Fire away with Improved Dragon Link.

Strategic Summary:
Welcome back for another CDP, this time taking on the Borrel/Rokket themes with a bunch of the support they’ve received lately. First up, we have the Burst Protocol wave, which most notably introduced Rokket Loader, a way for them to access any Level 7 DARK Dragon monster, Borreload Fatalflare Dragon, which tutors any Rokket on Summon while also recovering a DARK Link from banishment, Rokket Detonator, a new Level 7 option that can summon a DARK Link from your S/T zone, and Borrelshroud Dragon, another LINK-5 for the archetype that allows it to negate a face-up card the opponent controls. Together, this wave provided more consistency and filled a few holes in the boss lineup, but it left a lot to be desired… so I decided to wait for the inevitable follow-on support, which in this case was Breechborrel Dragon (YGOrg Translation), a new LINK-2 that tutors any Borrel S/T on summon, then it has a Quick Effect to trigger your Rokket monsters while summoning a new one from deck. Again, this was amazing, but with LOCR on the horizon, I decided to wait yet again.
Boy did that pay off, as within the LOCR set, the Borrel/Rokket strategy received its best card to date – Rokket Barrage (YGOrg Translation). This Level 5 monster Special Summons itself by milling any non-Level 5 DARK Dragon, then whenever it is targeted by a Link Monster, it can destroy itself to summon other Rokket monsters from anywhere, 1 per location. With 4 potential summons off of one effect, this was a gamechanger, giving the deck a ton of materials. Within LOCR, the deck also received Borreload Liberator Dragon (YGOrg Translation), a new LINK-4 that steals control of an opponent’s monster during either Battle Phase, as well as summons itself back from the GY via Quick Effect, if your opponent does manage to get it off the field. These new tools were great in isolation, so now let’s talk about the other sub-engines at play in the build and how they all combine to make a fearsome Dragon Link deck!
I first turned to a Dragon Link staple engine, Black Metal Dragon [BMD] and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon [REDMD], as a single copy of BMD can get you a long way to starting your combos. Since you’ll get a free second Red-Eyes search off of BMD in that combo, it only made sense to also include Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon and Max Metalmorph, as well as a playset of Dragonic Warrior to maximize the likelihood of seeing BMD combos. Next, I turned to the Bystials and Chaos Dragons, as either engine in addition to Chaos Space ultimately leads to getting one of your Rokket monsters banished, to maximize Barrage of course. This also has the side benefit of letting me include Branded Regained for more draw power mid-combo. Then, to add a bit of extra help in the starter territory, I included the new Ilios the Black Sun Dragon (YGOrg Translation), a new Level 4 DARK Dragon that easily Special Summons itself from hand before preventing the opponent from targeting a selected Dragon Fusion/Synchro/Xyz/Link monster, which also has the benefit of preventing a player from responding to that effect’s activation. Throw all of this together, and just watch how it functions, flowing between engines and ultimately making big Dragon bosses with TONS of ATK power!
