CDP: Metaphys Illusion Chimera, ft. UFOLight and Tao the Great Chanter

Welcome to today’s Causal Deck Profile, this time taking inspiration from one of Konami’s Deck Recipes, and this one features the Metaphys archetype in its return to my channel. The Metaphys theme consists of LIGHT Wyrm monsters that revolve around being banished, returning from being banished, and banishing more things… In other words, they’re just overall a pain to deal with. To banish your Metaphys monsters, Metaphys Ragnarok leads the way by banishing the top 3 cards of your deck when summoned, while Asymmetaphys can banish a Metaphys card from your hand to draw a new card. Why do you want to banish so many Metaphys cards? Well immediately, Metaphys Ascension tutors a Metaphys monster when banished; then, in a delayed manner, Metaphys Nephthys tutors a Metaphys card, Metaphys Daedalus banishes a Metaphys card, Metaphys Tyrant Dragon Special Summons a Metaphys from the hand, and Metaphys Decoy Dragon Special Summons itself, each during the next Standby Phase. Since all of these effects will be delayed a turn, you need to find ways to stall out the duel to give your Metaphys a chance to shine, and that’s where the Illusion side of this deck comes in.

I’ve covered the Illusion Chimera support suite quite a few times already, so I don’t want to spend too much time talking about them in this description. As for the new Illusion monsters, we gotta talk about UFOLight (YGOrg Translation), because it is such a funky card. During the End Phase, UFOLight lets you draw 1 card, then banish any number of cards from your hand. That’s right, this is the answer to a bunch of Metaphys cards accumulating in your hand that you couldn’t banish away with Aloof Lupine! UFOLight is also decently easy to tutor and summon via the Illusion Chimera support, but also if you factor in the GY effects of Berfomet the Phantom Beast Dark Ruler (YGOrg Translation) and Chimera the King of Phantom Beasts, you’ll definitely have ways to get it to your board. Or, just turn to Tao the Great Chanter (YGOrg Translation), which can Special Summon any other Illusion monster from your GY whenever it is sent to the GY. To close out this build, since I am running so many monsters that want to be Normal Summoned and minimal hand-effects, I also decided to run copies of Time-Tearing Morganite, as well as Prufinesse, the Tactical Trapper as even more ways to banish your Metaphys Ascension from the deck! Venture to the banished pile and back, with the Metaphys!
