. We’ll both get the double loss anyway.
Love it.
