New Morphtronic Fon, who dis?
Replays:
Strategic Summary:
Welcome back for a bright new profile, this time focused on the Morphtronic archetype and tons of dicerolling. The Morphtronic theme has always had Morphtronic Celfon, a Level 1 monster that rolls a die to excavate the top cards of your deck equal to the result, and then it can Special Summon a Morphtronic monster from among them. This introduced an element of luck to the theme, which only increased once Morphtronic Smartfon was released, which rolled to add any excavated Morphtronic card. Now there’s one important thing to note – these ‘Fons’ only had a soft once-per-turn effect, meaning if they were removed from the field then returned, they could try their luck again to give you advantage. Continuing with this precedent now comes the most broken diceroller of all, Morphtronic Telefon (YGOrg Translation), which rolls a die to gain LPx100 equal to the result before Special Summoning a Morphtronic monster from your GY with a Level less than or equal to the roll. In isolation, this seems like fun, but there is one more detail to note – Telefon will always be able to summon another copy of itself from the GY, since it is Level 1. This means that you can quickly combo from one Telefon to the next, getting as much link material as your heart could possibly desire… Which quite bluntly, is insane.
Beyond this new tuner, the archetype received a new starter in the form of Gadget Gamer (YGOrg Translation), which tutors a Level 1 Machine on Normal Summon and can be tributed to Special Summon a Morphtronic from the hand and a Gadget Hauler from the Deck. Again, this can set off your combos just fine. But where this theme really kicks it into overdrive is when you factor in the new Dimension Dice (YGOrg Translation) support from AC02. Dice Dungeon (YGOrg Translation) is a Field Spell whose entire role in this build is to tutor Dimension Dice on activation, so I’m not going to focus too much on that. Instead, Dimension Dice is a powerful card that tributes any monster to summon a monster that rolls a die with its effect from your deck. This means you can tribute a copy of Celfon to summon a Telefon. Or your Telefon to summon another copy of Telefon… and so much more. With no once-per-turn restriction on these cards either, you can very well end up making a chain of summons until you get to a potent endboard, sometimes even featuring Naturia Beast to lock your opponent out of Spells. In other words, in this Morphtronic Dimension, the dice will always be loaded in your favor.
